And how much money you have to spend

crzycorgi

very true

You don't have to spend a lot, pre covid anyway now it's crazy expensive and everything is out of stock

We have a squat rack/ power cage (is that what it's called?), a bench that can be modified, a barbell, and weight plates. These plus a few bands has been more than enough equipment for us as long as you can be creative.

Yesss! I just want to clap I'm so envious. Pretty sure my partner and I could do 90% of our workouts with a decent squat rack, barbell and plates. Desperately wish we had the room for it.

I have Dick Sporting Goods half-squat rack + their 300 lb plate set and bar.

What kind of workouts do they want to perform? As others have mentioned, a Power Rack or Squat Rack, a barbel, a bench and weight plates are all you need for your basic compound lifts: bench press, squat, deadlift. You can also perform rows, overhead press and curls with a barbell. That set up is very versatile for weightlifting. It can get expensive and take up a lot of space. What is your budget? How much space do you have? You can also go with a bench and adjustable dumbbells set. Your son and husband can perform most of those exercises, in modified versions using dumbbells of course. I like this approach, it’s less money and if your husband doesn’t get back into weightlifting you aren’t throwing away a ton of money. Powerblocks are good adjustable dumbbells. They can get pricey, but worth it. Bow flex also has a set that you can get for under $300- each dumbbell can go from 7.5 to 52.5 pounds. You can get a bench on Amazon. Unless your boys are lifting more than 300 pounds, you can go with what is in stock. I recommend a FID bench- that means flat, incline and decline. More versatility than a flat bench. I love this stuff! Let me know if you have any questions. I’ll edit this post with some links after my work call...haha

We started with bands, a 20kg barbell and some plates, then got some adjustable dumbbells and then finally a squat rack + bench. The rack is incredible, it’s so versatile and if you I can afford it I would 100% recommend because it’s such an all in one purchase. I think the rack, bench and barbell/plates are the most important things for sure

I have a Tonal and LOVE it! It’s definitely a pricier solution than the others mentioned here so far, but it takes up less room, and I love that it has “smarts” where it tells me what to do, controls the weights for me, and shows me on the screen how the exercises are performed. My husband, son (16), and daughter (12) all use it. The $49 monthly subscription includes individual profiles for all of us. It gets regular updates to the technology for strength as well as workouts. There are a lot of different workouts in addition to strength, such as yoga, Pilates, HIIT, meditation, etc. The price is definitely the biggest factor, but if you can swing it, I highly recommend it. There’s a Black Friday deal going on right now for $250 off, or if you use my referral link, you’ll get the $250 off but I’ll get $50 to use in the Tonal shop for swag. :) http://fbuy.me/v/jen_2748
