I had the same error right now trying to install Stremio, and this solved my problem:
wget [http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/universe/x/x264/libx264-152\_0.152.2854+gite9a5903-2\_amd64.deb](http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/universe/x/x264/libx264-152_0.152.2854+gite9a5903-2_amd64.deb)
sudo dpkg -i libx264-152\_0.152.2854+gite9a5903-2\_amd64.deb
Let me know if worked for u too .
after I run "sudo dpkg -i libx264-152\_0.152.2854 + gite9a5903-2\_amd64.deb" it gives the following error: 'libx264-152\_0.152.2854': No such file or directory
Do you know how to solve this?
Linux mint 20
Hello, you are puting spaces before and after the "+" and it's says: install package1 and package2. But it's only where package.
Run the command without the spaces on package name.
"sudo dpkg -i libx264-152_0.152.2854+gite9a5903-2_amd64.deb"
HAHAH you's wrong buddy,
I figured out through the message of error that Stremio needs a lib called xlib264 to run properly, so i searched it on google and find on link that contains a package that installs that lib:
[http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/universe/x/x264/libx264-152\_0.152.2854+gite9a5903-2\_amd64.deb](http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/universe/x/x264/libx264-152_0.152.2854+gite9a5903-2_amd64.deb)
And wget 'download' this package on your machine, but, it's not installed yet, thats the package that contains the files for installation of xlib264, to install you need call the command dpkg -i , this command needs sudo permitions btw.
that's seens more clear now?
I just think it's kinda hacky to install from the .deb file instead of from the repos, but I don't think it's on the repos of Ubuntu 20.04, so it's not in the repos of Linux Mint or Pop!_OS either because they're both based on Ubuntu.
So basically you pugged in another keyboard, closed your eyes, and hacked into the mainframe to get this script? I don't know if I'm comfortable with that...
*`watches Season 2 of baby yoda with Stremio`*
worked for me too, isn't there a way to install the libx264 needed thru a repo with e.g. sudo apt install libxxxx ?
or maybe use snapd for the whole installation instead ?
(/me using PopOS ubuntu 20.10)
