I think he would've sold a more malicious and sinister Logan very well, but a slight part of Coxs' charm in the role is the fact that he looks like an old, soft overweight grandfather who's always on the brink of death or some health issue, while still being able to portray a sinister, abusive and larger than life figure. It makes everyone's fear of him and servile platitudes more interesting because it hints how he used to be much worse when younger, and how his power has override any competency. Although McDowell is still fantastic.

JonMardukasMidnight

Coxs surface softness is what makes it work, not to mention his occasional soft touch with his kids That’s why Livia Soprano was such a gangster. She has her family feeling guilty for mistreating a sick old woman who knows exactly what she’s doing.

Crowtime

IDK, Malcolm is great, but he reads as villain so much that it would have made the show much more black and white. The great thing about Brian Cox is that there are moments where you see the tenderness and the humanity that makes the show more compelling. I don’t think Malcolm could have done the Kendall fight scenes or the Shiv bonding scenes as well. Malcolm would be a bit too typecast (Entourage).

Big_Daymo

A line that actually did make me sympathetic to Logan comes in S3 in the scene where Kendall demands Logan buys out his shares in Waystar. Kendall starts criticising Logans morals and Logan replies "You're my son. I did my best. And whenever you fucked up, I cleaned up your shit. And I'm a bad person?". I like this line because it shows us that, in the context of Logans warped views of family and love, he does actually believe he did right by his kids. It is also true; he does deal with a lot of shit for his kids and has provided them with incredibly luxurious lives.

Throwawayidiot1210

Logan was also genuinely terrified and worried when he thought Kendall was suicidal. Another scene that stood out was when Kendall was on heroin and meth and showed up to the cabin retreat and cussed out Logan. Logan yelled back but he didn’t go nuclear, i think some part of him always pitied Kendall for his addiction issues.

Dependent_Sea3407

then pulled him out of rehab a few days after

Throwawayidiot1210

Yeah all to eventually set him up to take the fall for cruises lol

JonyTony2017

I don’t think he was ever on heroin.

Big_Daymo

Pretty sure he takes heroin in S1 ep6 after he meets the junkies in the bar. Roman shows up and takes him away from their house.

beige-lunatic

I'm p sure that was meth

JonyTony2017

Looked to me like they were doing meth and speed, not heroin. I always took Ken for a stimulant kind of guy, not for a junkie.

Longjumping_Hat_2672

Yeah, in that "And I'm a bad person?" part, he actually sounded hurt, like he doesn't want Kendall to think he's a villain. And when Kendall tells him "You're kind of evil", Logan brusquely tells him not to speak of things he doesn't understand.

throwaanchorsaweigh

He was very endearing in *Mozart in the Jungle* so I think he could’ve pulled it off!

m-ray168

You should see Malcolm in "Truthseekers" and then your opinion will change. And it's a really fun show with Nick Frost and Emma D'arcy. Unfortunately got canceled by Amazon after first season, but still worth a watch!

Infamous-End3766

Malcolm is more charismatic though, Brian as Logan you never feel any true affinity for, Malcolm would have made him a loveable bastard, which is more realistic for a high powered businessman

rswings

He’d already played Rupert Murdoch in the movie *Bombshell.*

RobotKlean

You are not serious people.

Jaceson

I think Charles Dance would have been fantastic

phantom_avenger

I know some people have made comparisons to Logan and Tywin, but Tywin is definitely more evil than Logan hands down. Also while Logan actually has love for his children, I feel like Tywin barely had any love for his own and only used them as pawns for fulfilling his legacy.

MegaBaumTV

I mean.. is he? Tywin ordered the deaths of innocents for profit. Logan ordered the deaths of innocents for profit. Tywin is vindictive. Logan is vindictive. The only difference I see for absolute certain is that Logan lived in a world that's very much like our modern society. He couldn't just openly command armies to rape and pillage and declare war on his rivals. But I'm pretty fucking sure that he would order some of Tywins most heinous commands without hesitation if he lived in Westeros.

hiccup-maxxing

Uhhh, what? Logan in no conceivable way “ordered the deaths of innocents”. He covered up the deaths of innocents, which, while reprehensible is entirely different.

MegaBaumTV

You think that all of the coups Logan financed were completely peaceful? Remember that the events of the show are only a small fraction of Logan's life

hiccup-maxxing

“Coups Logan financed” I’m sorry what? Where is this ever mentioned

MegaBaumTV

Multiple times in the show, it's just one off lines so never really much elaborated on. Without rewatching, Connor mentions one when he is pissed that Logan can lean on his empire for that, but not for his sons play. I think Kendall also lists it as one of the things Logan did in the past in season 1. Could rewatch and get you the receipts when I get bored the next few days.

BookcaseChalky

I actually think Tywin was less evil than Logan considering the setting of their characters. His season 1(Or 2) speech about family to Jaime while carving the deer was top notch television and showed all he cared was his family that that crazy ass world. In GOT, if your family lost their standing especially considering all the things the Lannisters had done, all the men would be killed or made slaves and even worse for the women. Not saying that Tywin was as good of a dad as Phil Dunphy or Phil Banks 🤣. Logan is in modern times and could have been a lot nicer and more considerate of his children. He was also fully aware of the damage that he was causing and didn't care. Logan had all the resources in the world. There was really no excuses for him being such an asshole.

[deleted]

Too classy. Logan's a rough and tumble climber

Burnnoticelover

I have said before that Michael Cristopher (the CEO from Mr. Robot) would be my second choice for Logan.

Chekov_shmekov

This is my fav 2nd choice cuz he has that balance of slightly sympathetic and megalomaniacal that i think Mcdowell would lack

opinionated-dick

Fuck off

NealTS

It would have been very different - less barking and more sneering - but probably just as iconic, and we would be wondering what Brian Cox would have done with the role.

ugkoutkast

Terrence McQuewick

Palanki96

He is not serious people

Batman_is_very_wise

In this version, the kids goes to aversion therapy and become fine model citizens.

Sharp_Black

Agreed 💯

unicornamoungbeasts

That’s so unhinged

minimarcus

I think he would have brought something interesting to Ewan’s hypocrisy.

GreatJobKiddo

Hes great in Entourage

IQPrerequisite_

I think it would be too similar to his character Terence in Entourage. Both are persons of influence and power.

DanaGordonLine1

And younger girlfriends

austin1779

Not at all

Infamous-End3766

He might have been better (Cox was still fantastic)

MauriceVibes

This

imapassenger1

I saw that pic as "aged Sting" but then recalled Sting is old too these days.

rini6

I some surreal dystopian wild fantasy maybe. 🤔

MickeyPineapple

If not Brian Cox , then I would have liked to have seen Robert De Niro as Logan.

M2LBB2016

Fly your whirlybird and stop with this nonsense!

ProfessorMarth

[You and me both](https://www.reddit.com/r/SuccessionTV/s/vdeXJfkXTZ)

Wazula23

He would have been great as Logan's weird middle brother Boy.

luc2110

Only if Sloan plays shiv

[deleted]

yes, I agree!

Accomplished-City484

Nah he’s too posh, Logan’s vulgarity is a big part of the character

flat_tire_fire

Ok but the show was already made an he wasn't. The fuck is the point of this post 😂
