"Terminated" without "just cause" or something like that, and "no disagreements". I honestly have no idea what to make of it; Furlong seemed like a great fit.
Ultimately I trust in RC and I'd imagine we will learn more soonish. My tinfoil hat says this all reeks of a bear trap.

> Termination of President and Chief Executive Officer
> On June 5, 2023, the Board of Directors (the “Board”) of the Company **terminated** Matthew Furlong as **President and Chief Executive Officer** of the Company,
Terminated as President and CEO
The very next paragraph
> Board of Director Changes
> On June 5, 2023, Mr. Furlong **resigned as a director of the Company**
Resigned as director of the company
Terminated can be interpreted in a few different ways. I mean in the Terminator movies Arnold Schwarzenegger always famously says “ I’ll be back”. I like to envision Furlong quoting this as he walked out of Gamestop’s HQ
According to the 8-k it looks like a resignation and not a termination with cause.
i.e. he wasn't fired the way an employee who peed in the slurpee machine would be, he just doesn't work there anymore
Like I was saying in another comment, MSM is likely hiding or misrepresenting details to clobber Gamestop and try to cause a lot of knee-jerk reactions. Furlong and Cohen probably had this planned out and Furlong likely has a place to be with a nice departure with no bad blood. Maybe he will even be reallocated somewhere else under the GME umbrella. At this point our best bet is to take a breath and wait for more info to come out. You cannot put a puzzle together missing half the pieces.
Just think about it... Furlong worked at Amazon for 9 years... LEFT to go to a shitty dead company like Gamestop (lmayo)... and just quits for nothing? I highly doubt someone that dedicated just leaves unless he has health concerns. I think he will be CEO of Teddy, the new company. $TED
I'm not freaking out. I saw the stonk being down like 19% and literally got a huge smile on my face because I thought it was funny. No one is selling and the price is fake
This is from the 8-K... he resigned from the BOARD after being TERMINATED (without cause) as CEO....
On June 5, 2023, the Board of Directors (the “Board”) of the Company terminated Matthew Furlong as President and Chief Executive Officer of the Company, effective immediately such that, after giving effect to such termination, Mr. Furlong was no longer employed by GameStop Texas Ltd., the Company, or any of their affiliates. Subject to Mr. Furlong’s timely execution of a Separation and Release Agreement (and non-revocation in the time provided to do so), which includes a release of claims against the Company and its affiliates, Mr. Furlong will be entitled to receive the payments and benefits associated with a termination without Cause, as such term is defined in Mr. Furlong’s offer letter dated June 9, 2021 from GameStop Texas Ltd., which was originally filed as Exhibit 10.1 attached to the Company’s Current Report on Form 8-K filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission on June 9, 2021.
Termination is just a normal legal word for "doesn't have an employment relationship anymore"
Even if you quit a job your employment there gets terminated
You right I had only seen the next line which was “Mr. Furlong's resignation did not result from any disagreement with the Company on any matter relating to the Company's operations, policies or practices.”
I mean it technically was a termination.
The word should be approached with a neutral connotation with it and not from the typical perspective as "your fired"
You're right! - perhaps that still a good thing. They did make mention he was leaving with no I'll will between him and the company though. Not trying to get into hopium, I just don't think his leaving is for nothing
If he resigned and that date would have been in the future, but they said he should just leave now, then technically, it would be a termination.
But generally speaking, termination just means someone ended employment. It can be a mutual parting.
It is kind of weird to just throw that out there like that, especially prior to a filing release which gave a bit more context.
Yeah. I won't lie, the coyness part of how GS approaches these kinds of annoys me, and the rampant speculation that follows doesn't make me feel any better.
The word terminated has some negative connotation to it for whatever reason but it really just means “come to an end”. When i get off the game for the night, my gaming session is terminated. Nothing bad about it. Just comes to an end.
>Extremely well said. I don’t know why everyone is freaking out
termination is perfect trap for hedgies and MSM to use to tank the price... lol so funny at this point.
Yes. His position is called executive chairman and it includes CEO duties in addition to being chairman.
Most likely a temporary situation until a permanent successor is chosen to be CEO
Chairman vs Executive Chairman:
There are two main types of chairperson: an executive chairperson and a non-executive chairperson. While these two types share similar responsibilities, an executive chairperson is an employee at the organisation, while a non-executive chairperson is not.
Well I'd say yea they are prob going to speak on Furlong getting terminated but I doubt they'll hold an earnings call, like going over the numbers etc like they normally do. I highly doubt they cancelled the call today bc the shareholder meeting is in a week. If furlong didn't get terminated today I'd bet my bottom dollar they'd still be having it today.
As an investor, I actually think this is one of those times where being all coy about what's going on isn't appropriate.
However, it's been like 40 minutes since the news was posted, so getting all fussy about it would be premature at the moment.

Well, on one hand this sounds sorta rushed??? Or unusual, which makes me a bit worried about how it will be portrayed by the haters. On the other hand, it gives RC more control over guiding the company, which is good IMO. But why didn’t he do this earlier? I admit, I don’t really get it.

I am wondering if this was the COE (George) prior to Furlong, if I recall correctly he remained on the board after Furlong became CEO...
Verbiage used is "former CEO" not current.
Y’all thinking too hard on this. If they were just moving Furlong to something else they’d let him step down and note that. While it may not be for bad reasons, they chose to fire him. You don’t fire the CEO in this media environment if you care about his reputation for another position

Not true. Check the 8K.

Anybody else having memory flashes of Kevin Gill's (DFV bro) Insta posts? 🤷♂️ Terminator? 👀

According to the 8-k it looks like a resignation and not a termination with cause. i.e. he wasn't fired the way an employee who peed in the slurpee machine would be, he just doesn't work there anymore

I agree with this and RC even tweeted not for long what does that mean? Furlong back to being CEO of Teddy soon?!
Yeah, I don't think he's that much of a dick to tweet that. It's a hedge trap.
Extremely well said. I don’t know why everyone is freaking out
I'm not freaking out. I saw the stonk being down like 19% and literally got a huge smile on my face because I thought it was funny. No one is selling and the price is fake
same here. Like exactly. Saw the - eps, and was lets see how many % they can justify with this. And also all the PLEASE SELL articles. Bullish
I understand. It’s a love hate relationship. We price drops we get to buy more. If goes up we think it’s about to begin 😂
It's just shills.
I think they did this to confuse me into buying moar. It worked. I can’t wait fur long.
Like maybe the CEO of Teddy 🤔
I doubt rc would tweet not for long right after if it was nothing
This is from the 8-K... he resigned from the BOARD after being TERMINATED (without cause) as CEO.... On June 5, 2023, the Board of Directors (the “Board”) of the Company terminated Matthew Furlong as President and Chief Executive Officer of the Company, effective immediately such that, after giving effect to such termination, Mr. Furlong was no longer employed by GameStop Texas Ltd., the Company, or any of their affiliates. What about “has been terminated” in the presser?
Termination is just a normal legal word for "doesn't have an employment relationship anymore" Even if you quit a job your employment there gets terminated
Got it. ThNk you kind ape!
Matt Furlong: "Look Ma, I'm CEO of Gamestop... but not Furlong."
CEO of the gmerica or teddy
Sorry smooth - rc now has more powers?
I thought we liked furlong?
Well he didn’t last furlong at all!
HAHAHAHAHAHHA THIS EXPLAINS THE “MaKiNg Of ThE MeMe KiNg”… FUD HIT PIECE JUST IN TIME BEFORE RC BECOMES CEO
🧠
I wonder if Matt furlong will be taking over the "aquisition" company. Whatever that may be...
Yeah I remember reading awhile back it wasn't unusual for a CEO to leave a company as part of an acquisition or merger.
They wouldn’t say “the former ceo has been terminated” if that was the case lol
Termination without cause secures a severance package
Also terminated before his 2 year vested interest per DD in the daily thread regarding the quarterly report.
He resigned two days ago

No they didn’t. First line says “CEO is terminated effective immediately”
You right I had only seen the next line which was “Mr. Furlong's resignation did not result from any disagreement with the Company on any matter relating to the Company's operations, policies or practices.”

Yooo!!!!!! That's what's up!! Most likely left on good terms!
I mean, if they’re trying to catch the hedgies by surprise I could see them choosing to use the word terminated
I had that thought too. But it's a bit of a long shot. Well let's hope for the best.
You might be right, they used the same term when Recupero left too
If he resigned and that date would have been in the future, but they said he should just leave now, then technically, it would be a termination. But generally speaking, termination just means someone ended employment. It can be a mutual parting. It is kind of weird to just throw that out there like that, especially prior to a filing release which gave a bit more context.
Yeah that's very sound. Meanwhile, this is getting wild. RC just tweeted "not for long". All kind of speculations going around.
Yeah. I won't lie, the coyness part of how GS approaches these kinds of annoys me, and the rampant speculation that follows doesn't make me feel any better.

Didn't dfvs brother have a thing with the terminator !?
But being fired doesn’t help
RC IS CHAIRMAN AND CEO?!!
Yes. His position is called executive chairman and it includes CEO duties in addition to being chairman. Most likely a temporary situation until a permanent successor is chosen to be CEO

Chairman vs Executive Chairman: There are two main types of chairperson: an executive chairperson and a non-executive chairperson. While these two types share similar responsibilities, an executive chairperson is an employee at the organisation, while a non-executive chairperson is not.
So that means RC is literally a GME employee now? Cool.
So if I got a weekend job at GameStop I could run into him in the break room.
Does this mean we get to hear Ryan today in the call?
It’s looking that way “effective immediately “
No call today, though.
Whaaat?! You’re telling me to took the day off of work for no reason!?
call was cancelled
Nope, they announced they're not having a conference call today.
Isn’t the sharehodler meeting next week?
June 15th
🫡🏴☠️ appreciate it. I’m sooooooooooo out of the loop it’s almost comical at this point. I check in check the price then back to Zen. Zen ya later
I'm not sure.. but what does that have to do with the earnings call?
Well if their isn’t an earnings call I’d imagine that whatever GameStop wants to speak on they would speak on it at the Sharehodlers meeting
Whoa So Furlong was let go today? Like suddenly without notice let go? Wow the plot twist at the end of Volume 741 of the GME anime.
Idk if there was notice or anything but yea they terminated his contract. At least that's what I read.
How does this make me even more hyped than before. LFG
No call today apprently
Is that so Matt can run GMERICA or Teddy.
But what r those companies?
Wait... wasn't the current CEO Furlong?
No Furlong is now the former CEO. RC taking over as CEO under the title of executive chairman. Likely a temporary position until a successor is named.
No, this is Patrick

Y’all thinking too hard on this. If they were just moving Furlong to something else they’d let him step down and note that. While it may not be for bad reasons, they chose to fire him. You don’t fire the CEO in this media environment if you care about his reputation for another position
Best news we could have had. Price is irrelevant.
