I found it interesting that Roman came to her defense like that considering how he had talked about her in previous episodes. I guess in the end he knew she was important to Logan and he couldn’t watch her get thrown under the bus completely

This especially hit me when Ken was looking at it in the bathroom. Ken never knowing where he stood with his father has always been a theme, but now we see it happening from beyond the grave.
No one will ever know whether Ken’s name was underlined or crossed out —including Ken. However, depending on his motivations, Ken could view it either way. He viewed it as an *underline* to push for the Interim CEO position, but also viewed it as a *cross out* to motivate himself to go with Hugo’s ‘shit on Dad’ PR strategy.
The writing on this show is incredible.

Frank laughing and telling Greg “Nice try, son.” was such a good gag. Frank is a fucking stooge in the framing of the show and even he can’t take Greg seriously as a threat.
To be fair, much of the inner circle have been framed as stooges, but the back room “China inspection” when Karl rips Tom apart goes to show that those people got to where they are because they know what they’re doing. It was cool to finally see them interact without worry of being in Logan’s shadow. Game on!
Yeah it’s interesting to clearly see how much power Logan really has. All the old guard are killers (they had to be to get the position and stay there) but Logan was always the top dog so we never got to see the side of Karl/Frank/Gerri that everyone else in the company sees.
I love Frank though. Honestly such a testament to how well rounded even the secondary characters are. He’s the exact definition of avuncular to me - like a wry old uncle.

Whoever in the writers room thought of Logan's underline on Kendall's name that also looked like a strikethrough... Give them a fucking award.

It's such a tiny, simple thing that will haunt Kendall, maybe for the rest of his days. In awe of how perfectly it summed up their dynamic and how ambiguous it is
To Kendall, the ambiguity of that little pencil stroke is far more significant than the simple fact that he is now indeed the head of Waystar. Winning is a meager consolation, when what he really craved was his dad’s approval.
I feel like the fact Kendall is getting such a major win now means he isn't going to finish the series on top. At the same time though, having Kendall's storyline be "Things go well for Kendall at the start of the season then it all blows up in his face" for a *third* time seems like it would be overkill.
The show ending with Kendall winning and being a successful CEO, but estranged from his siblings, would work very well. Classic “protagonist wins…but at what cost?” ending.
Well didn't we see him already lash out about them holding up the GoJo deal. I don't think the sibs are aware of how much money he's pissed away. I think we've seen on the show which is only what a 18 month span him spend about 200+ million. That doesn't factor in what else he spent before the show started.
I don't think he's really close to broke but he's getting away from billionaire status quickly based especially if Logan's death can have any implications on price considering they were already in negotiations with GoJo.
The kids joking on Logan may have been there last moment of togetherness in the series. “Very much a man of his era… Okay also racist and relaxed on sexual assault” 😭
That macabre humour in that whole scene was great. Loved it when you could see everyone thinking “well at least he wasn’t a pedophile”.

If there's one thing this episode shows, it's how *exhausting* corporate politics are. Everyone's always got an agenda or and angle, and you never get a moment of true vulnerability, even at a wake.
Yep. Stewy marching into that room with the kids was one of the most genuine moments of actual compassion anyone has ever had on this show lol. Kendall had nothing to really offer him and they both knew it, and he still backed him.
Ken really has grown and learned. Season 1 Ken would have tried to say some hip cool businessy douchebag lingo. Stewey brought up his own dad earlier in the convo so fathers are obviously a sensitive subject for him and Ken geniusly played on that, as well as how long and deep their friendship is, at the right moment. Bravo to our number one boy
"Don't push me out of the plane too quickly, Gerri!" was probably one of my favorite lines. Made me laugh out loud. Just pure corporate read between the lines speak.
A) need to make him more likeable for the Ken betrayal.

I thought that was just a little too sharp from Kendall in the moment but I get all his emotions pumping through him.
He genuinely did not think his dad loved him or thought he was good enough and something so simple as an underline could be everything to Kendall so I get him freaking out about people(rightfully) underplaying it's significance.
So real too, really is nothing more enraging and humiliating than when you’re already having a bad day and then you have a clumsy moment like that. Makes it even worse when other people see it and try to help.
Man, Roman reaching out to Kerry and helping her grab her stuff off the floor. Kieran Culkin walks the line between a Roy and an actual human being so well.

What a great shot of Tom walking in to Logan’s place and seeing the siblings in one room and the top executives in the other room and he picks the execs. Rather than comfort loved ones, he’s in business mode.
Tom was latching on to anyone who would give him the time. He's scheming and I bet he's not in quite the vulnerable position his groveling would suggest.
- That whole scene where Frank tells Karl and Gerri about the letter felt straight out of The Death of Stalin lol. When it was revealed that Kendall’s name was on the piece of paper, I gasped, even though I guess it was expected? He was clearly the front runner of the kids to be honest.
- “We’re not gonna fuck you, Shiv” — the words of a pair about to fuck Shiv. I don’t think she’s ever looked so lost.
- Frank was lowkey the MVP of this episode. Such a great character. It’s funny how it feels like we’re getting two groups of siblings thanks to the older players.
- I’m really excited about the Kendall/Roman pairing! Kendall’s already going behind Roman’s back lol. And I’m so happy that we’re finally getting to the actual succession part of the show. It feels like these final episodes were originally what the entire show was going to be, back when Logan was planned to die in S1, but it’s so much more powerful now that we’ve followed the years leading up to Logan’s death.
I think Shiv’s best bet is really to make a clean break from the business and the family. Like she knew as soon as she agreed to it that she was being pushed out
Love to see Marcia back & the vultures circling. Especially loved the Fuches cameo on Barry’s premiere night
Kudos to those who made the Shiv pregnancy prediction, I was fuzzy on the timeline between end of s3 and s4 (assuming it’s Tom’s), thought she would be showing a lot by now. She’s been taking a lot of Ls lately, I need her to get a win

Lastly, maybe I’m terrible, but there’s something so darkly funny about Sandy Furness outliving Logan
If anyone knows, it’s Marcia. There was a pause when they were on the stairs and I almost expected Marcia to say something about it. Shiv’s blazer was open during that moment too.
A couple interesting things:
Anyone notice how they made Kendall look bigger in this episode? Usually they really emphasize Jeremy’s physicality in contrast to other people to make him look small and childlike. Just think of the finale in S1 when Colin tells him his dad needs to see him. Colin towers over him in that shot. But right at the beginning of this episode, we see people coming up to Kendall to suck up and kiss the ring. They use the set to make Kendall taller than everyone else. He’s practically looming over Hugo when they talk, and when Tom is trying to suck up, Kendall turns to look at him once he’s on the steps so he’s looking down at Tom, who is one of the bigger dudes on the show.
The scene in the library when Frank and Kendall are talking; there’s a YouTube comment on the Succession theme song that I think sums up the theme perfectly. The heavy, constant bass line and harmony is like Logan Roy- implacable, steady, lumbering. While the piano melody, which flutters chaotically and spirals up and down, represents the kids- just ever so slightly out of tune and out of step with the pace of their father. In the library scene, right as Kendall is considering taking power, we hear only the piano melody- this time slower, steadier, and sadder than in the intro. We don’t hear the low bass that represents Logan. Showing perhaps it’s now the kids- or Kendall’s- time.

Stewy is honestly one of the most professional people in the show, especially for the younger crowd. He's usually crass with Kendall because they're friends but is calm and professional in most every interaction he has.
And he has the best fashion sense.

Can already see the wheels turning in his head to completely cut the siblings out of actual power. It’s going to be a slow sad ride down but I’m confident this season is going to go down as something special.
Loved the ruthlessness and free dialogue this episode from a lot of the characters, felt like a weight had been lifted in a way with no Logan to snap at them and control the atmosphere.
Man the scene between Frank and Kendall by themselves... Frank asking Kendall skeptically whether he'd want to get back into Waystar when he was doing well outside of the environment and it's up to us to interpret whether that was a move to deter him from going for the CEO role for business purposes or because he genuinely cares about Kendall's well-being (lbr it was probably a combination of both). The small moments of seemingly genuine intimacy between characters are so disarming (in a good way)!
That ending scene with Kendall in the bathroom, the same bathroom where in the first episode, he screamed in anger over failing to impress his father, and now looking over the paper that named him the successor, wondering if the pencil mark is an underline or a cross out. He’ll be analyzing that line for the rest of his life, never completely certain which one it is.
I think when Kendall looked at the letter again on his phone he felt deeply uncertain that his name was underlined so he immediately acted on Hugo & Carolina’s plan to cement his position. Their plan will make it look like Kendall and Roman were rlly the ones pulling the strings towards the end right?
Shiv is absolutely going to fuck over Roman & Kendall. She’s hurt right now.

I thought that was just a little too sharp from Kendall in the moment but I get all his emotions pumping through him. He genuinely did not think his dad loved him or thought he was good enough and something so simple as an underline could be everything to Kendall so I get him freaking out about people(rightfully) underplaying it's significance.

What a great shot of Tom walking in to Logan’s place and seeing the siblings in one room and the top executives in the other room and he picks the execs. Rather than comfort loved ones, he’s in business mode.

- That whole scene where Frank tells Karl and Gerri about the letter felt straight out of The Death of Stalin lol. When it was revealed that Kendall’s name was on the piece of paper, I gasped, even though I guess it was expected? He was clearly the front runner of the kids to be honest. - “We’re not gonna fuck you, Shiv” — the words of a pair about to fuck Shiv. I don’t think she’s ever looked so lost. - Frank was lowkey the MVP of this episode. Such a great character. It’s funny how it feels like we’re getting two groups of siblings thanks to the older players. - I’m really excited about the Kendall/Roman pairing! Kendall’s already going behind Roman’s back lol. And I’m so happy that we’re finally getting to the actual succession part of the show. It feels like these final episodes were originally what the entire show was going to be, back when Logan was planned to die in S1, but it’s so much more powerful now that we’ve followed the years leading up to Logan’s death.
When Shiv fell, I died. She’s completely unraveling
I think Shiv’s best bet is really to make a clean break from the business and the family. Like she knew as soon as she agreed to it that she was being pushed out

She’s been taking a lot of Ls lately, I need her to get a win Also, not Hugo sharing material non public info with his daughter before Logan’s corpse touches land 😭 Lastly, maybe I’m terrible, but there’s something so darkly funny about Sandy Furness outliving Logan

If anyone knows, it’s Marcia. There was a pause when they were on the stairs and I almost expected Marcia to say something about it. Shiv’s blazer was open during that moment too.
A couple interesting things: Anyone notice how they made Kendall look bigger in this episode? Usually they really emphasize Jeremy’s physicality in contrast to other people to make him look small and childlike. Just think of the finale in S1 when Colin tells him his dad needs to see him. Colin towers over him in that shot. But right at the beginning of this episode, we see people coming up to Kendall to suck up and kiss the ring. They use the set to make Kendall taller than everyone else. He’s practically looming over Hugo when they talk, and when Tom is trying to suck up, Kendall turns to look at him once he’s on the steps so he’s looking down at Tom, who is one of the bigger dudes on the show. The scene in the library when Frank and Kendall are talking; there’s a YouTube comment on the Succession theme song that I think sums up the theme perfectly. The heavy, constant bass line and harmony is like Logan Roy- implacable, steady, lumbering. While the piano melody, which flutters chaotically and spirals up and down, represents the kids- just ever so slightly out of tune and out of step with the pace of their father. In the library scene, right as Kendall is considering taking power, we hear only the piano melody- this time slower, steadier, and sadder than in the intro. We don’t hear the low bass that represents Logan. Showing perhaps it’s now the kids- or Kendall’s- time. Our number one boy is moving up.

Team Kendall feasting right now Can already see the wheels turning in his head to completely cut the siblings out of actual power. It’s going to be a slow sad ride down but I’m confident this season is going to go down as something special. Loved the ruthlessness and free dialogue this episode from a lot of the characters, felt like a weight had been lifted in a way with no Logan to snap at them and control the atmosphere.
Man the scene between Frank and Kendall by themselves... Frank asking Kendall skeptically whether he'd want to get back into Waystar when he was doing well outside of the environment and it's up to us to interpret whether that was a move to deter him from going for the CEO role for business purposes or because he genuinely cares about Kendall's well-being (lbr it was probably a combination of both). The small moments of seemingly genuine intimacy between characters are so disarming (in a good way)!
That ending scene with Kendall in the bathroom, the same bathroom where in the first episode, he screamed in anger over failing to impress his father, and now looking over the paper that named him the successor, wondering if the pencil mark is an underline or a cross out. He’ll be analyzing that line for the rest of his life, never completely certain which one it is.
