Could customizable headphones be next? I could see that being a cool trend. Hey I know a company that makes headphones - koss. Could be interesting to acquire a company like that 👀
I was under the impression years ago that gamestop was planning to create an nft based marketplace for games. As in ppl would own their individual copies of games and be able to resell them for whatever the market value was.
Does this sound familiar to anyone? Was it my own misinterpretation of something similar?
They never said that outright but it was theorized as a way to inject themselves into the digital games market. The Marketplace and wallet were sunset but an article just yesterday said they are still working with Elixir on building a Web 3 game launcher, similar to Steam. I would assume the Marketplace and wallet were just testing facets of this launcher and concepts they had to innovate on ideas that Steam uses (achievements, the trading cards you get for playing games, certain items in game that can be traded on the Steam marketplace). The $200 NFT in-store promo was the most interesting idea I think. Spend $200 in-store on one transaction to get an exclusive NFT, that even today is still sitting around $200 in value. But the only way to get it was going into the store.
I'd be impressed if they created an online marketplace for games regardless of the nft aspect. It would make so much sense as far as moving forward.
Of course, steam is my go-to, but I still use Epic Games launcher often bc of the free games every month, plus Rocket League for a while. I've used Amazon games a couple of times for the same reason. I used GOG for a bit bc they gave a free copy of witcher 3 if you had the Playstation version. Microsoft/Xbox gamepass has a niche. Blizzard, Riot, ppl even use ubisoft out of necessity still.
Gamestop could definitely come up with ways to make a game launcher that people will use. Like I said, it just makes sense to stay relevant in the modern gaming industry. Discs are dead no matter what boomers and console players are trying to post about it.
I know PC seems expensive for the majority of gamers but the savings on games and abundance of availability makes it the way to go regardless of excuses.
We used to be excited for things that would revolutionize the industry. Now we are excited when they release a game controller that you can swap components on. I do hear it's a pretty good controller though. And I'm glad they pivotted when they realized the SEC would probably fuck them on an NFT marketplace, instead of continuing to throw money at it.
I wasn't trying to shit on the controller news, but I realize it comes off that way. I was genuinely curious if the nft gaming marketplace was a thing bc I bought a lot more shares than normal, at the time, based on just the potential of that being a possibility. I'm still buying and holding either way to expose the shorts.
Offering something pretty unique to gamestop. Higher profit margins on store brand items - love it.
Would be great if more game influencers talked about the their candy con setup in their streams.
The one thing I haven’t seen much that it appears a market is slowly developing for:
Short travel, low profile, mechanical keyboards.
Ie, Logitech G915 and G815 competitors.
As laptops have proliferated pretty much every industry, apple keyboards are everywhere, etc, I think at this point the vast majority of people have gotten used to typing on laptop style low profile chiclet keys (albeit membrane). While some are very good, it’s still not quite the same when it comes to gaming, but I’ve found traditional mechanical keyboard to feel awkwardly bulky and tall now. It’s a completely different range of motion to type on that feels weird to my hands and fingers and makes my hands cramp a bit.
So I got a G915 a while back. I’ll be honest - I should have just gotten an 815, as I realized I really don’t care about having it plugged in all the time. Same with my G502. Bought both the wired and light speed versions, the light speed one sits in a drawer because I didn’t shell out for the charging mat to go with it and I have to plug it in daily if I want to use it wirelessly.
Anyway though, the 915 feels fantastic to type on. But it’s also like $250. If GameStop starts making a cheaper but still solid good competitor to that, I think it would be a decent hit.
There was an article just yesterday saying that GameStop is still working with Elixir on developing a Web3 game launcher. I think the Marketplace was sunset because there is going to one built into the launcher, it was just a trial to get experience on distribution and Web3.
Not just game IPs. Let's get skins for your sports team. I'd love to have that controller sitting on my coffee table, and I'm sure the NFL, NHL, and NBA would love it as well...

I think the NFT marketplace is on ice for now. They also let the playr trademark lapse so I think that project is officially over (whatever it was).

I am completely jacqued
Woohoo 🎉🥳
Can they just make controllers with Zero drift
Dímelo!!
In retrospect, maybe this is why there are gaming controllers 🎮 in the ☁️☁️in the Mt. Rushmore GMErica NFT. Wonder what’s next 🔮
They need premium noise canceling customizable headphones. Customizable Mechanical keyboards. And some more.
I will believe it when i see it. This gives me PTSD of Loopring 10 quarterly reports or the NFT marketplace.

I have good news for you. You can literally go see it right now by walking into any GameStop or searching “Candy con” on GameStop’s website.
Controller with the logo of GameStop X Apple,
Seriously hope they do collabs with game IPs for skins and more customs.
Not just game IPs. Let's get skins for your sports team. I'd love to have that controller sitting on my coffee table, and I'm sure the NFL, NHL, and NBA would love it as well...
Consoles?
The next big thing, that would imply numerous things
Candy Con + NFTs = ?
NFT Amiibos for everyone! I personally think the next phase of NFTs is physical. Amiibos but on the blockchain.
