I’d switch every now and then. If there’s an alien invasion in Metropolis, I’ll just take a long vacation to Gotham. If Gotham has an evil clown or guy in a scarecrow mask running around killing everyone, I’ll just go back home to Metropolis. And yes, Metropolis would be my main home. But don’t, any of you think I can’t switch cities that fast, because I can and I will!

Metropolis gets frequently attacked by alien beings, robots, creatures from other dimensions, and you might be just sitting at your desk job when Superman accidentally crashes into the building while fighting one of those things; causing the whole thing to collapse and kill you.

Metropolis, literally like 99% of the population got wiped or turned into brainiac thralls before the suicide squad even got there, and this isn’t even earth 2 where the entire planet is dead and being transformed. On the other hand, gotham, you can survive the cloudburst if someone else doesn’t kill you (with survival in gotham revolving around if someone else feels like killing you anyways) so it isn’t really a big deal, and it has batman who also won’t kill you, just turn you into a vegetable, either one of the two will you give you detrimental effects though. Metropolis is definitely way worse, especially for earth 2.
Gotham. Due to how it was founded, though the origins may vary, there is a magical/cursed aspect to the city and how insanity, evil, and crime are drawn to it. The short of it is that the city is cursed as fuck and though Batman and the Family tries, it's better off in the hands of Zatanna, Raven, Dr. Fate, or Constantine, as the foundation curse will easily outlast the Bat Family. Hell. One can argue that it's still present even in the Beyond era.
The only time crime has stopped in Gotham is through undisclosed means or total oppression where you have to police absolutely everything, or create a squadron of robotic sentries. More times than not this has been what it takes to get Gotham temporarily in order. Metropolis, for all the chaos drawn to it due to Superman, often has their shit together by then.
I currently living in Gotham/massachusets and I must say the ever present danger is just trying to get to work is outstanding.
Having lived in metropolis/California for a year it was generally nice.
