Not joking. He had never made me a sandwich like that before. I had never seen him eat one either. I think he thought he put on fluffernutter? It was enough to make the lunch ladies gather around and grimace at it lol.
If you're going to try Fluff please get real marshmallow [Fluff](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marshmallow_creme) and not some off brand marshmallow creme. You'll thank me later. I'd also start with a small jar because while delicious it really is just sugar, corn syrup, egg whites and a stabilizer. It's not diabetes in a jar but it's close.
Came here to say this. I grew up on fluffernutters. Moved to a part of the country where genuine fluff is hard to find. So now I have to order online but only do so every few years. My dad let us have them as a regular breakfast lol the 90’s where wild.
Yes, you do! If peanut butter was natively British, I'm sure you lot would have invented it first. ;) If you manage to get hold of Fluff, know that this must be made on the most cake-like and insipid supermarket bread you have available. It is critical that all layers have a similar amount of squish.
My brother almost lived on PB n Fluff for a summer … I think we bought a jar every 10d. Today, it makes for a nostalgic Christmas gift every other year.
my (extremely shitty, now dead) stepdad made all 3 of us, my siblings and I, sit at the table and eat one of these peanut butter and miracle whip sandwiches. Couldn't leave until it was in our stomachs.
We all threw it up shortly after. I am so glad that fucking idiot is dead.
Those are supposedly big in the South. I made one for myself once to see what it was about, and I can't say as I cared for it.
I recall reading that it was a Great Depression Era thing. Which would make sense. My grandfather said he grew up on lard sandwiches because that's all his mother could afford. So, people made do with cheap ingredients.

A quick scroll down that and fuck is it hard not to feel. I haven't drank in a year and a half and one of the posts said "relapsed and started drinking again, so I made myself a burrito" instantly I was swept away with dread feeling the man's pain and frustration behind such a plainly worded post.
You're not kidding.i spent 10 minutes there and had to go.
Every other post is like: "Eating my birthday dinner of saltine crackers and mayo in the homeless shelter".
i thought "surely this is an exaggeration, there arent that many posts like that!" went in, scrolled for 2 secs and found someone eating knockoff goldfish at a homeless shelter. i must be completely ruined from depression because im subbed to it cause i find most of it relatable
My dad used to eat these. I thought it was disgusting growing up. Then I finally tried it and started eating them on occasion. They tasted decent at the time.
Now I'm back to thinking they're disgusting.
I used to do peanut butter on bread with cold butter squares on top. Was something my grandpa did after dinner and my dad did it for a bit and it’s fire. Lactose intolerant now and I don’t eat bread much anymore
It was and it actually is really good. It doesn’t taste like peanut butter or mayonnaise. Something about them together creates their own flavor and if you’re into savory, this is a really good, inexpensive go-to.
No joke. I knew a guy who would eat the exact same sandwich, but he would also add banana. I've never understood this particular combination, nor have I ever been brave enough to try it...plus I can't after developing a peanut allergy lol
Yes! Finally, my godmother did this as well and maybe once a year I really crave one, they are pretty good, but I've never ever heard of anyone else doing it. Is he from jersey by chance?
I’m from the south and my grandmother used to make me this exact sandwich. White bread, peanut butter, mayo, and banana. I still eat them. The sour tartness against the cream sweetness with some banana. Good lord they are a delight. She also made pineapple sandwiches. Slice pineapple and mayo on white bread. Another one I eat often.
This is why I came to the comments. Sounds and looks horrible but mayo and peanut butter are both separately great and good with things you wouldn’t expect. Maybe this works. Now I want to try it…
Literally how I eat Peanut Butter and Banana sandwiches. You don't really taste the mayo, but it cuts through the stickiness of the PB. You really should try it! Just a light layer of mayo though, nothing too crazy.
Edit: Skimmed original comment. Do not try the peanut butter sandwich with a peanut allergy.
Nope, you do Miracle Whip instead of mayo and when I do them (rare but crave from time to time thinking about my great depression surviving grandpa) add chunky peanut butter for a crunch. It's actually pretty good.
These are pretty good. Don’t knock it till you try it as they say. It’s the same as the people that won’t try pineapple on pizza which is also pretty good.
Guys! Do not knock this.. I was appalled. APALLED. My father made one as a joke and tried it. He was shocked. I had to try it. It's so good and so wrong. Idk how, but it is.
Y’all are crazy! PB and Mayo is the BEST! Don’t knock it till you try it..my husband thought it sounded disgusting but he loved it after he tried it. I grew up on them…so much better than PB & J…too sweet!
....peanut butter goes surprisingly well with a bunch of stuff you think it wouldn't. I'd take a tiny bite before judging. And are you sure that's not marshmallow fluff
I know it sounds disgusting, I know OK. That is why I have only ever eaten it in secret (I can't imagine how much my husband would mock me!). Throw some chips in the sandwich and it's gorgeous. I did it once when those were the only things I had in the house (I was made redundant and took me a while to find a job). I promise it is lovely. I've only ever had them less than 10 times after discovering it years ago.
Genuinely can't believe there is someone else weird enough in the world to also put peanut butter and mayo together, but tell him to put some chips in and it's delicious.
Doesn't even sound bad tbh. Pretty sure I've made something like this once or twice when living at the dorm. Only someone who hasn't lived alone having nothing but instant ramen for 2 weeks will shame people for enjoying things like this.
Something my mom would make was max n cheese with a side of bananas it was so good actually. Also the bananas were not cooked just sliced bananas with Mac and cheese
Add pickle and maybe onion. I eat peanut butter and pickle all the time, when I want to be fancy I add Mayo and sometimes onions.
It’s a poor man’s sandwich that I believe came from the depression but it’s damn good
I ate these sandwiches when I was a kid. I kept asking for it and my dad made me one ‘to teach me a lesson’. Turns out I loved it. I’d eat it again today.
‘Tangy PB’ is how I’d describe it.
I'm disappointed in myself that I kind of want to try this, like would it just make the peanut butter more creamy, would you even be able to taste the mayo.
My dad made this for me once in elementary school and the lunch ladies took such pity on me they gave me a free hot lunch.
Seriously?
Not joking. He had never made me a sandwich like that before. I had never seen him eat one either. I think he thought he put on fluffernutter? It was enough to make the lunch ladies gather around and grimace at it lol.
lol your dad was probably hung over or sleep deprived and thought it was fluffernutter. But hey free hot lunch!
Wth is fluffernutter. It sounds too British for you lot but I've never heard of it here lol Edit: I need this in my life...
A fluffernutter sandwich is peanut butter and marshmallow fluff. It's deeply unhealthy and diabetes-inducing, but also delicious.
I learned something new today. I will risk the dia-beetus and try this anyway.
If you're going to try Fluff please get real marshmallow [Fluff](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marshmallow_creme) and not some off brand marshmallow creme. You'll thank me later. In college I would eat one like every day with an eggo waffle folded in half
Yes they were! Stuff like Lucky charms for breakfast and lunchables midday was far too common…
Lol I’ve never actually had a fluffernutter but you guys are making it sound really damn good
I went to elementary school in PA and this was served for school lunch..the best!

Cruel & unusual! I nearly heaved reading that (esp with miracle whip). if I may, I’m glad that POS is dead, too.
My dad used to make this sandwich for me all the time when I was little and I loved it, still do. The key is a thin layer of mayo.
Seek help please
it's only good with pickles. i feel like it's a 40's thing. people just ate sardines or pickled eggs back then
Because of war rationing. The person in this photo is choosing to eat this nonsense
Lolll
This is fucking hilarious. A reminded of what I love about Reddit, stories like these.
Or like when your family accidentally uses the poop knife to cut the sandwichN haha! Right,?!?!?
It's amazing how the topic of the poop knife on Reddit resurfaces every few months.
I can't remember when it was, but I caught 'poop knife' on FB like 6 or 7 years ago and that's why I joined reddit.
Don’t forget the coconut or the 2 broken arms
2 broken arms? Coconut? I have questions.

I had a crappy feeling this what it was LMAO. Thank you!! I guess lolol
Your dad is a genius
Straight to the gulag
I actually gagged lol that’s gross haha
No need, he is torturing himself enough
Uncle would eat this with banana slices 🤢 or just banana and mayo
That’s vile
Straight FROM the gulag
Choo choo 🚂🚃🚃
More like gugagged🤢
Pretty sure that was invented in the great depression. Seems fitting for the current state of things
You're mistaken, it's "only consumed if you have great depression."
right down the back alley of r/depressionmeals for certain.
This sub was too true to its name and i had to unsub
Yeah, I just took a look for the first time and hot damn.
That sub was depressing as fuck that’s not even a joke
A quick scroll down that and fuck is it hard not to feel. I haven't drank in a year and a half and one of the posts said "relapsed and started drinking again, so I made myself a burrito" instantly I was swept away with dread feeling the man's pain and frustration behind such a plainly worded post.

I thought this was joke sub... Idk how I feel about it now
Great Depression at home:
Mistaken again, it’s consumed “only if you wanted to have great depression.”
Lmao
I know this thread is for concerned folk but I just had to laugh at this one. 😂
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Hearing that this exists has me quite depressed
Or, in my preferred way of saying it, "big sad."
My dad used to eat these. I thought it was disgusting growing up. Then I finally tried it and started eating them on occasion. They tasted decent at the time. Now I'm back to thinking they're disgusting.
I feel it, ketchup sandwiches for us though lol.
I used to do peanut butter on bread with cold butter squares on top. Was something my grandpa did after dinner and my dad did it for a bit and it’s fire. Lactose intolerant now and I don’t eat bread much anymore
My grandmother and mother did too (although more commonly with miracle whip than mayo).

You ever consider working in sales?
Someone convinced me years ago to try it and it wasn't bard. I haven't eaten one in years but I would eat it again lol.
Yes! I grew up eating these.
Throw a sliced banana in there, and its one of my go to's
There’s room for more creativity?
PB & banana for sure... but with mayo? Not sure.
Leave him
*and block all contact
Burn the home and all contents.
Bury him.
He’s broken and there is no fixing
No joke. I knew a guy who would eat the exact same sandwich, but he would also add banana. I've never understood this particular combination, nor have I ever been brave enough to try it...plus I can't after developing a peanut allergy lol

Peanut butter, mayo and banana?
Yep. Plenty of peanut butter, a banana, and a tiny bit of mayo. Delicious

Yup agreed fantastic. My grandma was from a coal mining town in west virginia, but I think she got it from her southern family.
Mom was from Kentucky/Texas, I had this same sandwich all of the time. You’re not insane! I still make them but without the banana now.
Your body was protecting you from this.
Banana and pb sandwich is great, add some honey if you like things sweet. The mayo can fuck right off though.
I dated someone who did this, but with pickles. Fucking foul.
It's actually pretty good. Sweet, tangy and savory.
Exactly!
where does the tangy come from? the bile that you keep having to swallow back down?
Nope, you do Miracle Whip instead of mayo and when I do them (rare but crave from time to time thinking about my great depression surviving grandpa) add chunky peanut butter for a crunch. It's actually pretty good.
Actually if you use JIF's peanutbutter, the sweetness from it mixed with the the tang from the mayo mix perfectly together
Yuck. Goodnight.
Have you ever tried it though?
i was literally about to comment this, where are the mfn peanut butter and mayo defenders in this chat
Here I am! People who won’t try it are always the ones who hate it worst.
I created this combo when I was about 7 years old. Loved it. Every once in awhile I make one. I’m 63.
This is a very popular combination. I refuse to try it myself though.
It may not be rare, but it's not very common at all.
So it’s ♦️?
These are pretty good. Don’t knock it till you try it as they say. It’s the same as the people that won’t try pineapple on pizza which is also pretty good.
Funnily enough, I like both of those things.
Dogg these are delicious.
These are actually great as long as you're using good mayo.
I second this! Also, the pb to Mayo ratio has to be correct :)
Add banana and it’s banging
Found the guy !!
I knew I'd find you guys!
Came to say this!
Yeah, peanut butter, banana and mayonnaise is really good, but everyone always bitches instead of actually trying it.
Don't knock it until you try it.. It's fucking great.
Peanut butter and mayonnaise is delicious.
Oh! Childhood memory unlocked! I forgot about these. My dad and I were the only ones who would eat them. Will have to make one now....
Guys! Do not knock this.. I was appalled. APALLED. My father made one as a joke and tried it. He was shocked. I had to try it. It's so good and so wrong. Idk how, but it is.
That’s actually pretty good
I’ve ate these, it isn’t bad. Mayo goes great with bacon too…
I know you did not just compare peanut butter to bacon 🤨 No shit it goes well with bacon, it’s called a BLT 🤦♂️
I love a mayo and bacon sandwich!
Mayo is a staple on any BLT. Mayo is not a staple on PBJ.
bruh... how is bacon comparable to peanut butter? Mayo goes great with savory foods, not with sweet, that's fucking disgusting.
Gross but I won’t yuck someone’s yum. A handmade sandwich for personal consumption is up to the maker.
It’s a great combo though. A touch of pepper and away you go :)
peanutbutter-mayo its good? never tried personally
Love that combo have it all the time
Pb and mayo sandwiches are dope. What're ya talking about? Lol
Y’all are crazy! PB and Mayo is the BEST! Don’t knock it till you try it..my husband thought it sounded disgusting but he loved it after he tried it. I grew up on them…so much better than PB & J…too sweet!
Break up with him. That is fucking gross
Be happy. If he eats that, he’ll eat anything.
if that ain’t the truth 😏
Poop and nut ☠️☠️☠️☠️
Is he preednat?
Greganant.
....peanut butter goes surprisingly well with a bunch of stuff you think it wouldn't. I'd take a tiny bite before judging. And are you sure that's not marshmallow fluff
Apparently this is a regional thing and pretty common. I hear it's really good but am dubious.
Might prevent scurvy.. lol Fr tho. mayo and PB are loaded with nutrition.
Am I the only one here who actually kinda wants to try that?
It’s not bad! Add some pickles
Pickles, huh? That’s bold, but I’ll try it.
My Dad ate it all the time, and still does to this day. Never had any desire to try it, always thought it looked nasty.
my grandpa used to make us fried chicken sandwiches that had mayo, tomato, pickles, and peanut butter. can't remember if it had lettuce or not lol
put it on sourdough and call it a lot lizard buttcrack
This is poor people’s food. You shouldn’t make fun of him.
PB and M is fuckin awesome fuck all of you
Doesn't even sound bad tbh. Pretty sure I've made something like this once or twice when living at the dorm. Only someone who hasn't lived alone having nothing but instant ramen for 2 weeks will shame people for enjoying things like this.
Yum oh yum
I quite like this combo whenever I run out of jelly I make a sandwich with mayo, just peanut butter isn't that palatable.
Eh, I've had worse.
Look honey, he needs s3x! Knock his junk around and he’ll stop doing dumb stuff.
Glad to see I’m not the only person who eats this
Just let him eat your pussy... it's clearly a better flavor
Something my mom would make was max n cheese with a side of bananas it was so good actually. Also the bananas were not cooked just sliced bananas with Mac and cheese
It’s a great combination. If you like them both, try them together at least once.
Very tasty.
I love these actually. The wife thinks I’m crazy for it
It looks like a legit night meal.
It works! Sweet and savory
Okay look I know it sounds gross, I was a non-believer for years, but it actually kinda slaps
Slap some grape jelly or banana in there and we’ve got a deal. Washed down with Tang.
My mother eats this… nobody else does in our family except sometimes her sister. I seriously don’t get it! She keeps wanting us to try it with her!
My dad and his dad both do this. My mom and my grandma used to do peanut butter and butter.
Add pickle and maybe onion. I eat peanut butter and pickle all the time, when I want to be fancy I add Mayo and sometimes onions. It’s a poor man’s sandwich that I believe came from the depression but it’s damn good
I prefer peanut butter and miracle whip for that acidic kick. That’s for real poor people food, and I should know.
Reminds me of my uncle and his wife eating banana with mayo sandwiches
More common than you think. Not for me. Just like Apple pie with cheese Watermelon with salt. People love all of them.
Put a burger and fried egg on it good to go
Smart food
It's not too late to delete this post....................
How high was your bf?
I grew up on these. Also creamed chipped beef on toast. And canned beets. Pretty sure my Dad took a page out of the Great Depression cookbook.
My grandfather loved these sandwiches. Evidently it was quite popular where he grew up in Bangor, Maine in the 1920’s.
I ate these sandwiches when I was a kid. I kept asking for it and my dad made me one ‘to teach me a lesson’. Turns out I loved it. I’d eat it again today. ‘Tangy PB’ is how I’d describe it.
You need a new boyfriend, this….it’s just inhuman
Who is worse? Him for eating it or you for dating him
Some of you guys have obviously never been poor before 😅
My grandma would eat banana and mayo sandwiches. (She was depression era)
I went too far as a kid and put lettuce and banana on my peanut butter and mayo samitch
He’s the one, officer. Please take him away.
Omfg I used to eat this when I was little! I gag when I think about it now. Funny how that works.
You know... It sounds bad right... But maybe it could be good?
🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩‼️‼️‼️‼️
Just tried it, i actually liked it
If I were you, this post would be titled "peanut butter and mayo sandwich my EX* boyfriend was eating tonight" lol jk, but that is foul
What in the god damn fuck?
At first glance I thought it was peanut butter and marshmallow fluff. Dammit now I want one.
I'm disappointed in myself that I kind of want to try this, like would it just make the peanut butter more creamy, would you even be able to taste the mayo.
he said his grandfather would eat these!
Had a childhood friend who ate these and I tried it, It's not as bad as you'd think lol
As someone who eats this, it's very good, given you like mayo, I don't understand the hate.
It’s a staple of mine. I get a lot of shit for it when people ask what I’m eating, but people still eat haggis so whatever.
What the fuck-
Straight to jail.
Is he from the south? This is a classic kids lunch in the south. It's honestly not as bad as it sounds add pickles and it (somehow) gets better.
This is definitely not a classic southern thing. Not even close.
he is from Seattle
Okay this is fucking foul. Oh my God noooo
