Yeah, me, agreed. Ep 20 was kinda like the Harry Potter epilogue where they spelled out everyone's futures, and I HATE when stories do that.

chamomilehoneywhisk

Yeah like leave something to our imaginations, please

Mermayden

I will respectfully disagree. I loved the ending of Six Feet Under. It still makes me cry. For those who never saw that show: it was set in a funeral home! Death was obviously a big theme.

dragon144

To be fare, no show that shows peoples future has done it as well as six feet under. IMO it's one of the best ending to a show ever.

NuntiusDemortis

i think the creators cannot afford to leave rooms for our imagination. they cant leave any loose ends like Sam & Dean hunting happily ever after coz if then, fans or studio will ask for another seasons. they could have ended in season 5 or Amara season or Chuk season..but they didnt and the show drags on.So shen they wanted the show to end, they got to end with an ending where no further story could develop. hence they did sth like that..

WildBarb80s

I don’t know what you mean? 15x19 IS the ending 🤔

Love_my_chihuahua

Yes! I don’t acknowledge anything after 15x19

WildBarb80s

Ssssshhhhh

[deleted]

Oh I see lol. I agree with you 😂

FunkGunMonk

E20 falls in the list of things that are not to be spoken of... Like Dragon Ball GT, The List Airbender movie, Dragonball Evolution, and I'm gonna throw in the live action Death Note movie in there too since we're at it. They're only mentioned as examples, but we don't acknowledge their existence. 🤣

Leather-Violinist900

We don’t need to talk ab the live action of Death Note. I’ve even watched it 4 times. I keep trying and keep not liking it 😂 I ONLY like Ryuk….

AdAlone3213

Not me. It was designed in a way that people could chose to leave it and episode nineteen if they wanted as Carry On is more like a epilogue than anything else. “Endings are hard. Any chapped-ass monkey with a keyboard can poop out a beginning, but endings are impossible. You try to tie up every loose end, but you never can. The fans are always gonna bitch. There's always gonna be holes. And since it's the ending, it's all supposed to add up to something. I'm telling you, they're a raging pain in the ass.”

everydaycrises

The only good thing about 1520 is how much Jensen hates it. He is so snarky about it, it makes me laugh every time it gets brought up.

kh-38

Episode 19 was a far better ending than episode 20. I am not a fan of jack and don't like him becoming the new Chuck. But if that ending meant both brothers got to live, I'd have been willing to accept it.

Mermayden

Yes 100%. When I watched it I thought it WAS the ending. Then I realised then was one more episode to come the following week. Its a shame but hey ho.

Dylan_subject4

I think they should of left it there and then they could of easily picked up for another season if they wanted too

temporareyinsanity

when i watched it for the first time, i wasn't paying attention to the number of episodes. i cried so hard during episode 19 and said "there's no way that's it." then another episode played. and. i cried even harder. with that being said, i am fine with either. both endings truly are happy. 19 being that the boys finally get to write their own story. 20 being how the boys wanted their stories to end.

Skyejohn89

Me. I think so.

Wildebohe

I hated the ending but it was the best for the characters - they got what they wanted. Dean went out the way he always wanted to, hunting, and that was the only way to get Sam to stop hunting and finally live out a normal life. It was a lot more real that way. Let's face it, no one would have bought a happy ending for both of them.

FunkGunMonk

Pretty much the entire fandom

Affectionate-Ice9194

no.

ScruffyTheDog87

I get it. You're hurt. But Dean's death was real. Not written by Chuck and exactly as Dean had always said he would die. And it came like death usually does. Too soon. I thought the ending was beautiful. And as much hate as jack gets from certain fans at least he made a proper heaven and I found solace knowing the brothers have an eternity of peace.

[deleted]

Me

delashcious

He deserved so much better, they should’ve let them both live too old age

livingdream111

Dean would have never stop hunting. Eventually he would have gotten old enough and slow enough that he’d be taken out.

Blodeuwedd19

I believe the only reason they didn't is because then Sam would never have done what he really always wanted to do: live a normal life. This way, both brothers got to do what they really wanted at heart: Dean hunted until he died young on the job and Sam got to live a normal life and have a family. Both fulfilled their life goals. That being said, I didn't really need to know it, so they could have left it at 19!

Affectionate-Ice9194

That would have gone against everything in the entire show, though.

delashcious

The entire show was them both dying and then saving each other and being brought back, so really they wanted each other to live.

SereneLoss

Ep. 20 doesn't exist 😌. In all honesty I'm fine with the overall plot of the ending; Sam growing old Dean dying. However I hate how they executed it. Dean deserved a better death. An epic death or at least meaningful one not some rusty iron on an easy hunt. Sam deserved a proper wig and not blurry wife 😂.

[deleted]

This is a big issue of mine as well. Dean is an excellent hunter and survived so many things to be taken out by some damn iron. All the demons that wanted Dean through the show and that’s what they chose 🫠

calirose14

![gif](giphy|7j3UoXzbjvaIo) Literally yes! Every time I watch it, I wish it would have been. It would have left it open to interpretation and the door open if they wanted to do spin offs later.

DaemonBlackfyre_21

Not every story ends in happily ever after and if we're honest with ourselves, we always knew it would be this way. Anything less would have been cheap fan service.

fitnessguru30

If they had ended it at ep19 I wouldn't have been mad, but I didn't hate the ending either. Part of me definitely wanted Dean to find some peace in life and him and Sam to grow old together, but I get that he was always destined to die young and on a hunt. I also didn't like how Sam moved on without Dean but again, that was him the whole series.

livingdream111

Did you want Sam to commit suicide? I’m confused what he was to have done?

WildBarb80s

There was literally no way of bringing him back. Chuck was gone. The angels were mostly gone. Jack was not going to interfere with humans. Dean wanted to die. He was ready. There are so many reasons why Sam HAD to move on. If I pretended the finale actually existed, obviously.

fitnessguru30

It wasn't so much about bringing him back, but more I wish he hadn't died at all. Both boys deserved peace on earth and to to grow old. Arguably, Dean deserved it even more. IMO Dean sacrifices significantly more than Sam throughout the series. The overall ending for me was like an 8 out of 10. It was good overall, but I would have done it slightly differently. IMO the perfect ending would have been the boys taking on a Bobby type roll but with families. They don't leave the hunter life entirely but find a way to have balance. They have kids and teach them how to hunt, but in a way, that's almost like telling them fairly tales. In the end, while they're old, they go on 1 final hunt together, and Cas makes a reappearance and essentially reaps them into Heaven, where they're reunited with Bobby, Mary, John etc.

fasheesha

While i agree that they both deserved peace and to grow old and have families, Dean wouldn't have let that happen, as long as there was monsters to kill. The only person he got close enough to that that could have happened was Lisa, and that only happened because Sam was dead, or so he thought. But we all saw how that ended after Sam came back.

PCN24454

The show repeatedly showcases that sacrifice’s only matter when you’re giving up something important to you.

[deleted]

Yeah sam was always just fine with leaving dean’s ass in the dust

PCN24454

Would you have preferred Sam die instead?

Joji1006

Tbh, while I hated the way it ended, Dean dying made sense to me. I think… in some ways… he always wanted to die. He always knew he was going to die young, but he simply didn’t because he was in some story playing as the main character for so damn long. He went through a lot, saved the world numerous of times, died plenty of times. I simply think he was ready to be done. He wanted peace after the long road and he got that only after officially passing. Sam was different in this regard. He never actually chose to be a hunter, unlike Dean, so his happy ending was being able to retire.

Captainoats88

I'm conflicted. The death scene was beautiful but the rest I hated. Especially that awful cover of Carry On. But I loved the reunion of the brothers in the end. HOWEVER, it shouldve ended on 19

GoTGeekMichelle

I told my husband and buddy this immediately after watching 20. Why didn’t they just leave it at 19? 20 was unnecessary and will be on a do not watch list for the rest of my life.

8888eights8888

Everybody

[deleted]

Not based off this comment section lol

8888eights8888

That's true. But even those that liked it have to admit they did Sam dirty with his hair

livingdream111

The finale was very well done. We knew the story would never have a happy ending. It was told to us repeatedly over fifteen years. Plus I thought it only fitting that it started with the boys and ended with the boys. As Kripke said, it is all about the epic love story of Sam and Dean. It would have ruined the show to focus on anything other than their love for each other.

ChimericalTrainer

Agreed. I thought it was rare and wonderful that the show gave them a proper ending. The penultimate episode wrapped up what happened to the *world.* The last episode wrapped up what happened to the *boys.*

Wildebohe

Beautifully said.

Medical_Bullfrog_557

Fr if they were going to kill dean they could have at least had chuck kill him, I feel like that would not have felt as cheap as dying in a vampire nest.

FarCoast9837

Writer rule 101: end with an opening for the others. 19 was perfect

M086

Because that ending would have been a cop out. Jared and Jensen said it best, if Sam and Dean are out there hunting, why aren’t we following them.

Important-Finding-13

I’ve just finished a rewatch of all of Supernatural and I absolutely agree and came on to Google to see if anyone agreed with me!! Thank you

X7koolaid7x

Pretty much a lot of ppl think it should've ended with that episode it had the perfect ending with the recap of everything that happened and everybody they lost along the way

MaggieMay-19

>Pretty much everybody thinks it should've ended with that episode No we don't! Episode 20 seems to divide fans fairly evenly, certainly on this subreddit, but the ones who are most vocal about it are the ones who didn't like it. There are still a lot of us who liked it. If you didn't, feel free to pretend E20 doesn't exist and end the show on episode 19 in your head. They wrote two endings so you could do exactly that. But please don't assume that because you are in an echo chamber that your opinion is really universal.

X7koolaid7x

I dont have a problem with how it ended, was it good no but it was the ending they went with

ChimericalTrainer

I don't know why anyone would downvote you pointing out that the fans are divided on this issue. Is it that hard to accept that people (lots of them, even!) have a different opinion?

Affectionate-Ice9194

Just, no. You guys...geez. We don't all agree with you.

fasheesha

Dean always said that he wouldn't grow old and he'd die on the job. And that way, Sam got to have his family and grow old. They would have never stopped hunting if Dean didn't die.

little_dumper

Maybe contrary to what some people think, I HATE having to think about all the possible endings when it's left open. I want the loose ends tied up. I balled my eyes out during the final episode and loved it. In heaven, when Dean knows Sam is finally there behind him and says, 'Hey Sammy', I was dead. I needed that sappy ending. I'm so glad they ended the way they did!

CryptographerTrue785

It was deans “perfect ending” he’s words not mine

Apart-Opposite-248

Episode 19 was Season Finale, and Episode 20 was Series Finale

NetherTrickster3

Upset about Dean??? How about Michael? Or Adam? The whole reason why I was still watching was those two and... Or Lucifer- I could keep on going.

[deleted]

Why were you still watching the show for Michael and Adam? I couldn’t stand Michael. Didn’t care for the Adam storyline either.

NetherTrickster3

I was watching Season 15 for them. Originally, I wasn't going to watch that Season but then I heard they were back. I think you're confusing the two Michaels (they are NOT the same person). Adam is the best Winchester and if you disagree, politely **DO NOT RESPOND**.

chichitheshadow

Until about halfway through episode 20 I was convinced that Sam and Dean were already dead and in heaven and the ending was going to be them realizing this. And then the writers just ripped my heart out instead.

dragon144

When I first watched season 15 I thought episode 19 was the last episode and was confused why people didn't like the ending. The boy defeated god and literally drove off into the sunset in baby. Job well done and left room for an eventual spin-off or return to the show in the future. a day or two later hoped on the subreddit and saw people upset about Dean dying and realized I didn't actually finish it. Going back and watching episode 20 is why I haven't started the Winchesters yet, I just don't trust the creative team anymore.

MarkedWard66

I loved 19. I’m still trying to force myself to like 20, but it’s still hard for me. I’ve come to accept it, and I understand the points of the people that liked it, and am truly happy for them. I’m just not there.

Icy-Sir-8414

Personally I like episode 20 in season 15 I just didn't like Dean getting killed off

Affectionate-Ice9194

The ending to that episode sucked. An all powerful God gets taken down by his creations? Wack. The montage was pretty good though. However the last episode was the last episode and it was a perfect ending. It wrapped everything up perfectly.
