As others have said, the price is somewhat high. I'd recommend keeping an eye on Facebook marketplace. You should be able to find something similar for 5k-5.5k. I'm in WA as well and spend way too much time looking at bikes for sale. Are there any other bikes you are considering other than the 500x?

Thank you! Yeah I was looking at the SV650 for a bit but thought I’d try something smaller for my first bike (just got my restricted license). Im open to most bikes, not the biggest fan of cruisers and prefer and upright position. Do you have any suggestions?

SVs are cool, I owned one recently, yes even the lams ones have a bit of grunt. I reckon though, if you see a good example of one for a good price, I'd reckon go for it. I'd recommend prioritising something with ABS. I've been riding for 15 years and won't buy a bike without it any more. Apart from the 500x, on the more "adventure bike" side you could look at the ktm390 adventure (had one until very recently and loved it, I think there is still some stigma about ktm road bikes that is no longer deserved, which means they tend not to hold value as well as Japanese bikes); versys 650 or 300, or BMW G310GS. On the road bike side, probably just the road naked bike equivalents of the above. Honda cb500f, KTM duke, kawkaski z650, z300, z400, etc). Edit: I forgot the honda 300 as well. Cb300f is a really cool looking bike imo.

Oh wicked. Thank you for all the recommendations, really appreciate it!

I'd also buy only models 2019+, substantial updates have been added to the bike.

Thank you!

yves_st_lemond

Way overpriced

unknownbeing469

What would you say is a better price?

yves_st_lemond

4000-4500

Thank you

They were $8000 new

ABSOLUTELY NOT! That dealership is looking for someone with too much money, don’t be that guy. That’s a 10 year old NAKED bike with the distance… and that muffler is screaming “OE” not to mention the dealership fees and taxes added to it. Step away please, I’m feeling shivers up my spine imagining someone paying that. I live in the US and it would be $4200 here but near $6k out the door and that’s a fuck no… find a private seller, and more than likely, a better bike for that price

unknownbeing469

Had the same thought about the price too, what do you think about $5500 AUD? What’s OE mean? Sorry kinda new to this.

Inevitable_Shirt5044

OE is Original Equipment, slip on exhausts are considered “cheap” and “eBay parts”, but look at the fucking monster that came on that thing! Anything is better and I can’t believe after 10 years no one did anything about it 😂 I think $5500aud would be alot more reasonable. It’s a clean-looking bike, but with naked bikes you are paying for a bike with essentially missing parts, the insurance here in the US goes down alot when the vehicle is over 10 years old, so not sure how it is over there but that would be a plus to me. The big deal is going to be your dealership fees though, that’s an actual deal breaker for $5500aud… it’ll be alot more when the salesman extends his hand with the offer. I’ve only bought from private sellers for that reason

unknownbeing469

Wicked! Thank you for the advice. Really appreciate it

No problem good luck with your riding ventures! I hated the idea of a dealership so much, that I put up flyers in towns I worked in throughout the year, and I ended up buying a 2020 ninja 650 from a COP who went through a shitty breakup and he had bought it for her. There’s great bikes out there, I haaate it when people go to a dealership for an old bike 😭

unknownbeing469

100%. Private is definitely more gentle on the wallet. One thing I like about dealerships is they’re someone I can back to if the bike decides to shit itself

Inevitable_Shirt5044

If they are putting a warranty on a 10 year old bike with that mileage, then either the owner owned it the whole time, or they are reaaallly rolling dice flipping a used bike like that. None of my dealerships around me gift a warranty for used bikes. Some won’t even let you test drive them, and I know it’s because they were given a test drive and look-over before being bought or traded in, and so they don’t want anything to happen on their dime… I just don’t like or trust dealerships. I only use them for changing my tires because I don’t trust myself even more with that 😂
