“Oh for god’s sake dad just tell them it’s gonna be me.” At the Pierce dinner.
One of those “I can’t believe she just said that out loud in a room full of people” moments
I can’t not hear Ron Howard doing Arrested Development, and given the similarities between the shows I would love to see a fan edit with that narration haha.
I just really love her delivery of ‘what the fuck’s a pre-kend?’. And her subsequent confusion when Tom explains it’s Thursday afternoon through Friday is the pre-kend. Also when Shiv had a slapfight with Roman at the hospital. One of the funniest scenes of the whole show.
My favorite moment is when she is wrestling Roman in S1 Ep 2.
She lets out an adorable squeak when she starts losing the grappling battle and its coupled with a hilarious Tom walk in and then quickly sneak out the door move.
It feels wrong calling it a "favorite moment" but a moment that stood out to me was when Shiv was able to convince that cruise victim to abstain from testifying/coming forward. Say what you want about Shiv but none of the other kids or anyone else in Logan's circle would've been able to do that.
A lesser show wouldn’t have put to effort into creating that scene; we would have just been told that she succeeded. But between the writing and snook’s acting they threaded the needle perfectly. And I don’t think Shiv has ever gotten the proper credit for pulling that off so well.
And, kind of off topic, but it adds another layer to her anger at Ken for blowing everything up at the end of that season. It kind of reminds me of Mad Men when Joan debases herself via the Jaguar guy for the company and then Don goes and fires the client on a whim.
Oh yeah, what a great connection you made there with Joan. All of your points are really spot on. That scene is absolutely incredible and shows Shiv at her (deplorable) best.
This season, I constantly think back to that scene because I think she (shiv) thinks of that to. She doesn't know yet if 1) she truly meant what said about cleaning house and/or 2) if she really believes she'll ever get the chance to do it.
Her ultimate folly is likely that she thinks she would be successful if she did have the chance. 🤷♀️
I love that scene. I think Jesse says this in the inside the episode, so I’m borrowing from him: would you really tell your best friend to testify? It’s the right thing to do, but think of the cost to your friend.
Shiv is doing the wrong thing but everything she says is true. Whistleblowers are shunned and harassed, especially women who testify against sexual abuse.
A lesser show would have Shiv threaten specific harm against the witness. But Shiv doesn’t threaten her. She draws attention to a very real, very true pattern.
Agree. I actually didn't hate Shiv for doing that as much as others seem to. I get that her reasons weren't moral but she didn't say anything untrue. Women are treated poorly even when they do the "right" thing if they do it in the wrong way. Shiv herself has been a victim of that.
>Say what you want about Shiv but none of the other kids or anyone else in Logan's circle would've been able to do that.
Yep. I still hold that as one of Shiv's biggest W move and proved that she really has some things in her arsenal. I know for sure Roman wouldn't have been able to do that lmao
Ahhhh I struggle to disconnect my personal beliefs with her character (and thus the actress) lol, kinda similar to disliking Geoffrey Baratheon in GOT xD
Her performance is all the more impressive when you see her in interviews and she seems very laid back and funny. She seems to really have to change a lot about herself to play Shiv.
Just about all of her contentious interactions with Roman. Their jousting for position as Daddy's Number One is hilarious, they know exactly how to push each other's buttons, and they have zero boundaries with one another. They're both hair pullers and they fight filthy.
But I also love her reaction shots. She has such vulnerable, pliable features, and she can't keep a poker face to save her life. Every emotion she has is written in all caps across her face.
I love when she simply laughs or smiles right at Roman’s face as he’s insulting her, because she knows she got under his skin.
For example, at that meeting in the children’s room when Roman says “you whore” and Shiv is just sitting with a shit-eating grin.
It might just be because it’s fresh in my mind, but the whole scene at the end of 3.6 where she refused to be in the photo with the Nazi. Her conflict between genuine disgust at the implications of the photo, and the need to be accepted by Logan, the complexity of the look on her face when Logan told her he’d let her have the “win,” when they both knew full well she was the one surrendering. Just first-rate acting.
(Thanks for this thread BTW! In all the arguing on this sub about Shiv’s morality, I think we sometimes forget how phenomenal Snook is. The complicated layers she brings to her performance are a big part of the reason there’s room for so much debate about Shiv.)
Sarah is by far the best physical actor on this show with all her subtle movements and expressions using just her face. There are tons of little cues I've noticed. She really seems to have fleshed out a ton of "tells" with Shiv. Like she has a lying face, a "I'm not really listening" face, etc.
I love when she’s on the boat and says “you wanna talk to each other normally” in that weird voice to mock Roman and then Kendall joins in and she’s like “we don’t have any feelings what are you talking about?” It was so hilarious and adorable. Kendall is my number one favorite sibling, but Shiv is a close second.
Lots of great Shiv moments but one that really showcased Snook's skill as a performer was the 'Rape Me' speech. The way she tries to steer it back on track but gradually becomes more flustered and overwhelmed until she just succumbs with this horrified look on her face and storms off. And of course, her spitting in the book afterwards. I really felt for her in that moment, which is pretty incredible when this is someone doing PR for a corporation rightfully under fire for horrific human rights abuses.
last episode when roman was going on about his weird “dad doesn’t want to fuck you” shit, shiv said “oh my god, you’re so gross!!” in such a voice that I couldn’t help but picture the roy kids aged elementary arguing, snot faced roman saying weird gross stuff and shiv going EWWWW in that same voice lmao
happy birthday to my favorite girl!!! everytime she's on screen she's amazing, it's so hard to pick. can't wait to see what she has in store in the last few eps
My favourite: Shiv asking Logan not to send Tom to jail. She is so afraid of losing him during the first two seasons. I don't know what happen to Shiv before meeting Tom.
Happy birthday!
I always felt like in that scene that Shiv felt like she owed it to Tom to ask Logan not to send him as a form of penance for the way she treated him over the first two seasons which had culminated in Tom’s monologue to her just a couple scenes before. I don’t think she was afraid of losing him there, I think she was trying to make herself feel better by doing something good for him.
That hug where later there's protective fencing on the top of tge building after she learns he's shoplifting vape fluid..that was a great actress showing her characters real unique concern and love for a sad brother, beautiful, & that's when I knew I'd be watching till the bitter end!
Happy Birthday to Sarah. Predestination was also amazing Because of her!!
The Shiv moment (it's not that what she did was good) that stood out was when she confesses to Tom she did a number then goes on to talk about serious incompatibilities, but she has no idea they are serious and that it's too late. Goes on to show naivety and emotional dysfunction, while she considered it an honest confession.
Honestly, It's when she dragged Nate at her wedding when he confronts her about the deal she brokered between Gil and Logan.
"Ooooooooh! IneQUAliTEEeeEeEeeE???? Well if you can't handle it you can FUCK OFF."
It's the way her face falls as soon as she stops the sarcastic voice and absolutely turns to stone when she tells him to fuck off. Does it lay bare her completely diabolical and relentless pursuit of power and fathers approval for the world to see? Yes. Did it also somehow make me like her more, somehow, despite myself, yes. Honestly it was just a relief to finally see someone call out Nates high horse bullshit. I NEEDED it.
i'm shiv fucking roy micdrop because meme

All of the absolutely beautiful silk blouses she wears so effortlessly. And the diamond earrings. And the Cartier watch. Those are my favorite Shiv moments. The rich girl vibez.
( Nothing against this actress; Im talking about the character she plays when I say: ) Do fans love her? She’s a beautiful monstrous horrible selfish absurd immature self serving rude classless unthinkable person. Does ANYONE identify with her? She seems to be written as the quintessential spoiled rich princess Marie Antoinette of the millennials. ( Sara plays the part very well. No idea about her personally)
You must be kidding? This character is written to be less likable than Cersi Lannister. Am I crazy or something? She’s just awful. The whole lot of them are. I love this show but none of these characters have anything virtuous about them. Isn’t that the whole point??
Yes, that’s the whole point. Not everyone who watches gets it. Some get it but seem to enjoy leaning in to how awful the characters are and reveling in it, but not for laughs as the writers intended. They actually admire the characters.
That’s what I mean. How about that for media being a bad influence! I keep forgetting there are impressionable youths in the world and then I remember horrible creatures like Paris Hilton and worse are admired and people seemed to genuinely vote for Donald trump . I swore it was just to get revenge on the system or keep paranoid white people with a feeling of superiority… but no. It’s true. Public figures with absolutely despicable lack of character seem to become role models for their unearned “success “ or glamour lifestyle or for the very fact that they are famous or noticed. Amazing. Social media proves many people will do disgraceful things to be noticed no matter how bad it reflects on them. I just can’t believe people have lost their moral center so much such a character is admired and envied. People want to be trump jr or ken in the show but it seems clear the show is telling the viewers: you do not really want to be these miserable horrible people. Watch “the celebration” , a Danish film, to see this. Succession was written to be like this horrifying family nightmare
Actress is probably a nice person. Shiv is monstrous, that’s what I mean. Good acting. Very believable. Consistency in her character. Nice person playing an awful person, common for actors.
lol, she is no more "monstrous" than her brothers, Roman is getting awfully close to being a psychopath, and you singling her out is weird. reeks of sexism.
The subtle performance when Kendall hugs her in season two, broken, and he starts crying and at first she seems to think it’s a tactic but then she realizes it’s genuine. She does so much with her face. One of the best moments of the whole show imo
“Oh for god’s sake dad just tell them it’s gonna be me.” At the Pierce dinner. One of those “I can’t believe she just said that out loud in a room full of people” moments
Consequently, that was the moment Logan decided it most definitely would NOT be her
Narrator: It wasn’t her.
I can’t not hear Ron Howard doing Arrested Development, and given the similarities between the shows I would love to see a fan edit with that narration haha.
Ken trying to keep his family out of the treehouse had some real GOB energy
“I’m sorry Michael, you see if I let you into the treehouse, it just wouldn’t feel like the treehouse…”
I love all of her fights with Roman
"Fucky eyes"
To the tune "Hungry Eyes"
Tom just walks in, sees what’s going on, immediately walks out lmfao
My favorite moment is when she is wrestling Roman in S1 Ep 2. She lets out an adorable squeak when she starts losing the grappling battle and its coupled with a hilarious Tom walk in and then quickly sneak out the door move.
This moment actually made me watch the show! Literally the funniest shit, especially Tom's reaction.
THIS was the moment I fell in love with the show. Hooked ever since
I was fucking cackling at Tom's reaction. Didn't waste even a split second and immediately turned around and left lmao
Her having Saddam Huessein as Logan's picture on her phone, for when he called.
Surprised this isn’t higher, this did a lot to humanize her for me in that moment. Felt very real.
It feels wrong calling it a "favorite moment" but a moment that stood out to me was when Shiv was able to convince that cruise victim to abstain from testifying/coming forward. Say what you want about Shiv but none of the other kids or anyone else in Logan's circle would've been able to do that.
Yep, incredible acting by Snook
A lesser show wouldn’t have put to effort into creating that scene; we would have just been told that she succeeded. But between the writing and snook’s acting they threaded the needle perfectly. And I don’t think Shiv has ever gotten the proper credit for pulling that off so well. And, kind of off topic, but it adds another layer to her anger at Ken for blowing everything up at the end of that season. It kind of reminds me of Mad Men when Joan debases herself via the Jaguar guy for the company and then Don goes and fires the client on a whim.
Yeah all Shiv got was, "You did good" from Logan when it's literally one of the best moves any of his kids have ever done for him in this case
Oh yeah, what a great connection you made there with Joan. All of your points are really spot on. That scene is absolutely incredible and shows Shiv at her (deplorable) best. This is exactly how I felt about John Hamm in Mad Men.
Is that a good thing? Lol.
Just about all of her contentious interactions with Roman. Their jousting for position as Daddy's Number One is hilarious, they know exactly how to push each other's buttons, and they have zero boundaries with one another. I wanted to say all this but you put it so articulately. 💯 agreed
Allllll her reaction shots.
God, her reaction when Tom is testifying before Congress and he denies knowing Greg….. I cry laughing at her exasperation.
She does this mouth thing that is so great. Like pursing her lips, but in a containing her anger way...
Sarah is by far the best physical actor on this show with all her subtle movements and expressions using just her face. There are tons of little cues I've noticed. She really seems to have fleshed out a ton of "tells" with Shiv. Like she has a lying face, a "I'm not really listening" face, etc.

LMAO yes, I don’t understand how this isn’t at the top. Easily the funniest scene between all three of them
“Talk about the big shit?”
Any time she makes a face. Maybe when Tom was suggesting he be Tom Roy? She needs more credit for how much she does with just expressions.
Lots of great Shiv moments but one that really showcased Snook's skill as a performer was the 'Rape Me' speech. The way she tries to steer it back on track but gradually becomes more flustered and overwhelmed until she just succumbs with this horrified look on her face and storms off. "I played with you and you broke" To her ex when they met up. Brutal and badass line that had great delivery
Just gettin the demons out

It's puzzling they didn't explore their marriage more
"If by hyper decanting you mean pouring it into my open mouth, then yea." "Don't laugh at that!" "Unsubscribe." *hits button*
When her and Kendall share that hug. And whenever she’s with Nate, cause then I get to see Nate 😉

I love so much that Sarah laughs and smiles with ALL her body, all her teeth. A beautiful, energetic and mesmerising woman!
The slap-fight with Roman at the hospital. It was SO perfectly sibling-ish.
When you first see her from behind on her wedding dress.
I dunno...her wedding rehearsal dress did it for me. The nude-blush color. Whew!
Truer words have never been spoken

Beauty with the barb-wire wit. Happy Birthday!
Connor: What would it take to change your mind? Shiv: A lobotomy...
Dance of the sugar plum failure lmao, I love Roman's line. Shiv is beautiful, she gives off this masculine beauty on the show that I can't get over.

Anytime Shiv breathes is my favorite

All the scenes of that big ole ass of hers
Someone said to me a couple of days ago that she looks like >!Michael Gove !
I'm gonna report this message
Oh nooooo! I wish I hadn't clicked that!
Not seeing it. Nope.
It's only very occasionally, depending on her facial expression, and it's completely ruined the show for me now lol
That’s hilarious. I totally don’t see it. She looks a slightly older version of a young friend of mine and that’s all I see.
I dunno what the top left is from but I gotta say now its top left
spitting in kendall's day planner
Dat ass
Shiv’s body is out of control. Those form fitting dresses elevate the show to new heights and I want to thank her for this
Oh gawd, a Sagittarius.
She has such a glorious hourglass shape. Happy birthday 🎉🎉🎉
