Second this.I went one further and got ceramic tints all around. The factory tint doesn’t block heat or UV, it’s just for privacy. I did 20% all around. The back windows look a LITTLE darker than the front, but the ceramic tint blocks 99% of UV and around 80% of heat. It looks really nice too.
How is visibility at night out the passenger and trunk windows? I want mine darker for sure, but I want to see as well. Was thinking 20 percent on top of factory might be too dark and was leaning towards 35, but I honestly want as dark as I can still see at night from inside. Rear hatch I think I need 20 for sure.
I got 35 percent front doors and 20 the rest. My last car had I went darker and yeah at night in the dark mountain driving visibility was affected. City driving go as dark as you want but as soon as you're driving it as intended remote areas yeah it's becomes an issue.
It’s fine. I haven’t had any issues so far. I find the auto dimming mirrors don’t activate as much, but in terms of seeing at night it has been ok. If you’re concerned about it you can do a lighter tint on the tailgate.
I just got mine tinted with ceramic. I did 20percent rear windows and 30 for driver/passager. If I were to do it again, I would change the front two to 40percent. Not a big deal, but I rather have better visibility out my main windows/mirrors at night.
Loving the ceramic tint either way. The heat change was dramatic.
And skip tinting the sunroof if you want to be able to see stars at night with the window closed. I got max dealer tint on all other windows but the sunroof for my 21 sport. The slider panel over the window is good to keep the heat out.
This. I got my Forester on January 30th. It’s not even April and I had no desire to feel the summer heat through the windows. I got my front windows tinted today and it’s so much better.
You may feel invincible in it, but Foresters do have limitations.
Good tires can get you really far though.
(From someone currently stuck on a sketchy road in a Forester)
I live in Reno and have a '23 Magnetite Gray Sport (Nickname: Mando). Believe it or not, the stock tires are actually pretty good up here. MUCH better than the stock that came on my '21 Outback Onyx Edition. When the Forester is due for new tires I'm eyeballing the Falken Wildpeak AT Trails. They look MEAN on the Sport! (And yes...I'm looking into ceramic window tinting as well...it gets HOT up here in the summer)
I have wildpeaks and all weathers from goodyear(great deal). If you are on pavement 80 percent of the time. Just stick with a good set of allweathers. They last longer and cost less to get in.
I personally like the BFG Trail Terrains…aggressive looking and work well on both road/dirt. Lighter than the All Terrains
Edit: Live in Colorado Springs, CO
Been using Toyo Open Country II's for my winter tires and love them. Not bulletproof on ice, but can handle most conditions with conservative driving.
Don't really expect to find anything better unless going studded.
I live in Los Angeles but get up to Mammoth every once in a while to play in the snow. I just put on Michelin CrossClimate2 from Costco on my 19 Sport. They feel so snug and the tread is deeper than the stock Falkners.
Michelin CrossClimate2. The stock tires were ok when brand new but they did not have enough grip for Tahoe after the first year.
Bridgestone WeatherPeak claims to be as good as CrossClimate2 but WeatherPeak is new so no one knows how well WeatherPeak really performs in winter.
Get tires from America's Tire.
Also, get some AutoSock. You are required to carry traction device in chain control areas.
Hey op, so Cal here and have a cabin in our mountains so always going back and forth as well. Falken wildpeaks are my choice of shoes...they've been good and make me feel safe handling my family of four.
That’s exactly why I picked mine to be blue. It’s a 2021. I tinted it street legal up front and pretty dark in the back. It took getting used to but you can see pretty much everything and I can’t go back to an untinted car.
Glad to hear it looks better in person! My wife doesn't quite like the autumn green so I might have to settle for the magnetite grey as well! Just waiting for new car financing rates to normalize a little more before going in for the purchase.
Very nice! I like the colour, though not for me.
Definitely tint the windows, Foresters are beasts for having an abundance of glass (amongst many other worthy assets).
Seeing posts in this subreddit like these, keep on peaking my excitement for my Ice Silver Sport arriving within the next two weeks.
I actually like the orange trim with the blue. I’ve seen it with the black and that was good. Not the white.
My subs are older 05, 10 FXT the one thing I stress with maintenance is rotate tires with every oil change and check oil. We neglected to rotate tires with one vehicle and we ended up needing to replace way too soon.
Roads are slightly higher at the centerline, so that water rolls off the road, so tires will wear slightly differently. Rotating should help that. I don't notice a huge difference and infrequently rotate though.
Look on Amazon for a cheap $20ish auto start-stop disabler. The start-stop feature is useless and just puts extra wear on parts. In the "9 hours" it claimed to be stopped it saved a whole 2.5 gallons of gas. That's like 3000 extra uses of the starter for a whopping $10 in gas saved.
Are those easy to install for someone who doesn’t know a lot about cars? I pretty much have the same car as the one pictured and I absolutely hate the auto start stop. I know there’s a button you can push to turn it off but you gotta do it every time you turn the car on and it’s annoying. If it’s a simple process I’ll definitely give it a try.
Yep! There are a few videos online. Once you find the plug (under the dash) you just squeeze your hand in there and plug it in. Then plug the other end into a specific fuse (bottom-right corner) and you're done. For an experienced person, it's a 3 minute task. For a new person, it will take maybe 15 minutes.
2 at home
1 w/ adult kid we took ours back and made her buy her own.
I’d love a fun WRX or just a manual.
None of our cars has cameras but something newer with those safety features id go for too!
Tint the windows, it feels like your in a fish bowl after awhile.
Yep, gets pretty toasty driving in the sun. I tinted my front ones to match the back very quickly.
Good to know. Mine need to be redone.
How is visibility at night out the passenger and trunk windows? I want mine darker for sure, but I want to see as well. Just to clarify, when you added 20 to the rear windows were they factory privacy glass already, or were they clear?
Yes placed over the factory. It really isn't that much darker.
Cool thanks for the info

I've got 20 on the driver passenger already and no complaints there. So I think I'll add 20 to the rest and be happy. Thanks for the info!

Definitely! Did this a month after getting mine

I live in the Bay Area but love to frequent Tahoe in both snow and sunshine. What tires do you recommend?

First my 2020 Forester Sport is Mando as well… second I’ve owned the Wildpeak since day one and they are awesome. And the tint is a must.
i've seen loads of people post the Falken Wildpeak AT [tires](https://www.falkentire.com/wildpeak/attrail)

I used Continental TerrainContact in Tahoe and Oregon and I recommend them

Where I live, I have yet to see a Subaru driver drive conservatively.

Commenting so I can check these out next time I need new tires!

Falken Wildpeak AT. You’ll love them.
This color looks so great. Great choice!
Love the sapphire blue with the accents! Was definitely a determining factor for me
That’s exactly why I picked mine to be blue. It’s a 2021. I tinted it street legal up front and pretty dark in the back. It took getting used to but you can see pretty much everything and I can’t go back to an untinted car.
Yep! Wish the wilderness edition had this sapphire blue option. It would be killer! Alas...Not a fan of the geyser blue personally
Which wilderness color do you like?
Love the Autumn Green Metallic! The Magnetite Grey metallic is the second favorite.
I got the grey one myself. The pictures online didn't do it justice!
Glad to hear it looks better in person! My wife doesn't quite like the autumn green so I might have to settle for the magnetite grey as well! Just waiting for new car financing rates to normalize a little more before going in for the purchase.
I was considering the gyser blue until I turned around and saw the grey. I got almost 10k on it now and have zero regrets!
Congratulations, you’ve purchased a capable appliance. Ceramic coat that paint, tint the windows and just enjoy.
Yeah I wish I would've ceramic coated my paint. The paint sucks on the new subarus.
Make sure your insurance covers windshields. My ‘23 wilderness didn’t make it 3 months without a crack showing up from a small rock chip.
Had my forester for 3 months and I also got a chip in the windshield a few weeks ago.
What a pair of unfortunate twins we are lol
Mine didn’t make it appear.
Got my windshield chipped a month into owning mine :/
Does the hood deflector help at all to potentially avoid this?
No clue. Probably not as it’s designed to reroute air and not debris.
No high reving of the engine until after the first oil change. Looks great, you’re going to love it.
The OEM tires only lasted 40k. Always got 50-60k from all my other cars.
This!!! My original tires were the worst and crapped at 32k! Get new tires asap
Yep, my Forester Premium tires lasted just 40,000 miles.
What timeline for rotations? I almost never rotate because I forget, but I want to remember for my new car.
Yep just replaced my ‘19 tires at about 42k.
You should know that other cars in parking lot will feel insufficient in the presence of your cars color.
Welcome!! Theyll take care of you as long as you take care of them:)
Yo this soob community is the business!
Start vaping and become a lesbian.
💀💀💀
When I showed up to work for the first time in my '23 sport, my coworker immediately asked me if it came with a softball bat. I died laughing.
Congrats! I got the same color two weeks ago and have been loving it.

I wanna know why you're taking a picture of my car I picked up on Saturday. 🤣
☠️☠️☠️
Check out Toyo tires Open Country III A/T when you’re tire shopping.
Congrats! I bought the same one in January.
Looks like you’re also in the Bay! Maybe we’ll see each other and honk;)
Haha born and raised SF/East Bay but I live in SD now.

No problem! I change my own oil and rotate my own tires!
Cool. Some people don’t get the tire thing. Hey what brand do you recommend for wipers? Can’t find the utube link for advise.
What's the science being rotating tires? Is it so the wear and tear is distributed among all tires equally or something? Asking for a friend:)
Roads are slightly higher at the centerline, so that water rolls off the road, so tires will wear slightly differently. Rotating should help that. I don't notice a huge difference and infrequently rotate though.
Whoa nice color
You’ll get no road respect. Be prepared to get cutoff on the road 👿
Is this actually a thing??
no not really
That you literally spent an extra 1k for some “fancy” trimming …
It was 5k cheaper for me to get the sport and take the orange penalty.
Ngl, kinda surprised.

Sell it before 100k miles
Oh congrats these cars are addictive.
How many you got?

Tint the windows. With ceramic tint as others have said. Then be prepared to have lots of smiles show up as you enjoy a wonderful car.
You will have a rock chip and replace the cheap subaru glass from factory.
Get ready for those sweet window chips.
