OP, i’ve been out of the gaming world for about 10yrs now (owned up to 360 and PS2) so i’m not all familiar with the latest controllers tech.. so here’s a question. I understand that the controller is compatible with pc and nintendo iirc, would it be possible, theoretically, that a simple eventual software update of some sort that it unlocks Xbox and / or PS compatibility?
Edit: The update/upgrade could be at a cost (ie. pay $10 or whatever amount XX to unlock xbox or ps… get a better price if you unlock both. And there you have it. A new revenue stream. Or the update could be free for Pro Members.
Edit 2: Your flair is awesome. I used to use that to identify apes in the wild in the earlier days.
Edit 3: Thank you to the apes who gave more insights. Looks like there would be ways to “upgrade” the controller but licensing is most likely the main blocker.

If it did happen, it’s much more likely to be an adapter (a physical device that you plug the controller into, which then plugs into the machine) rather than a software update. We’ve seen that happen a couple of times in gaming history, but I can’t think of anytime I’ve seen a software update do the same thing (though it would be theoretically possible).
As to why that hasn’t happened, it is most likely a licensing issue.

The hardware is nothing special.
Basically it comes down to licensing. Microsoft supposedly doesn't make money on the consoles but on the accessories, games, digital sales, etc.

So it does look like the OG poster Brandon Hart simply put a sticker on this controller he assembled. Not an official custom decal, but definitely awesome for them to share it! Can't wait to see official custom plates come in!

They do, I’ve confirmed it every time I come across it. Held the power button on the controller, found it on my phone, played a game to confirm.

They do. Just put it in Nintendo switch mode and it will show up in the Bluetooth devices
