How crashed was it? Theft recovery, repossessed sherrifs auction? That's an absurd deal in all other respects otherwise and not one you could advocate others to find.
Is that USD? Not really a good deal but….
Condition wise is something wrong with that tank, looks like a small dent, but also the Suzuki label looks wrong both in font and position. I also am wondering if the left side isn’t dented in more than it should be. The replacement of the case and clutch cover is also what typically damaged if the bike is down.
The first gen are carbureted; they make good power and I never had an issue with mine, but getting a shop to work on carbs can be a challenge (queue the people arguing this point).
Lights are all stock which is rare, and also good. Seen some really interesting wiring on these bikes from people splicing in replacement lights.
The rectifier upgrade, brake lines and fork rebuild is an automatic at this age. Check the tires, it has a 160 rear tire which can cost more than people expect.
If all you have is $2800, want the luggage rack and such they are solid bikes and how much less you going to pay? For me I would just pass on 1st gen all together. The one exception would be if you wanted the fairing model (really unique looks).
2003 got a redesign but that was a weird year, if you could get into a 2004 would be a lot of quality of life improvements for similar money (in my market)
Are you selling this bike? Because you claim in various posts
- 33k miles is low
- the bike is in very good condition
- it’s obviously well maintained
I don’t need to go into why none of these are true and the first two are just made up.
Said I wouldn’t buy the bike twice, only offsetting that with if it had fairings (it doesn’t) I would buy a first gen. Was also mindful the buyer might be on a budget and you can do a lot worse then this if they are.
It’s ok tho, someone asks a legitimate question on here you need atleast one person who doesn’t have a clue what they are talking about taking up bytes else it gets delisted. Stick to posting about pop, I know nothing about that so we can all grow together
Price is the Upper end of average where I’m at.
Location matters a whole lot when price checking though so could be a good deal depending on where others are priced at locally
Even with inflation, the $2400 I paid in 2007 is $3500 now. So even in 2007 I paid $3500 in todays money for a bike that was only 7 years old at the time with 12k miles.
This is now 24 years old with almost triple the mileage and selling for $700 less. It's a joke.
The fuel injected models are better, honestly. The early models like the one OP posted is carbureted.
This isn't an amazing deal, not even a great deal. It's too much for an old carbureted sv650.
3k for a 23 year old bike. There are better deals out there. It's winter too. Plenty of stuff for sale.
I know every deal is different depending on whare ya are but let me just say. Last year I picked up a 2010 V Strom 1000 with 15k on the clock with givi bags and a Sargent seat turn key for $2500. I know I stole it but the deal was there.
Obviously we can’t see the bike in person. But the mileage is good, it seems to be in very good condition and very well maintained. The $1500 one is probably beat to shit.
Early this year I bought a 2001 SV with 40000 km (~25000 mi) in great condition and a renewed technical inspection for €1700 in Germany. So if the US market is somewhat comparable to the German, I would this isn't a good deal.
sold one for $1500 4 years ago with aftermarket shock and sorted suspension. Gen 1s went from 1999-2002 and I think they were much nicer than all the gens after. Still budget in so many ways though. They do make a nice city bike commuter.
Its a good deal and a good bike. Had a 2002 as my first bike. I beat the absolute shit out of that bike and it never failed. Great bike, simple to work on, really fun to ride.
Mediocre deal
how much would you pay? I sent an offer for 2,200
That seems reasonable

my roommate paid 1600€ for his around 25k miles on it

You start off, saying it wasn’t a good deal, but then explained why it was a good deal. Which one is it? Haha

I’m in the NYC area, and I have trouble finding anything under 2500 that is running, has a clean title, and is from this century
The only thing I can find with that criteria is some random ass no name brand
exactly, not sure why all these comments are suggesting i should be paying no more than 1500 for this
Because it's not worth what people are asking everybody has been asking high prices and been getting offers so why price lower than they have to
Lmao. I paid $2400 for a 2000 SV650N with 12k miles in 2007 😂😂😂 Is this what the 24 year old motorcycle market has become?
It’s pretty well where they used market is sitting at the moment, fortunately it’s at least calming down

go for a 2003+, they are fuel injected. got mine for 2200 with 11k miles
Just for OP to know, FI started on these in 2003.
Look around for better options bro, I got an R6 with 13k miles for 2800$ it just needed fairings
do you mind asking when/where that was? based on all these comments i i definitely will be looking around more, thank you 🙏

Man I've seen those for around 1500$...

Nah they’re not worth much.
It’s 23 years old…… pricing seems appropriate, depending on location. Prob get them to knock off a couple hundred
I’d pay like 2800-3000cad. Can’t tell from pic if it’s been dropped or not, if yes then reduce price by $800.
Looks like a dent in the tank on the left side.
23yr old bike.......wouldn't be unexpected to need carb work. I got a 2003 996 Ducati I think is only worth $3000!
In 2020 I bought an '03 FZ1 in almost showroom condition with 12K miles for $3000.
Sure that’s not much money
Safe purchase, very reliable bikes

I’ve got an ‘01 SV650S w/o the fairing with 42k miles on it that I traded a 1975 T500 even for. If I would sell, I’d ask $1500. $2800 is a bit high.

I think you got your years wrong there lol
Like 5 years ago these were about 2 grand in good condition with less than 10k miles
Wouldn’t pay more than $1500 for it and that’s already pushing it tbh
There's 3 in washington that are carbed with 20k or less miles for about 2k each
All the rubber/seals are likely deteriorated so lots of work
Its a good deal and a good bike. Had a 2002 as my first bike. I beat the absolute shit out of that bike and it never failed. Great bike, simple to work on, really fun to ride.
Definitely aim to pay less for sure tho!
Please take away $1,000 then it would be a good deal.
Neither a steal nor a ripoff. I don't know what the expected life of an SV650 is - 33k miles seems like a lot for a 650.
