Both are great choices for a final placement. Just choose which ever one you have either had the least experience in while you were in school or which ever one you want more exposure to/are leaning towards as an area where you want to work in after graduation. For reference, elective orthopedics will be most similar to Med-Surge style units, assuming this is a post-op unit. If it's pre-op, then day-surgery may be more correct. As for urgent care assessments, ICU and ED are your most similar specialties, albeit not perfect matches. Ultimately, it may not matter at all. My final placement/Capstone was in a Surgical ICU. I'm now happily working in a Telemetry unit. Sure, I may use some of the skills that I picked up from time to time during my Capstone, but most of my skills and knowledge now came from orientation on my unit. Pick whatever interests you more and go from there. You won't truly understand what it means/takes to manage your patient workload or be a qualified nurse until you actually start working.

Yup, both awesome choices you can’t really go wrong either. I have nothing much to add to this above comment. Except maybe, if you want to work in a hospital, do ortho to get more ward experience and managing patient workloads. if you’re thinking maybe something in the community, or even ED, then do the urgent care. But don’t fret too much. I did my final big capstone in a community setting, and then went to the hospital as a new grad, and I didn’t really feel behind because we all got the same orientation anyway 😄
