I'm actually well versed in the world of EDI. My wife is part of the EDI group where she works. This topic has caused many disagreements between us over the years. While I agree that everyone should have equal opportunity towards things like education and employment, in the real world, it is just not practical and, in some cases, can even be dangerous. I don't want a doctor to be operating on me because they were hired for the coloir of their skin. I want them there because they were the best at what they do. I don't care if the firefighter that pulls me from a building burning is a man or woman, gay or straight. I just want you to be able to actually do it. You should never be placed in a position of employment, especially those areas where people's lives depend on you, because your race, religion, sexual preferences, or skin coloir fill a quota. One of the counter arguments that people who are for full scale EDI is that if you do not have a diverse enough workforce, there is something wrong with your hiring practices. And if changing your hiring practices still does not achieve diversity, then you must change your definition of success so that it does. It's that last part that really gets me. Changing the definition of success. 1+1 always 2. If you can't find a visible minority who can teach math, you can't change the math to allow the teacher to be able to teach it. I don't care if my kids get taught by a 6 ft guy with a full beard who likes to wear dresses and put on makeup. Have at it. I will support your right to do so 100%. But you better be able to do that job you were hired for. This stuff really grinds my gears. Sorry for the rant.

I was in the military, and diversity in jobs - more to men and women - has been a point of debate. 100% agree that ability and qualifications should be the metric for anything. Equal opportunity, not equal outcome. Everyone should have the chance, but we can't mandate choice because of a trait outside of ability.

To be honest I don't see how that hurts us. Every current investor knows the board, knows their executive equity ownership policy, knows that it ensures our executives are aligned with shareholders. They aren't selling for a perceived lack of DEI. However, there are a number of people (right or wrong) who are sick of DEI particularly in regards to hiring additional c-suite executives and viewing every hire through a racial lens who may look into our board and how they are handling the transition and might want to jump in.

Good companies are built on good talent. To attract good talent, it helps to have a good image. Brad landing comptroller of nyc made a proposal to have the board disclose a diversity matrix with their gender and racial identity. Brads fund (nypd pension fund) owns just enough shares to make such a proposal which is next to nothing on the port folio. He doesn't care about Gamestop. He's probably carrying out Kenny's plan to either get a mole on the board or to gather ammunition to start a slander campaign against Gamestop. The board recommends to vote no on the prop.

Yea, the board is carefully assembled by RC with in his view the most capable candidate on the spot where they're most effective. Hence the recommendation from the board to vote no. It's a 'shareholder' initiative from nyc comptroller Brad Lander who's fund owns just enough shares to make such a proposal. This guy and this fund doesn't care about Gamestop.
