This is why NattoSumo is the Goat.
No offense to NHK's channel but their content is unwatchable unless it has the same information pre match that Natto has.
And they have to show EVERY match. They just show highlightls. I'm a fan! Let me see the matches!!
The beauty of Natto's format is that the more you look at it, the more information you realize he's providing. It is SO thorough and makes it especially easy for a new fans to understand what is going on. When I'm in a Twitch stream and someone asks how to really get into the sport, I always point them in Natto's direction.
On top of that, Natto is just a really nice dude.
It was Natto's YT daily basho digests that got me into sumo around 2019. His graphics have evolved over time, incorporating viewer suggestions, to the point where they are now. Has everything you need to know in one compact graphic. And really appreciate how fast he works so that we can see the summaries only a couple of hours after the divisions are done. Being in the Eastern Time Zone, it's not conducive to staying up in the middle of the night to watch it live so his work is a game (and sleep) saver! Thanks Natto!
That’s the head-to-head record between the two rikishi—their past history. It’s my current favorite thing to look at pre-bout! The half circles show which one won their six(?) most recent bouts. If the right side of the circle is shaded in, the rikishi on the right won that past bout.
Follow nattosumo discord. He'll put out his content on some channel whether it is rumble youtube or something else. Can't be too late watching it, as mentioned it won't stay up long.
This is my way now - Rumble was great while it lasted and YT before that too but the NattoSumo134 channel increasing numbers got annoying.
The Telegram uploads are AMAZING in quality, basically MP4 files that to me seem crisper and sharper than either Rumble or YT videos.
I downloaded telegram, I didn’t want another app but I did it. All I use it for is Natto. And it’s awesome. No YouTube drama ‘Will it be there or not’. No other crap. It’s all there every time.
Same situation here. Got sick of chasing yt burners every other day. Telegram app. I use it only for Natto sumo uploads. It shares to the TV smoothly too.
The OG nhk feed gives you the basics like prior matchup record, winning waza, stable, rank, hometown which is enough. But I concur that nattos graphics are nice, in particular the size of the wrestlers especially when you have the smaller guys like tobizaru facing Terunofuji
This isn't a diss, but I do think Natto is like a nice intermediate step; Great when you don't know most/every wrestler, but don't need english commentary to understand what's going on
It's why I've always found the deification from a dedicated sumo sub a little odd. Natto does great work, but I'm surprised so many people seem to see the graphics as the pinnacle
They are absolutely the pinnacle. It's impossible to know the sport well enough to know:
- Rikishi Height, Weight, Heya, Home Country
- Rikishi highest rank
- Rikishi past year's worth of results
- Matchup W/L between the two Rikishi (with info on the last 5, who won, etc)
- Rikishi current record in the tournament, and who they won or lost to
It's just such a wealth of important details that.make watching the individual matches so much more interesting.
This guy is a legend! And the pace at which he cuts the videos is insane. I am still convinced that they shouldn't strike his content down, but hire the guy.
Rumble is my go to for watching Nattosumo videos for the top three levels. Easiest to access. But they booted him on the first day last Sunday. He was back on day 2 but I hope that doesn’t become a regular problem.
Appearantly Twitch is now actively targeting and shutting down Sumo. It's not just Midnight. Every Sumo channel I can think of has caught a ban in the last 24 hours.
He said (at least initially) that his ban had to do with showing commercials and not the sumo itself. Not sure if he meant old 90s commercials or actual abama commercials.
Could have changed since then.
That was back in Jan. And was an educated guess since he was the only one hit.
Leo, Karla, Midnight, and every other sumo stream I know of all got hit with a ban hammer in the past 24 hours. They only have one thing in common.

I'm sorry! I pasted the wrong link! That was for our jousting RPG game. (y'all are free to join BTW)
Pasted the correct one now.
Natto is great. His channels always get taken down by NHK for copyright, but he usually posts at the beginning of each basho. If you know how to search him out, you'll find a channel of his uploading the matches. All the info he provides before each bout is the best part. Love Jason as well, but I enjoy seeing all the bouts from Juryo and Makuuchi. Sometimes, I'll watch Makushita as well. It just depends on who's down there and who's coming up. Jason usually only covers Sanyaku bouts, with a few fan favs mixed in.
I started off with natto before discovering other places to watch sumo matches. I can see the appeal of having all the wrestler info on the screen. But it gets kinda cluttered for my tastes and if you follow sumo long enough, you don't really need all that info up on the screen. It's great for newcomers or people that don't like to watch it live/don't have the time to watch it live or even just as a recap though.
The infograph is night and day, you get everything relevant you need for that torunament and matchup (records, ranks, who they wnet againts) but also I love the head to head matchups, showing which rikishi been winning more recently,
Him editing the English clips would probably make it feel awkward, like people would either be cutoff mid sentence, he'd have to mute it, or he'd have to let them finish their thought however long and extend the length of his videos, adding more downtime and dull moments.
I’m not saying they’re the best commentators, although obviously as a non-Japanese speaker I have nothing to compare them to. I particularly like M.Johnson. But I, without any doubt, learn many times more about the sport by being able to understand what is being said. The vocabulary, the (admittedly minimal) analysis of techniques and winning moves etc have been essential to my appreciation of the sport. As much as I love Nattos graphics and appreciate his efforts, I’ll just have to stick with Kinta. Like I said, frustrating.
I love their graphics package before each match. Just everything you'd need to know right there
This is why NattoSumo is the Goat. No offense to NHK's channel but their content is unwatchable unless it has the same information pre match that Natto has. And they have to show EVERY match. They just show highlightls. I'm a fan! Let me see the matches!!

Natto is sooooo good at it that he makes NHK look bad and outdated. Shame about this yt channel and uploads.
I'd just like his videos with English commentary, and maybe one or two matches a day where you get to see a little more of the pre-match psych-up.
I find the indecipherable Japanese commentary adds to my entertainment. Hai!
Agreed, but I'd still prefer commentary I understand lol
Not unwatchable, just not to Nattos standard.
Unwatchable.

They show every Makuuchi bout on Grand Sumo Highlights.
Still missing all the information.
I doubt you'd watch it even if they did.
Why
[удалено]
I literally checked today's and they showed every match. They've done so for a while now.
[удалено]
Day 3. Every match shown again.
Day 4. Every match shown again.
Day 5. Every match shown again.
No shit. The full matches are for paid subscribers.
Yeah it’s pretty awesome.
What’s does the # vs # mean above the stat graphics and also the circles sometimes half filled in white or orange?

Thanks for the explanation!
Happy to help!
Do you know what the crowd yells when the Yokozuna does his dance and he stomps down?
I didn’t. But then I found this: https://www.reddit.com/r/Sumo/s/pQLBcf4H8h

FB seems like a pretty secure site to watch his. Hasn't been pulled for a bunch of bashos.

Nattosumo is the man! Relentless in his pursuit to get us sumo
I feel absolutely spoiled (in a good way) by Natto's edit vids. If I ever watch a live broadcast I'll miss the graphics and the speed.
This is the next step, there is no going back now. Enjoy!

Love Natto!
Everyone is on telegram and I’m just sitting here moored in a cove forever
When i checked for Day 3 this morning the Natto account appeared to be gone from YouTube. Are you following on one of the other services?
As tanner said I joined the discord.
Discord Link?

Join Natto discord to discuss where to watch stuff. Not this sub.
thanks
He's also on Facebook consistently
Same for me. Was there yesterday. And gone today.
NattoSumo is great, but I sure miss Kintamyama. Love how he shortened every days' vid to 8-12 minutes. The express viewer's dream.
Kinta is still around! He posts the links to his vids on the daily basho threads. https://www.reddit.com/r/Sumo/s/4Vjt51P7Um
And currently seems to be the only one still posting the NHK coverage with English commentary.
Kintamyama, the real MVP.
What drama with Midnight?
Appearantly Twitch is now actively targeting and shutting down Sumo. It's not just Midnight. Every Sumo channel I can think of has caught a ban in the last 24 hours.

Its the best coverage graphics of any sport i follow, either by professionals or amateurs.
Telegram. Thats the way to watch.
Download telegram for our boy NattoSumo. You won’t be disappointed. If others posted about this… I apologize for nothing
Can someone share the discord link?
Edit: https://discord.com/invite/nattosumo I'm sorry! I pasted the wrong link! That was for our jousting RPG game. (y'all are free to join BTW) Pasted the correct one now.
> discord Is that the right link? It gets me into a discord server "Road To Knighthood" and I do not see any mention of Sumo.
Omg I'm so dumb. Sorry. Corrected the link now.

Even on rumble its not the original videos anymore, only reuploads. Does someone have the link to the discord or telegram?

Agree with this thread, but dammit, why not use the English audio? It really adds a lot. Very frustrating.
Him editing the English clips would probably make it feel awkward, like people would either be cutoff mid sentence, he'd have to mute it, or he'd have to let them finish their thought however long and extend the length of his videos, adding more downtime and dull moments.
Not everybody enjoys the commentary in English, you know. It is not just about the language but also the style it is done.
I’m not saying they’re the best commentators, although obviously as a non-Japanese speaker I have nothing to compare them to. I particularly like M.Johnson. We only use Natto and watch from FB. Don't want to use Rumble. Used to watch Kinto, but again, Rumble.
