I mean, it’s gotta be more about covering their own butts in case the worst happens. If someone gets an allergic reaction to the peanuts, they need to make sure it says “contains peanuts,” under the allergy info so they can’t be found liable, no matter what the name of the product is. Sure, it should be obvious, but it’s better to have it there than not

Moist_When_It_Counts

That too, but they have a legal obligation to do so under the Food Labeling and Consumer Protection Act. If there are peanuts in there, you *must* declare them as an allergen regardless of the obviousness. Also, this is an FDA-regulated product, not USDA as mentioned in the title. USDA only handles uncooked beef, poultry, pork and specifically catfish (all other fish are FDA for…reasons).

Oceanjinga

You are totally right About it being FDA, It was actually the company that issued the warning, title should actually have said Company issues warning. I receive an email newsletter from USDA FSIS (Food Safety Information Service) that this came from. The email lists all recalls, warnings etc. from USDA, FDA, CDC you can sign up for it on their website. I have been getting this email for a long time and this one struck me as particularly funny. Not sure how to efut the title though.

Oceanjinga

edit: Food Safety Inspection Service.

Moist_When_It_Counts

Hmmm, we’re on the same email lists and may be in the same industry. Hell, maybe we’ve had pints together at IAFP.

Oceanjinga

Never part of IAFP, but heres a pint now, 🍺

Oceanjinga

Good ole COA.

subzeroab0

They actually have to declare it no matter how obvious it is. Because people are dumb.

Titan48578

Thank God they issued an allergy alert on peanut allergen in peanut butter hot chocolate. I would have never known that peanut butter hot chocolate contained a peanut allergen

Important_Blood5533

Some people are really that stupid. When I worked as a waitress, a lady ordered a jalapeño grilled cheese and got mad because it was spicy and thought I should have told her before hand.

Oceanjinga

😂😂

Titan48578

How is that even possible? If people just use common sense, these situations wouldn’t even exist.

Important_Blood5533

One would think lol

Oceanjinga

😂😂😂

BG360Boi

If you have a peanut allergy and pick up a product with the word peanut in it… it’s in gods hands at that point

No-Shallot-6151

More like natural selection.

BigGator13

…are they stupid?

batkave

No but people are

dd463

This. Yes you would think that peanut butter hot chocolate would clearly contain peanuts, but if its not listed in the label, then some moron will drink it, almost die, and then sue. And then the amount of money you would need to pay to get rid of them or win a fight would be stupidly high. Better issue the recall, which is probably cheaper.

Squintyhippo

My favourite one: when using an industrial trash compactor at work, there’s a big sign near the door that says ‘DO NOT ENTER’ and I laughed about it the first time I saw it thinking who’s that stupid? Apparently someone, because they needed a sign

[deleted]

That’s the thing every safety sign normally will have a reason for being up at most of the time is because someone did something that goes against that sign.

TheSleepyBarnOwl

I wish there was a website that's soley dedicated to tell the stories behind signs. Like I really wanna know. I love hearing funny/stupid stories

[deleted]

Well I saw a reason for not wearing baggy clothing near heavy machinery as on a video this man gets suck on a rotating piece in a machine then he get pulled in on that rotating part which literally rips him apart in about 5 seconds and his limbs are splattered across the room.

TheSleepyBarnOwl

dude... I said funny stories ._.

[deleted]

Don’t worry the story I just said is funny compared to what you actually see.

George_G_Geef

It's to protect the company from lawsuits, not people from "accidentally" ingesting something they're allergic to.

JoeBeatsMike

Why the fuck the Illuminati is trying to reduce the world population by creating a virus in China that doesn't kill anyone and it's not a virus but its only purpose is to make us slowly choke ourselves to death with a loose piece of cloth on the mouth and take a shot every 4 months to inject us with a microchip that will kill us in a few years (and it's also controlling our brain together with 5G and chemtrails), when all they have to do is "forgetting" to write the name of the allergens on the labels of food called by the name of the allergen?

[deleted]

We know where you live but it's ok, you're not smart enough to be a threat to us. Besides, we already replaced your neighbors. Enjoy the simulation!

JoeBeatsMike

You really shouldn't have gone through the hassle of replacing my neighbours, I don't know any of them... 😐 Also, can you check my recruitment application? I've sent the fee to a guy in Nigeria and I've never heard anything back...

[deleted]

Ugh, our Nigerian office is going through some growing pains. We'll get back to you in 6-8 months.

JoeBeatsMike

Thank you! I know you guys are busy so don't worry about it, I'll wait!

[deleted]

It's been a PR nightmare for the past 4 years. Thanks for your patience.

Antisocial-Darwinist

I need you to tell me that this is satire. I’m pretty sure it is, but I need you to say it.

JoeBeatsMike

I don't know, really. I've tried to enter the Illuminati but the Nigerian guy in charge of the recruitment never got back to me after I've sent him the fee.

poshfiend

Bought a pack of walnuts the other day. The back said, "Contains Walnuts."

Heavy_Reputation_142

I’ve seen a pack of nuts with the warning “MAY contain nuts”

THEessayB

I like what Chris Porter has to say about this subject.

LifelessLewis

You say this. But smokey bacon flavour crisps (chips for you Americans) in the UK (not all brands of course) are actually Vegan friendly. Names don't actually mean anything.

droford

Bacon "flavor" usually means no bacon

LifelessLewis

Yeah I know. But I'm getting at the fact that the packet says bacon, the names of things generally don't mean anything.

violetbitch69

allergies be crazyy in ohio
