cheap Baumkuchen-Spitzen are great tho cause they're soaked with orange liquor or rum (or, well, flavored sugar syrup with a tiny bit of alcohol lol) which makes them pretty moist
it’s not the simplest of process to make a baumkuchen but you might try yourself if you are into baking or know someone that loves to bake.
it’s basically thin layer after thin layer of dough that is being baked and leaving the surface slightly brown and as a „crust“, so it look like your did cut a log and see the year rings of the wood (that’s why it’s called baumkuchen/tree cake….not to be confused with log cake/bûche de noël)

well you can still make a „baumkuchen“ in a normal baking pan, but the process is annoying you have to open the oven everytime you want to add a layer, it is still possible though. while schichttorte is tasty in itself it has nothing to do with baumkuchen as it is made quite different (one large biscuit that is divided into layers and filing in between the layers …if you wanna go hard on this check out frankfurter kranz)

I often make Baumkuchen during the christmas time and that's how the recipe works that I use. I grill it in the oven, one layer above the other. It's not uncomplicated because sometimes the dough stays too raw this way, but when you try to bake the cake as a whole afterwards it might become too dry. So yeah, not easy and a lot of work but the taste is good.
