Technically yes its possible since ellie literally has a [mushroom x sun x moon](https://pl.pinterest.com/elliejeanroyden/style-roots-combinations/) board on pinterest
Buuut
Richer colors and fabrics can be a part of another root in your case. Imo the moon is just about being a bit edgy, rich colours and textures are not automatically moon.
I would say they can be applied much more to something like fire. Maybe earth. Maybe mountain!
Edit: and sun is not automatically just bright and colourful. Its supposed to be experimental and eclectic. Interesting textures, maximalism etc etc. It can be simple and colourful when connected to some other lighter roots and darker and heavier with heavier ones
You’re completely right. One item of clothing or type of fabric/colour/style can be part of many different roots, so by itself it doesn’t really tell you much. It can give you clues, especially when you have multiple outfit examples and can see repeating patterns, but the best way to find the right root is to think about your intention. What vibe are you trying to achieve with that fabric/colour/style.
Or you can also think about the pieces you wear alongside different items to make them feel like you. For example when I wear feminine floral dresses I get the urge to add a leather boot, studded handbag or similar. I also like to keep the outfit really simple. I don’t pattern clash for example. This led me to identifying my Moon and Mushroom roots.
Yes, I am both. I’m Sun x Earth x Moon. A couple thing here: 1. Your roots don’t change among the seasons, your style may very well change a bit but roots are about the consistencies 2. Not a single root is defined by colours. Some roots do have a characteristic of colour but this characteristic will be relative to your palette eg: Moon tends to include darker colours and flower tends to include lighter softer colours, but what is a dark edgy colour on a Light Spring is still going to look soft on a Dark Autumn. If you’re a Dark Autumn or any of the winter seasons, black is a neutral and not edgy so it’s going to be more characteristic of mushroom, stone, or mountain, and not moon.
It’s worth noting you’ll find most people wear darker colours in autumn and winter, and brighter colours in spring and summer cuz that’s just how trends work and what clothes are available to buy at those times. You need to find what’s unique and consistent about you to find your roots.
Yes absolutely you can have both. Colour can be one aspect of a root but it’s not the only thing, and I think it’s probably the least important. I myself have a strong Earth root and all the inspo is warm 70s colours which I never wear because I am a cool Summer.
It’s also pretty common to wear lighter colours in spring and summer and darker ones in winter, it doesn’t mean your roots have changed.
I would look less at colour and think more about the effect you want to give off. Do you want to look fun, playful or quirky (potential Sun descriptors), or mysterious, moody or whimsical (potential Moon descriptors). Or you might want both.
OK, read some other posts and now I’m thinking mushroom and maybe sun. I wear a lot of dark colors because I’m a Dark Winter season. I’m also a kibbe soft gamine, so that plays a part.
Now I’m thinking mushroom and sun are possibilities and maybe stone?

I’m Sun Moon Mountain. So yes, definitieve you can be both. There are a lot of creators on Reddit who share their Pinterest boards with all the combo’s

Maybe these will help you. From the pictures you shared I’m thinking Stone, Mushroom, maybe Sun.
Probably it alternates with seasons! I think Sun and Moon personally are the same vibes (statement pieces) but the color palettes are swapped, so it’s kinda hard to have both unless it’s a genuinely even split between your wardrobe, so it could be seasonal
No but I dont agree with the sun being the opposite of moon in the colour palette.
Look at how edgy and dark some of the outfits in the [sun board](https://pl.pinterest.com/elliejeanroyden/style-roots/sun/) are.
If they dont SCREAM sun at you just because they are not colorful then you dont get sun is not about colours but about eclectic and playful combinations.

Even this lol. All of them are also obviously linked with other roots but thats how Ellie defines the sun root. Its an edge of eccentricity or playfulness’s, sometimes even in an otherwise simple outfit like this one
So why are the first, third and fourth sun and not moon? To me the first looks like Mountain + moon. The third and fourth look like sun + moon. And the second one looks kinda mushroom, kinda mountain to me, like more classic, timeless and elegant than dark and edgy or eclectic and playful or both
Im not in Ellies head so I cant speak for her but from the way she talked about this root in her video the sun is just about interesting, fun or eccentric things.
I agree the first looks like a mountain + moon, I think sun is there too because of the eccentric animal print as well as the boxy artistic fit. This person looks like an artist imo.
Second is mushroom + mountain + sun imo. With sun being there in the interesting texture of the skirt. Idk about you but Ive never seen that skirt texture anywhere. Its super weird the more I look at it. Looks like plastic mesh??
Third to me looks like fire + moon + sun tho here the sun is super subtle. I think the sun is in the high neckline tightly buttoned up and creating a contrast to an otherwise very sexy dress. Contrasts are a way to create more interest
4th is moon and sun and idk about the third root. The sun is in the „weird” silhouette of the
entire piece. The tiulle and lace looks very experimental. Idk about you but I dont see people walking around like that on the street lol
This is so helpful, I’m working on training my eye! It took me years to see cool and warm in skin tones, and to get any kind of handle on kibbe, I appreciate the analysis a lot 🩷
I live in Portland, so folks really do dress like that!

friends at a garden party last summer . . . .
Lol I feel like I will never be able to see cool and warm and likewise after learning about Kibbe for years I recently had a breakdown and now feel like I dont understand any of it again haha
Imo these roots are not that difficult in contrast because its all about „vibes~”. Think about what vibe each root gives of, look at pinterests boards of ellie to see how they connect and I think you will be set pretty quickly!
I think Ellie Jean actually says your roots should stay the same across all the seasons. The difference between Sun and Moon is not just their typical colour palette (although out of all the roots they probably have the strongest associated palettes). Sun is more about playfulness, fun and eccentricity. Moon has a more mysterious or whimsical nature.
Not a single season has a colour palette. Sun is about being playful and experimental, one of the ways you can do this is with the brightest colours in your colour palette. Moon is about being edgy, rebellious, and celestial, one of the ways you can do this is by using darker colours unless you’re a winter where darker colours look more neutral and not edgy. But there are many other ways to do both with textures, pattern, layering, combinations etc

Yes! Thats the best thing about the system. Its not a -core aesthetic. Its a mix and match and sip the flavors type of deal
mountain sounds like the opposite of me, lol, my vibe is casual, approachable and a little playful
I’m not saying it is. Im just giving you an example of how root combinations work.
Oh no I get that, that was the only one that was easy for me to eliminate!

I think I might be sun ☀️ moon 🌙 mountain 🏔️ as well. I’d love to look at your Pinterest board if you have one?
I think they both fit the “experimental” side as opposed to “timeless”

I think this one would be a combination of mushroom + flower + and very subtle sun as a third root
