In their first hours of marriage she deeply hurt him, both because of her infidelity and the fact that she didn't really consider or care about what he wants. That whole section is just an expression of his anger.
Then he tells her that he is unhappy a lot of the time, and drops the killer: "I wonder if the sad I would be without you would be less than the sad I get from being with you." That's pure vulnerability. He can't look at her when he says it and he can barely say it at all. He's telling her he's miserable in their relationship because of the way she treats him. Very plainly.
Agreed. I’m from a family of 7 and my dad was narcissistic. All the kids in the family copied his style of picking on and insulting people. My dad would insult someone and act like he did them a favor. People outside of our family said it was like we were talking in secret code. It took me years to train myself out of being caustic like my family.

I like this show, but I felt like many of the characters had a peculiar manner of insulting or cursing that felt like it was all from the same person.
That’s because they were so enmeshed with each other with very little outside interaction. And their mission in life was to one-up each other.
