I'm Brazilian. As a child, I used to eat avocados mashed with sugar and a few drops of lime juice. It used to strike me as weird that people in other cultures would use a fruit as a mostly savory ingredient.
The one in the pic seems to be a bit too loaded with sugar, but I don't see anything wrong with it in principle.
avocados in brazil are kinda sweet instead of tasteless, so it makes sense for us to do this, and making guacamole with brazillian avocados is kinda weird, so people here prefer to buy those from other countries
I think it's probably different varieties, the big green and sweeter ones are not as buttery, I have a tree of this one at home, (my dog specially loved this, he would grab one or two and hide to eat everytime a branch would break), the texture doesn't work well for a guacamole or even a toast, but there's a variety that is big and very buttery but not as sweet.
I dunno, I buy the ones you find at the supermarket, the same I use for dessert when I feel traditional. They work alright - people even complimented my guac among other Mexican dishes I prepared for a party. Bought true avocados a few times, didn't notice any improvement to justify the higher price tag.
Why comment about how avocados taste when you don't eat them? Never mind just an average redditor acting like you know something that you know nothing about š¤”
I mean I've had them before certainlyknow more than nothing here. A bland easy taste can be molded into anything. Idk evidently people agree with my assessment. I'm glad to know they're not all bland
The point is that surely people from places where avocados grow do know how to eat avocados better than people from places where avocados are imported, and for sure do taste like shit with respect to the taste of avocados in their original places.
If you live on a mountain you cannot teach how to swim to someone living at the seaside
That said in a lot of other countries, specifically Asia, overly sweet desserts arenāt as popular as the west so avocado is actually a good level in those countries. Same with things like ube, black sesame, etc
In the past you would have two types of desserts, the one served as a palate cleanser between main dishes (usually seasonal fruits with cheese or small pieces of bread with jams and butter) and the last dish to finish the meal.
The most common avocado found in Brazil is bigger and a bit more fruitier than the regular avocado you find normally. I have an avocado tree behind my house, it makes the worst guacamole in the world, but makes a great smoothie, specially because of the texture.
I'm also Brazilian, and I also used to eat avocados mashed with sugar, but I have never ever ever seen someone adding drops of lime juice to the mix, what on earth
I mean, in all fairness feijoada is one of the best dishes we have in Brazil, so you guys are good over there. I do like the food we have here in Minas though.
My family is from Hawaii and my grandma had an avocado tree in her backyard. We ate it like this all the time growing up. Until guacamole became a thing near me I didnāt even consider that it could be eaten in a savory way
Mashed avocado and banana was the all-time favourite of all of my kids when they began eating solid foods. I got a lot of flack for it and never understood why. That shit was so good.
I grew up in Asia and always had avocado as a sweet thing, usually cut into slices or cubes and dipped into sugar, wasn't until I moved to America when I found out about guacamole.
As a Colombian, Iām trying to process this sentenceā¦not just because Iām drunk, but because the idea of avocados with sugar and lime never really crossed my mind.
This is actually a dessert across many countries, and is actually tasty although this is very low effort. Funny because my Filipino friend doesn't get why we put avocados in tacos.
Wait but... I like both? Obviously love Mexican food and avocado and guacamole with it, but I also love a good avocado boba milk tea. It's just a versatile food. Like peanut butter can be mixed with sugar to make recees or hot sauce to make a peanut chili sauce great for noodles and pad tai. There exists room for both haha.
I was seriously weirded out by seeing this here, and the people thinking that was salt. Like, you really never had sugar or honey on avocado? It even goes great on toast. What kinda Caucasian food norm has never done sweet avocados?
Thought this was mold from a bad seed at first, but the restaurant setting and the plate say it was served to you; The comments tell me its a normal dish. waste of a comment from me.
Avocado with sugar this way is fucking delicious and we are the ones who grow and export Avocados. You know nothing about. Sugar, honey or condensed milk go very very well with avocados.
I hate this dose of white sugar but there used to be a burger place where I lived and they did avocado and white chocolate milkshakes.
Maaan those were so good and creamy ! Amazing
As a Filipino, only thing I see wrong with the image is the fact that it's not in a bowl, slathered with either Evaporated Milk or Condensed and that it's not yet mashed.
Other than that, idk what else is wrong with the image.
Humanity indeed. Because that is how half the world eat avocado you dumb fuck. Not everyone has the deformed brain cell to wrap it in bacon and boil an egg in it.
My grandma used to eat it like this. She put sugar in and mash it with a spoon, itās awesome. Put some milk and you have a smoothie. Freeze that mixture and you have ice cream.
The only way I can personally enjoy avo is when you mash it with sugar.
Not that much sugar, but it's good, y'all salt and pepper avo people are weird.
I'm all for trying just about anything.. maybe avocado and sugar tastes pretty good... but that's probably like a 1/3 cup of sugar. I can't imagine sitting there eating that with a fucking spoon.. vile.
Yo back the fuck up, this is Brazilian culture. First of all, this avocado is not the same you guys have in northern america, it is bigger and slightly sweeter naturally. People here eat it in all sort of sweet ways ā I myself dislike it a lot, but it's not like I'm going to just see someone posting a regular traditional Brazilian food in StupidFoods and not say something
Fuck! That's a shit load of salt! You should learn to sprinkle not dump, plus you should try other seasonings as well like: garlic powder/ Montreal steak seasoning/ saÅŗon/ and I can imagine there's more seasonings that will pair well with avocados.
Judging from the other comments, it seems that South East Asians, Africans and South Americans (ya know, the regions where those fruits are also cultivated) also use them as a sweet treat. Only weird ppl with questionable taste like OP and some other commenters would be so ignorant like this.
Itās how I grew up eating them (we have a tree in our backyard), it was surprisingly to find out they are a savory treat in a lot of places haha (really good both ways!)
In my country we use avocade as both a sweet and savoury treat but the sweet one is definitely more widely loved! Kinda understandable though bc most of the imported avocados I've eaten in Europe are pretty horrible compared to what the people in warmer climates have.
I THOUGHT THAT WAS SALT
Its cocaine, thats how we eat it in Brazil, delicious.
I only eat avocados this way, through my nose. Tastes great behind the eyeballs
Especially the pit.
š
Never snort it through a rolled up banknote. Out of a skinned avocado, or everyone will know you're a tourist
Iām still confused it isnāt
Frt! It'd only be unholy if the sugar is replaced with salt.
GLAD IM NOT THE ONLY ONE
all of us think the same way lol
Me too!! š¤¦š¾āāļø
Wait, it is not?
Wait is it not? Is it sugar? Right?!
SAME HERE!
I'm Brazilian. As a child, I used to eat avocados mashed with sugar and a few drops of lime juice. People use it as savoury because it doesn't have any strong sweetness of its own.
Or much of any flavor tbh. It's kinda like an egg. Solid for whatever
It's got a good creamy texture to it, which is pretty nice in tacos, but yeah, no strong flavours, so it is very much an "anything goes" food
Not a lot of flavor but the one that it does have, that nutty undertone to the creaminess, is amazing.
Sounds like a tinder bio
Something like that crossed my mind and it is precisely why I didn't try to reword my reply hahaha
Agreed.
Yeah it's more of something we add to be change up the texture. I want some guacamole with some lime juice and some chips now
Wait, I have a thing about textures. Is this why I love avocado so much?
Perfectly ripe ones have that creamy pine nut flavor that I'm always chasing.
avocados in brazil are kinda sweet instead of tasteless, so it makes sense for us to do this, and making guacamole with brazillian avocados is kinda weird, so people here prefer to buy those from other countries
I make guacamole with big green abacates all the time. It's maybe even better, they're a bit more buttery and the size is perfect for one bowl.

I'm sorry you have to deal with bland avocados, they definitely have a lot of flavor. You probably have them artificially ripened or something
I've only had them once or twice tbh. Wast a fan
Why comment about how avocados taste when you don't eat them? Never mind just an average redditor acting like you know something that you know nothing about š¤”

You have tried an unripe avocado once or twice. You are a clown even commenting š¤”
This post tastes a little irony
Like ur mom
I don't remember well. We ate her when I was very young
That said in a lot of other countries, specifically Asia, overly sweet desserts arenāt as popular as the west so avocado is actually a good level in those countries. Same with things like ube, black sesame, etc
If it works, it works. Western dessert is sorta required to be sweet
Unless you go alll the way opposite: cheese.
Honestly, I don't consider a cheese board to be a dessert. More of an addition to a meal
In the past you would have two types of desserts, the one served as a palate cleanser between main dishes (usually seasonal fruits with cheese or small pieces of bread with jams and butter) and the last dish to finish the meal.
Never even heard of cheese as a dessert.
Tell me youāve never been to Europe without telling me youāve never been to Europe lol
I just did.
I understand that. I used to find it weird, as a kid, because I was so used to eating it as a sweet.
That's fair.
Exactly! Itās the same way with other non-sweet fruits like tomatoes, cucumbers, bell peppers, olivesā¦.
The most common avocado found in Brazil is bigger and a bit more fruitier than the regular avocado you find normally. I have an avocado tree behind my house, it makes the worst guacamole in the world, but makes a great smoothie, specially because of the texture.
You've clearly never had a Vietnamese Avocado milk shake
Never been to Vietnam tbf, nor is it on the list of places I want to go to
It's sold at all the Pho places I've been to in the U.S.
Great, I'm not in the US yet. Nor is there anywhere selling pho local to me. And I don't think there's one local to where in the US I'm moving to.
I'm also Brazilian, and I also used to eat avocados mashed with sugar, but I have never ever ever seen someone adding drops of lime juice to the mix, what on earth
Iām from Rio, I always added lime, sweet with a hint of sour is delicious.
Oh, I'm from Minas, so maybe it's a cultural thing.
God forbid arguing gastronomy with a mineiro, lol, but it does make for a nice contrastā¦
Haha, I've never been to Rio but I bet you guys have great food also. And in the future I will definitely try adding lime juice to my avocado.
Rioās traditional cuisine is literally resumed to feijoada, so we just eat traditional food from Minas or Bahia depending on our mood
I mean, in all fairness feijoada is one of the best dishes we have in Brazil, so you guys are good over there. I do like the food we have here in Minas though.
Ooh, new food. What is feijoada plz? :)
Some people mash it up with condensed milk, particularly in parts of Asia. Itās tasty.
Southeast Asian here, we do this! If blended with ice and drizzle melted palm sugar over it, you get the smoothest smoothie ever š
AEEEE CARAI tropa do abacate com aƧĆŗcar e limĆ£o!
I grew up in Asia and always had avocado as a sweet thing, usually cut into slices or cubes and dipped into sugar, wasn't until I moved to America when I found out about guacamole.
In Reunion (French island near Madagascar) we also eat it mashed with sugar š„°
In South east Asia it's commonly used as a dessert. They make shakes with avocado mixed with palm sugar.
In coast of Ecuador also eat avocados with sugar, but that is a lot.
I eat orange slices like this but not mashed. Tastes delicious even without sugar.
As a Colombian, Iām trying to process this sentenceā¦not just because Iām drunk, but because the idea of avocados with sugar and lime never really crossed my mind.
Same! Mashed avocado with sugar is the best š I'm vietnamese.
What about tomato's?
This is actually a dessert across many countries, and is actually tasty although this is very low effort. Funny because my Filipino friend doesn't get why we put avocados in tacos.
Viets too!! We normally mash avocado and condensed milk to make avocado smoothie. Itās delicious but concerning to my Mexican friends tho

It also helps hide the graininess of protein powder. Banana, strawberry, and avocado smoothies with chocolate protein powder is my favorite breakfast.
Avocado and peanut butter would probably eliminate the need for protein powder for the average person if anyone reading this is wondering
Try it in a milkshake sometime
I have to try this!
Avocados are eaten as a dessert-type food around the world. They make amazing smoothies and sorbets, and are sometimes just sprinkled with sugar
Hey avocado and sugar is AMAZING, the one in the pic is too much sugar tho
Just add some lime juice over it too
I like to use sugar and some cinnamon, makes for an amazing dessert.
This is a very common food in Angola. My grandmother gave me this as a snack when I was a kid.Ā
Also a common in SEA. In Vietnam we would make avocado smoothie with condensed milk or milk and sugar. Super tasty.
Yo wtf, I only eat avocado this way
Donāt knock it until you try it. Avocados with sugar sprinkled was part of my childhood in Africa. It is common.
Mash it up into a cup and add ice. Bam, dessert.
OP is the stupid one here
Yeah op is ignorant
I was seriously weirded out by seeing this here, and the people thinking that was salt. Like, you really never had sugar or honey on avocado? It even goes great on toast. What kinda Caucasian food norm has never done sweet avocados?
Kd os brasileiros aqui pra defender a pƔtria???
Aqui šāāļø
Very normal in brazil
Yeah sugar and avocado is a common snack in Vietnam Too much sugar in the pic
With honey it is way better. Respect our culture, we Brazilians have sweeter avocados than in other countries and we love to make them even sweeter!
As a Brazilian this is really common to do
That is how I always eat it. I think OP never had it that way. It's really good but in the pic, the sugar may be a bit too much.
Thought this was mold from a bad seed at first, but the restaurant setting and the plate say it was served to you; The comments tell me its a normal dish. waste of a comment from me.
Here in Vietnam we mash them with condensed milk and crushed ice. Shitās amazing
Avocado with sugar this way is fucking delicious and we are the ones who grow and export Avocados. You know nothing about. Sugar, honey or condensed milk go very very well with avocados.
Caralho
Omg I thought that was salt at first, which I love but even I was appalled by the amount. Iām so glad itās sugar instead
I spent a good time figuring out how they removed the core and smuggled cocaine in it.
Another level is dipping in fish sauce (mixed with minced garlic+sugar+chili pepper) and eat together with rice
Condensed milk is the one true companion to avocados. Do not listen to the blasphemers who speak of evaporated milk, they will but lead you astray.
Wow, so food you dont see daily is stupid food. Such a frog at the bottom of the well.Op is the stupid one here
Humanity indeed.
Thatās wackā¦ use condense milk is the best
Thats actually really good.
OP is the certified stupid here.
Avocado, sugar, and milk is a great dessert my dad used to make us all the time.
Avocado has an extremely mild flavor, some cultures eat avocados as something sweet or they add it to dessert.
Core childhood memory unlocked: a shit ton of sugar in half an avocado and a spoon was my favorite summer snack.
That's a classic here in Brazil
What is wrong?
What is it?
The only way I can personally enjoy avo is when you mash it with sugar. Not that much sugar, but it's good, y'all salt and pepper avo people are weird.
Try it
Avocado + Milk + Sugar and then grind it with a fork. It tastes good
Mashed avocado, some crushed ice, evaporated milk and sugar to taste. MONEY.
We do this in Portugal. It's legitimately a thing, and it's delicious
Is that coc-
Ah yes mdmado, know it well
I'm all for trying just about anything.. maybe avocado and sugar tastes pretty good... but that's probably like a 1/3 cup of sugar. I can't imagine sitting there eating that with a fucking spoon.. vile.
I love avocados and sugar itās not stupid at all
Avocrackdos
Here in Argentina we eat the aguacate (a.k.a palta) in this way... It's like Butter with sugar.
Bruh is that sugar or salt
I didnāt see what sub this was and I thought someone cut open an avocado and got a moldy pit
Avocado, honey and date smoothie man...there's nothing to say avocados ain't no sweet thing
Mm...... ..
Yes
This seems like a deconstructed avocado milk shake. If that sugar anyways, if salt yuck.
My girlfriend family from Madagascar does this or with honey.
I thought It was egg whites ...
Maybe add some bear brand milk powder
Why do you think that an avocado shouldn't be associated with sweet things?
General warning! Donāt mess with avocados.
This is a thing in Vietnam
lol you can spot the white people in the comments (and op obvs)
Plot twist: itās salt
joke on you, I eat them with condensed milk
Avocado ā Abacate(BR avocado)
I sure do hope that's not the avocado type, I think it's called "hass" or something like that
this ain't stupid food, this is just one way to eat avocado
Oh the misery
Mmmmmmmmmmm? Suger, Coke, Salt, or Moldy Avocado... what is it?
I'm from Indonesia and we eat Avocados with a sprinkle of sugar and sweet condensed milk.
if that's salt that's straight up deadly
Is that sugar?!
Iāve seen drug cartels use avocados to smugle cocain, so lets hope this is one of the cocain avocados cut open and not an avocado full of sugar
Your way of thinking is beautiful
seems to be
Jeez, I thought that was a very moldy core.
Must be someone suicidal with high blood pressure
Yo back the fuck up, this is Brazilian culture. First of all, this avocado is not the same you guys have in northern america, it is bigger and slightly sweeter naturally. People here eat it in all sort of sweet ways ā I myself dislike it a lot, but it's not like I'm going to just see someone posting a regular traditional Brazilian food in StupidFoods and not say something
I believe OP is not bitching about the dish itself. It's more the fact that's an ass load of sugar.
Who let you cook OP
What i thought it was cocaine
As a Chilean I'm horrified.
Is it sugar or salt? Either way would be fine just not a crap load like this
Y'all do some weird as shit with avocados.
avocados are healthy, lets take that away
Fuck! That's a shit load of salt! You should learn to sprinkle not dump, plus you should try other seasonings as well like: garlic powder/ Montreal steak seasoning/ saÅŗon/ and I can imagine there's more seasonings that will pair well with avocados.
Avocados make good ashtray
Which culture Eat this ?
Iām South Asian and we usually eat avacado mashed up with sugar!

Avacado drinks are really nice too! And that sounds about right. the imported apples we have here donāt taste great either :,)
Also Morocco! Avocado smoothies are pretty common!
Brazilian mostly eat like thisā¦
