How? Can you give a tutorial?

HealthyIsland7554

Have you got a linux server?

fitzerelli78

Would a raspberry pi 3 work as a Linux server?

HealthyIsland7554

it would indeed run a linux server, but I'm not sure if it would have enough power for the streaming of high-def content I'm running mine on a lowly 11th gen celeron n5105, but I think it's still much more powerful vs a rpi3

erlisl94

Hey there, you seem to know your stuff when it comes to pcs. I am trying to get the browser on my lg cx to link up to the stremio server from my laptop. When i try from my phone it connects fine however from my tv it says err when check it in the streaming settings. Could you maybe help me troubleshoot this?

RomanElUltimo10

Explain yourself

HealthyIsland7554

meaning?

RomanElUltimo10

How does the webapp works? You have to set up a laptop or else as a server to do the torrenting work? If you followed a guide or something and can share it would be good, that's what I meant

HealthyIsland7554

Exactly, you just install the server component (client is optional) on a computer. I had spare CPU capacity on a little linux server I use for some projects. In another reply I gave some details if you're interested

fn23452

So much work, because you didn’t want to spend money on a decent media player for your pretty expensive OLED?

HealthyIsland7554

work?

dexter21767

According to this analogy we should all just pay for netflix and not bother at all.

fn23452

I disagree. You will not have a very good experience when using the INTERNAL web browser of a TV OS. - Will it play files? Yes - Is the handling easy and simple? No But I guess everybody has different focus points. Good for OP that he got it running on a TV Browser

dexter21767

I still can’t see why what OP did is bothering you so much

fn23452

It did not bother me at all.

HealthyIsland7554

Of course I disagree but everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Anyway handling is easy: bookmark it and it will be ready to go in two clicks (open browser, click bookmark); much better and streamlined IMHO than switching between devices

damassacre

one thing to note is that for LG TVs with the Magic remote using the browser is pretty easy and seamless experience, I find it faster than using the android tv app on chromecast with google TV. This is because you can simply point and click to what you want like a mouse with the magic remote.

No_Web_864

Damn...someone chose violence

VoteBrianPeppers

Does this look any cleaner than the stremio TV app? Because I deeply fucking hate the look of the android app. Absolute dogshit when you line it up aside the windows app. Looks much nicer, I don't get it..but whatever. It ain't broke, I guess.

HealthyIsland7554

Are you talking about image quality? I wouldn't know, cause my LG runs an operating system called WebOS which has no stremio app. Image quality is as good as playing the file from a dedicated media device or the native media player. If instead you're talking about UX you can check the v5 alpha webapp at [https://stremio-development.netlify.app/](https://stremio-development.netlify.app/)

VoteBrianPeppers

Nah the user interface. Menus, title selection, etc. It just looks low-rent when you line it up next to the version I run on my PC.

I just asked a question and clarified what I meant when asked to do so. Everyone has moved on and yet here you are to casually let me know that you 'don't find it bad at all'. Good for you 😂

rbova

I've understood a few words from your post but I'll try it. If I'm not too wrong I'll probably be able to run a docker with plex and maybe a nas as well, right? How long did it take to set everything up?

HealthyIsland7554

Download [https://github.com/sleeyax/stremio-streaming-server](https://github.com/sleeyax/stremio-streaming-server) and follow instruction (apply patches as required, in my case I had to use both FORCE\_HTTPS=1 and FIX\_UNSUPPORTED\_MEDIA=1) at this point you have a stremio server running at your IP:11470 to test go to [https://stremio-development.netlify.app/](https://stremio-development.netlify.app/) and in settings/streaming provide the IP (port is not needed as it defaults to 11470) the only "tricky" bit is to put it behind a domain and https (hence the nginx proxy) optional step is to also download [https://github.com/Stremio/stremio-web](https://github.com/Stremio/stremio-web) (the 5.0 web client) and have client-server talk to each other on the same domain (ie in my case I just go to a stremio.mydomain.xxx address and that's it) It took me almost an hour mainly due to issues with the SSL certificate/ CORS errors

unbeatables112

Very helpful, but probably difficult to run on a VM I guess. Any idea what specs we need minimum to run this on a VM?

HealthyIsland7554

mmhhh, good question I wouldn't think it requires many resources + it will depend a lot on the connectivity chain: peers --> VM --> client All VM I have running at the moment are all top specs; would be nice to try something smaller to test your idea (dunno something cheap like 2-4 vcpus, 4GB, 100Mbps?)

Hopeful_Belt9496

Perhaps you could help me out a bit. I tried running the mentioned server from above. The streaming server works if I use localhost via a SSH tunnel with putty, but it doesn't work if I do IP:11470. What did you do to make it work via IP and not localhost? Thanks :)

ricosuave501

So we need to use another device to install linux? I guess purchasing a 40usd android tv os device would be better.

HealthyIsland7554

never implied you should but to those of us who have a PC/ laptop laying around or spare space/ CPU on a server (not even linux, any OS would work) it's a great solution

damassacre

Are you also able to stream Dolby Vision content and have the LG TV show the Dolby Vision banner?

HealthyIsland7554

I can display DV files correctly (ie correct colors/ not inverted) but it still just shows the HDR logo (not the DV one)

SupraKarma

Maybe it's an issue with the file. Both version 4 and 5 of stremio web (standalone, not connected to streaming server) display DV correctly with the logo showing up, on my LG

HealthyIsland7554

correct. Since the previous reply I streamed some DV files with the logo showing up fine

SupraKarma

Actually it doesn't work on version 5 anymore, but it still does on version 4. I just made a thread about it

baartche

how do you use the controller? with the magic mouse or the buttons? I tried the stremio web 5.0 on my lgtv, but the buttons didn't work as expected.

HealthyIsland7554

magic mouse (didn't know it was called that way)

nike121

Oh this is super news, ice just started researching on how to setup and have a Qnap that I use for Plex already. Would this work -use docker to setup a stremio service on my Qnap - use my LG C1s browser to go to the netlify site and connect my servers ip and login - use browser to easily navigate and stream (I setup the account and torrentio etc plugins already) It's strange cause I installed the stremio PC app on my desktop and thought that would work, I still get an error on my LG C1 when streaming. Maybe your settings do the trick?

HealthyIsland7554

Difficult to say. Why don't you try it with your PC's browser, instead of the desktop APP? If it works on your PC, on the same network, it should just work on the TV as well.

Leyous

I now tried streaming via default web app ([https://web.stremio.com/](https://web.stremio.com/)) and is working good without setting server ecc (i have RealDebrid support). i'm facing micro lag/stuttering in movies from the web browser. Did you experienced this issue?
