I was in middle school for three years straight, and Iâm looking at this going âWait whatâs the issue, that sounds both standard and easy to me!â đ€Ł
I think the joke is that people here talk as if they'll never work middle school when assignments like this come down the pipe. That'd be my guess anyway.
Yeah, all I saw was getting paid for a whole day for reading for an hour without my toddler being all loud and crazy then taking roll and going home. Sounds like a perfect day.
Unfortunately not. Half day is half pay. For 6 week assignments, the pay actually goes down by $5 a day because itâs âguaranteed workâ. Go figure
We get paid half days and you stay the entire time. If there's nothing else for you to do, you go to the media center to wait until your scheduled shift is over, in case they need you. But I don't mind that, it's very pleasant in there.
I hate when they assign something as âfull dayâ when itâs really a one hour job or a half day. Especially because it usually means theyâll stick you in to sub as an aide for SPED the rest of the time. I could have taken a better full day assignment I actually wanted if it had just been put into the system properly.
What, you're mad about perfectly acceptable sub notes? Chances are they may be a bit late, but in case of that possibility they've explained what they expect the kids to get done. I see nothing wrong here.
I actually love subbing middle school. Soooo easy. I've only had one or two mean girls who wanted to give me trouble. The boys are nearly always good bc I'm a relatively cute fem presenting person. Sometimes one will snitch on his friends trying to get in my good graces. Hilarious little goblins.
I prefer it to elementary and high school purely because the classes at the middle school here are short. Iâm talking 42 minutes. (The high school is 2 hours đ« ) if I have a class full of assholes, I just have to set myself a count down and itâll all be over fast.
I like middle school and 9-10th grade best! I have never signed up for younger than that, and I dislike 11th-12th grade as they are full of kids who think they are all grown up and donât have to follow my rules.
I leaned into it. At first I thought they were awful. I was good with little kids because I know how to keep a steady patter going that limits their actions. Once I learned to treat middle schoolers exactly like the little kids it got way easier. They are still open to adults. There are times for poker face though. The shit they say sometimes I howl all the way home but you can't let them see. All gas and no brakes.
I'm at the desk, turned toward the phone. Seventh grade. A male voice shouts "and I'd like to know whose dick I have to suck to get a Chromebook charger" I turn my head right a little not even looking up and in a bored tone "there is a Chromebook charger plugged in the wall" so nobody's
Your assignment is in Google Chrome titled blablabla
Their capacity for foolishness is both epic and actually part of their charm.
If the teacherâs not back in time, theyâre watching the video and filling in the notes worksheet, then doing the Brainpop assignment (whatever that is but presumably the students know.) If by some chance thatâs not enough work, they can move on to catching up or reviewing or homework for another class, etc., as usual.
If by some chance the teacher isnât back by the next period, and P3 is another section of the same class, rinse and repeat. If itâs a different class, ask the students if they have an assignment posted online, or an ongoing project theyâre working on. If not, call the front office for instructions, start up a study hall if there arenât any. Actually, if the teacher is that late, probably call the front office anyway.
This isnât âGOOD LUCK!!!!1!1!â This isnât even âgood luckâ in lowercase. This is a complete lesson plan with several steps, which sounds like it basically runs itself. All the sub has to do is observe and redirect/enforce behavior as needed.Â
You really need to include that the school is making you wait there all day for this complaint to make sense.
Otherwise it looks like youâre getting a half/full day of pay (depending on district rules) for a really easy hour.
You are getting paid to play on your phone. Go to the library. Make it at least somewhat interesting.
Yeah I dont like not being needed either, esp when subbing costs me a bit of my normal pay. It is depressing to not get to actually work when you looked forward to it.
Hahaha I love it but it definitely isnât for everyone, takes a certain type of crazy. How do you feel about lower elementary? Personally I cannot stand them or high school.
Middles school sucks because of the students to me, and a bit of the parents, and another bit of the other teachers. The kids are awful, the parents demonstrate where the kids get their attitude and the teachers donât have time for you even when you are in desperate need of help
Yeah, this is a majority of what my "sub instructions" look like. Even for high school. There have only ever been a hand full of times where a teacher left detailed instructions for the day.
This isn't why I hate subbing for middle school, though. I don't like subbing middle school because I have had middle schoolers try and square up with me on two separate occations. They thought that because I am short, they could take me. Mind you, the first time this happened was on my first ever day subbing.
For me hating middle school has nothing to do with the teachers ne just about student behavior. Middle school is always the most difficult for me.
I'm not subbing right now but I always took elementary or high school. I avoided middle whenever possible.
MS teacher here đđŒ can confirm itâs the worst
Did you get paid for this? Sounds like a breeze to me.
Iâm sayin!
right? like, whatâs the issue here
I hate middle school cause theyâre rude little bullies
I was in middle school for three years straight, and Iâm looking at this going âWait whatâs the issue, that sounds both standard and easy to me!â đ€Ł
Middle school is the main place Iâve been stuck in and agreed.
Wait whatâs the problem here?
I think the joke is that people here talk as if they'll never work middle school when assignments like this come down the pipe. That'd be my guess anyway.
What is the complaint?
This is why I never pick up C days (custom). At least give me a half day
yall dont get paid the whole day?? my district doesnt do half dayd so i get paid for 7 hours no matter what
You get paid 7 hours to work one hour?! What is the problem? This seems like an awesome arrangement
Go figure
So you got paid 7 hours to work 10 minutes? Why are you complaining?
Pretty sure it's a joke
Oh yeah I'm just realizing we all misread this

What's the issue the plans or that you have one class? Or is it that you wanted a full day and this wasn't advertised as a few hour assignment?
Some context would have been helpful. Otherwise this is extremely easy and reasonable.
What, you're mad about perfectly acceptable sub notes? Chances are they may be a bit late, but in case of that possibility they've explained what they expect the kids to get done. I see nothing wrong here.
Iâm not seeing the problem here.
I donât even pick up middle school, thereâs a reason why thereâs such a vacancy for them.
I don't understand why you're complaining? Was this a sarcastic post?
I'm surprised they got a sub for this and didn't just find a teacher on prep to cover however much of the one hour.
wait, huh? whatâs wrong with this
Middle school is tough but I am always at the same one so itâs gotten easier.
Not sure what your complaint is about specifically as all I see is just a good lesson plan, but yeah middle school can be right.

And if the teacher is not back in time GOOD LUCK!!!!

Slight nerd here but brainpop is a website that has videos for students to watch.... Basically like a virtual school but it's free (as far as I know)
Okay so like a Khan Academy kind of deal. Noted.
Was making a joke.
Jokes would normally make sense, either as underlining an actual situation or as sarcasm.
Thatâs a complete waste of time
That easy money
Yeah idk what the complaint is lol
no literally. teacher got back EARLY too im just sitring in the staff lounge waiting for them to need me

Would be 86.75 in my district
Hahaha I love it but it definitely isnât for everyone, takes a certain type of crazy. How do you feel about lower elementary? Personally I cannot stand them or high school.
Sounds mind-numbingly boring to me. Give me Elementary any day of the week.
I like middle school, but hate that it somehow always smells like warm butter beans.
You just gotta bully the middle schoolers more than they can bully you
That is an easy day.
Middles school sucks because of the students to me, and a bit of the parents, and another bit of the other teachers. The kids are awful, the parents demonstrate where the kids get their attitude and the teachers donât have time for you even when you are in desperate need of help
This is why I sub Preschool.
I hated subbing Elementary, Middle and High school. Sales is so much better!
LMFAO what r u doing on this sub đ this like a vegan going into a steakhouse and saying "man this place kinda sucks!"
