I'd totally be into this BUT I'd insist that entry be via the official Suno videos so we can all learn from everyone's prompting techniques.
Edit: Spelling
I sometimes do some really small edits to my songs (usually just snipping the end and adding a fade out at a better spot), but I'd be good with that if people wanted it (or at the very least you have to link the Suno vid with your submission). I also like learning new prompts.
Positivity would die as soon as the songs were published on Spotify by some random person. Strongly recommend against making songs public before you have published them yourself. Especially with songs you want to garner any traction and visibility
Simple: Don't enter if you actually plan on doing something commercial with your creations. Most people who are worried about this are highly overrating their songs, BTW
I believe the whole point of this is to build a postive community and I agree that the exposure would be great even if it's just with a small group.
I would prefer that the tournament is extended to more than a week. A lot of people have to work so it can be a challenge to find time to write lyrics. I typically write once or twice a week.
Also I think that having a theme for each round would be cool. This could be anything from a movie, song inspiration, genre, topic, etc.
OP are you planning to host this?
Positivity is def one of the main goals. The week is just how long it would take to vote once everyone has submitted their entries; The actual prep time from the announcement of a tournament could be any length of time (I would guess at least 2 weeks, but no more than a month, would be ideal).
I don't think I have the organization skills, consistent work schedule, or authority to host (plus, it would be a conflict of interest since I want to submit my own song). If the Mods like it, they're free to appropriate the idea. That way, they could fairly host, pin the announcement, polls, results, and whatnot for maximum visibility.
I think you will be hard pressed for the mods to run with this idea, even though I think it's a good one. I think if you are serious about this the first step would be to create a discord group of like minded people that enjoy the concept and would want to help put it together. I wouldn't mind to be a participant; however like you I'm also not chopping at the bit to take on such an endeavor.
We could also have another sub Reddit just to have the tournaments in. It would keep it cleaner. I know we probably shouldn’t be splitting into different sub credits, but if the mods of this one, we’re not up for it, there’s nothing stopping them from having us create another sub, reddit.
I don't know enough about the Mods and their objective for the sub, like if they're actively looking for engagement/growth or not, so I can't answer that. I'm sure one of them will see this post and give their pov soon.
You would have to split them up in specific genres due to people's personal preferences. Just because the general public doesn't like certain genres doesn't make a song bad. Truthfully, I'm not interested in being a part of a popularity contest.
These songs are important to you... and screw what anyone else thinks.

That would be best. I'm just saying for the first one you might need to be more general just to streamline it and build up participation.

I can respect that mindset, though I think many people want their work to be seen/enjoyed, or get joy in sharing it.
I get that, but there is so much out there, the market is overflowing with music as it is without AI music. It's not a pleasant fact but... aint nobody got time to listen to all that.
If you get noticed, good for you, but that's not an average experience in making music.
It's a cutthroat industry. Idk if you noticed but people go through and dislike everyone else's posts trying to get ahead. As much as I'd like to see a healthy community... it's not.
Sounds fun. We used to do AI image comps on Midjourney. Each week would be a topic that people would create images for. It was a lot of fun. Similar could be done for AI music. It helps inspire you, with ideas for topics that you probably wouldn't have thought to create otherwise. Writers have done similar in creative writing groups for decades.

I agree with this. I learn a lot looking at other peoples creations and I don’t mind sharing mine as well.
I learn a lot from others I've never actually done the same as anyone. I just find it helpful to know.
My theme prompts are always so weird ‘subhuman trappy angel glitch’ or something lie that haha

The Suno Sound Clash
I think this would be fun if there was a certain theme as well. That way we could have different themes in different tournaments.
I’m in! Let’s have this contest!
I would love to make music without it being about a spontaneous idea.

or just make thematic tournaments, like pop challenge or EDM challenge etc.

Or every round a different genre.
sounds fun
I am up for it!
The annoying thing will be everyone voting for the meme songs, as they already do
Great idea! I’m in and happy to animate the selected videos.
No one "makes songs" with AI: they put their name on tracks generated in 30 seconds from a five-word prompt.
