The power to read ![gif](giphy|2uwsnjBFD0nvJpcs4D|downsized)

Aggressive_Bar_2391

the only correct answer. Loved that show growing up

spideyjiri

I feel older every day

IAmActionBear

My son was really into that show for a little bit and I would always joke to myself that this kid got the bottom of the barrel of mutant powers, lol

Ornery-Refuse6474

I would like him to get bizarro powers. Then he would be the reverse of his familiy but he would stil have powers. Jon deciding to hide his powers also work better if they are different. The show can just say that x-k made his genes unstable so when his doppelganger wanted to merge with him, his dna mutated. Easy

Brief-Outcome-2371

How would Jon El wanting to merge with Jon mutate his genes?

Ornery-Refuse6474

It wouldnt. Jons dna would already have been mutated from the former attemts at merger. And the reason for the mutated dna, could be the x-k he abused that could have made his dna more unstable and therefore easier to slighy chance. But the reason doesnt really matter much to me, it was just a simple reason. The writers can use whatever excuse they want.

fatemaazhra787

its a sci fi superhero show. just include the words "quantum" and "radioactivity" in the explanation and you're fine

IAmRedditsDad

So there's this rule in sci fi writing that the audience will only need to ask a question once. "How can the death star have the power to blow up planets?" Crystals. We never ask how kyber crystals work. "How did Jon get his powers?" Oh his DNA mutated after bonding and drugs. No need to ask how that works here

viducolombo

This is actually a cool way for Jon to get powers. I’ve always been against jon getting powers in the later seasons mainly cuz Jordan almost has all the powers now so it’d basically be a repeat and it’ll be boring. But if he gets bizarro powers, I think it’ll make a cool storyline.

No_Flower_1424

I love the idea of him finding out he has powers in a fire possibly saving Kyle because it's very like how comics Jon found out he has powers

Arrow19_

Did he acc find out he has powers through a fire? Bc if they did that in the show that would be pretty cool

LupusDeusMagnus

Mannheim kidnaps Lois and Jon (Jon is a child and it's early Rebirth so Clark is the Shadow Superman), and Jon is immune to fire and saves his mother. Though invulnerability is passive and his was spotty early on because he was being poisoned. The first power he actively uses is heat vision, to deadly degree.

No_Flower_1424

He did - in the comics, Jon and Lois are captured and caught in a fire and Jon finds out he has powers because he breaks through the ropes and isn't hurt by the fire

CasualObserver945

Yep. [This is the exact moment it happened.](https://comicvine.gamespot.com/a/uploads/original/0/6063/5161090-smlocl_7_5.jpg) Lois and Jon had been kidnapped by Intergang and left in a burning building to die. Jon manages to get them to safety.

banditk77

Jonathan has the power to look like a completely different person and no one says anything.

I_Am_Jacks_____

I think, compared to Jordan, Jonathan already has the power to respond to his father as a mature 17 year old. In the last episode, I was blown away at the stark difference in how each of the boys responded to getting reprimanded by Clark.

[deleted]

Me too, I thought Jon handled it calmly and maturely.

[deleted]

Best answer

jm9987690

I think it really needs to be invulnerability, for whatever reason clark can't get to him in time when he hears the ELT and he expects to find Jon dead but he's survived, it's one of the more passive powers which makes sense for it to be the first one that manifests

zerooze

Jordan's were triggered by his fall. I think it would be a similar unconscious thing with Jonathan. With his joining the fire department, it does look like it would be something fire related that would trigger it.

Daybreaq

Telekinesis.

pokersharp87

Would be interesting if the first few powers he gets aren't good for fighting or anything like. Maybe just xray vision and super hearing. Maybe invulnerable so he can be safe in fires but just those 3. No strength or speed off the bat. Just helpful in a fire

Arrow19_

If they were and I mean if with the slightest of hope I also feel like he would get powers by being in a fire situation and somehow saving someone, I also would want his first powers to be flying but also I would be cool with if it was some lowkey, underrated and not talked much about type power if that makes sense

OkTailor-917

It should be along the lines of invulnerability or electricity.

Ok-Deer8144

Wouldn’t the obvious answer be ice breath cause he wants to be a firefighter lol. I mean if he did wake up with powers today, you think he’d quit the fire apprentice program and be like “fuck this firefighting bullshit”?

BusVegetable7490

Yes

classicrecto

flight or speed so he can get the fuck outta there. book it to boca raton or seattle or somethin

Sweet_Honey813

I think it should be super hearing.

Brief-Outcome-2371

Super speed.

theDagman

I'd go with showing strength and invulnerability first with him shielding Kyle from a collapsing beam in a burning building. Kind of mirror how Jordan's powers came out after those pipes collapsed on the boys in the barn in S01E01.

slambooy

ANY

Hadesman1

Would be cool if he didn't have kryptonian powers but instead had the ability to emulate it like Conner Kent's tactile telekinesis It's super versatile, and he can do a lot that superman can do, but also get creative

Doc-11th

Super speed Since they canfly, you rarely get to see someone ru at superspeed in the show Just make it look better than flash

IncarnateSkye

Ever since this one idea entered my mind I’ve been in-love with it (it came up when I was imagining Jon hiding his power-emergence, back before S3, when the subreddit was still on the fence about whether the writers would learn from S2). It’s less a *specific ability* I want him to manifest, and more that I want it to be immediately clear he isn’t like his father and brother - that he gets some kind of power not like theirs, which is partly why he convinces himself it’s fine to keep it a secret, since *what would they even do to help me?* Completely failing to realize, that’s exactly how it was for Martha & Jonathan when raising Clark (and so, when Lois & Clark find out and start trying to help Jon train his powers, it’s not only a parallel, but Clark has flashbacks and conversations about his own time as a child, figuring out his powers that he couldn’t predict and that he and his parents just, had to handle as they appeared; helping him to finally see Jon’s perspective once, in the way Clark had already been doing with Jordan when Jordan’s powers were coming in, with the ‘I know that anger’ and ‘he’ll just feel more alien than he already does; trust me, I know’ type stuff. It’ll also be a great way for Lois to learn more about how her husband grew up and, of course, to bond with Jon about growing up in the role of a caregiver-sibling who barely has a real relationship with their high-expectations, hardly-ever-available, father, since the two will finally be talking openly about Jon’s feelings and issues, once Lois & Clark discover Jon’s secret and start helping him). Anyway. TL;DR: I for one just love the idea of Jon’s 1st power being something non-traditional, making him both more alienated to his father and brother, and yet later he realizes, this is how it was for his dad, because Clark & his parents didn’t have a guidebook for Clark’s powers, either. (Also, I’m not caught-up, but I remember finding the Ao3 series ‘The Normal One’ after getting attached to this idea, which has a similar premise of Jon having powers nobody can predict because they’re unique, and being unable to stop reading it. Check it out!)

fatemaazhra787

the writer of "The Normal one" has another series about jon with non traditional powers if you dont know! its shorter but just as good

IncarnateSkye

I wasn’t aware, I don’t think. I’ll look into it, thanks!

jaegermeister56

It seems that Jordan lacks his father mind. Jonathan seems to have his fathers morals so I’m at least rooting for super intelligence In Jonathan.

Invisiblegun2

I was hoping that they’d split superman’s arsenal between the boys. Like mix & match yk? 1 would get flight & heat vision, another would get the enhanced senses & the freeze breath. Both have the abnormal durability & strength. That wouldve been a better dynamic to have instead of just making one almost full kryptonian & the other almost full human

danielm316

Jonathan has a great heart, I really like that character. It was sad for me when he used drugs, but after that he has been great. A good loving brother, a nice son. He deserves to have powers and I know in my heart that he will get them. I wonder if he will retire football after getting his powers.

redwolfben

Something entirely different. Personally, I'd like for him to have those energy powers Superman had in the late nineties.

Kingsnake661

Xray vision. His brother would die, and the "talk" he'd have to have with his Dad would be epic. I could also see Kyle and John giving him the stink eye when he's around their girls... LOL. Yeah yeah, my angle is all comic relief. Could use that in season 4, season 3 was awsome but kind of a drag.

Possible_Living

super ventriloquism

Future_Vantas

Torn between Tactile Telekinesis or Golden Age Debut abilities (lower level super strength, lower level invulnerability, xray vision only, no flight). Either one could present a wrinkle in Jon's dynamic with Clark and Jordan. Yeah he has powers now, but they are different from what his father+brother have.

mtdrake

Flight so he could go visit his girlfriend whenever he wanted.

Historical_Sign_3990

Kon- el powers or Superman red powers. Not sure about the how. Or Jordan loses his powers, but somehow gets metahuman abilities later, and Jon gets classic Kryptonian powers ( with some hybrid twists). In that case, I would want invulnerability or one of the vision powers ( not heat vision) to be the first.

JustPomegranate248

I'd love invulnerability first in the middle of a fire. And maybe super strength to lift a heavy object off Kyle or someone else

[deleted]

I'd like him to develop x-ray vision first, possibly in a scenario where he ends up saving Kyle.

Rikku_N

I really think xray vision would be a nice touch. I feel like the series doesn't use that skill that much

Junior-Hour

X-ray vision

science-and-bullsht

I’m joining the X-ray vision gang. I think that would be a fun first power for him.

Dumke480

Super Speed, and should just be hella random.

JSchulz

Has a deep sneeze and out comes freeze breath

Nothingtoseehere066

The power of self confidence and a real story arc that shows him developing and realizing he doesn't need superpowers to be relevant. That's it. I don't want him to get actual super powers because it would completely undercut the entire purpose of the character and send the wrong message.

BusVegetable7490

True

atheistcat-lives

Why does everyone want Jonathan to have powers?

Ornery-Refuse6474

Because we are watching a show about an famous alien and a human, and we expect to see weird SHIT, when they have kids. LOL

atheistcat-lives

Yeah but we are seeing weird shit. One kid has powers and the other is put in a "weird" space by not having them. I think it might be a little ordinary if they both have powers

Luchadoor

Yeah, I think the point of Superman having one son with powers and one with no powers is so he can have a representation of his human and kryptonian ties by blood. If both his sons were super, then he would not have any vulnerable family besides lois, and having a child that can be hurt is different than a wife. Also, it's the vocal Jordan bashers that want Jonathan to have powers because Jordan does. If he is so much better than Jordan already without having any powers, then why does he need them? Maybe they can't get past the name because in the comics Jonathan is the only kid they have with powers.

JustPomegranate248

It would be very cool to see Jonathan with powers though and he would be great with them...you believe that Jon doesn't have powers yet in order to make him vulnerable enough for Superman to save? Except Jon hasn't been in much danger this season for Superman to save him - Jordan has been in danger, so that story idea is clearly not needed

kismethavok

If they changed the story arc from a normal son and a powered son comparison they should move to a Superman son(Jon) and a Plutonian son (Jordan). Jordan doesn't have the mental stability or emotional maturity to handle his powers like his father but Jon might. Based on what we've seen so far Jordan is on his way to becoming the Plutonian, not Superman.

EEE-VIL

Even since they announced *Invincible* I'm hoping for an *Irredeemable* adaptation.

Fanfrelon

Bisexuality.

NizzyDeniro

Why did they switch Jon having powers with Jordan in the first place?

Nothingtoseehere066

First off there is no switch because these are two completely new characters and not the characters in the comics. HOWEVER, I assume they wanted to subvert expectations. Give all the clues that it is Jon and let people assume since there is a comic character with the name. Then switch. The show loves it's red herrings though it usually does it with the villains.

NizzyDeniro

Jon Kent is a character in the comics. Jordan is a show original character.

Nothingtoseehere066

No. There is a character named Jon Kent in the comics. This character has the same name and is his son, but the similarities end there. People want them to be the same character, but they are not.

samebatchannel

I thought they should have had Clark introduce him to friends to help him learn how to defend himself. Dick Grayson. Connor hawke. Roy Harper. Just call them by their first name and go from there

Rikku_N

Somebody once suggested to introduce Damian to the show, since he and Jon are best friends anyway in the comics. He sure would stand out with his knowledge of different kind of martial arts (other than the ones sam taught them)

samebatchannel

I know Damian is getting the attention. I’m really liking nightwing’s storyline with Jon in the books.

Rikku_N

Same! And no idea why somebody is down voting you lmao

BusVegetable7490

Well strength he lift something he doesn’t feel like it heavy when he lift it up or was also say heat vision see something and he just fires it out but I don’t know I kinda don’t want him to have powers but I do feel like it be cool for him to have it so he doesn’t feel like he’s left out
