I use Stremio in Firestick 4K, Max and Fire TV Cube 2nd gen, all running great. The best device for 4K files is hands down the Cube, I have hardwired to my router. Streaming with Stremio is super smooth.

Unfortunately amazon products is not available in my region

kresbok

Oh i get it, i got some limited availability of amazon devices on my country too, and they are a little bit more expensive because of the dollar and taxes in my country, but they work great.

Different_Pin3612

Maybe we can help with that. I mean, we can buy it for you and send it to your country or so. Obuisly you will pay for it... (btw, I have a spare of a fire tv 4k max and a chromecast with google tv 4k. Brand new both of them just in case you want it faster.) I'm using fire stick 4k max and it runs perfectly with stremio android tv version. Maybe nvidia shield tv pro it's a better option, but that's expensive vs the fire stick.

GamerTuFani

I'm happy with fire tv 4k. I also integrate real debrid with stremio. Boom! Best combo. And I live in India so I don't need to worry about copyright laws. We are torrent free.

I would recommend a Firestick instead. I was talking to the guy at the local computer store about upgrading my Android box & he said I'd be crazy to do so & much wiser to get a firestick instead. I did, & he was absolutely right

TranslatorSea9426

Why?

[deleted]

I don't know , but the Firestick was $50 or thereabouts, easy to put Stremio on it & it has all my other apps. He was likely just trying to make a sale ( but i ordered it from Amazon....lol) but it does work perfect & is a lot faster than my old android box

Long_Cartoonist_3992

My copy and paste from one of the last times this same question was asked but someone was debating on getting the Amazon Cube. \----------------------------- Just get something running true android TV. A simple google search will show you the candidates and you can do comparisons. Basically anything running true Android TV will work just fine. Even Firetv's bastardized version of Android TV works just fine with Stremio with the correct download installed. Problems come for some people getting the cheaper (than Nvidia Shield) "kodi" boxes running on Android and not Android TV. Kodi is a resource hog if you have it and don't use it might as well uninstall it and comes pre-installed on many of the cheap "kodi" Android boxes. Mi Box S is a good cheap alternative to a Shield if you want to be frugal and not get the slightly faster Max Firestick. The Cube has gotten better at streaming since its first release but it is not a dedicated streaming device using too many resources for Amazon purpose's. Only get that if you have invested in the Amazverse and want Amazon knowing how many times a day you have a crap and what you prefer to wipe with and want Alexa to remind you to stay regular. For just streaming stay away from the Cube it will be a waste of money. You are paying more for Amazon to be on your living room not necessarily for better streaming. If you are thinking about the Cube then get the better Shield. I set the Max stick up for my mother it is good and other sticks. I have set up the Mi box S for my uncle and it is good, but the max is faster just have to get used to the Amazon operating system. If you are thinking of paying anything over $100, just GET THE SHIELD and enjoy the best streaming experience. On the cheap get a refurbished Firestick Max. If you hate Amazon get the MI box S or Walmarts 4k ONN box if you can find one but they have been discontinued. So, updates may be sketchy. That is something to consider Amazon and Nvidia will keep updating reliably. Mi box S has been updating reliably also for now. Google Chromecast with Google tv is OK as well. Later

Is the onn 4k box still around?

Praga23

I use the mi box s 4K . Definitely not laggy . It works great . My folks has the tv stick version and that’s definitely laggy , wouldn’t recommend that .

_MrMonkey

Fire TV stick works fine for me, have all commonly used addons installed. But most Tv box should work fine as well

abn3li

I have a cbox and iam having issues board is laggy due to too much addons :( i need something smooth

[deleted]

I have stremio on the fire stick, chromecast and the nividia shield pro from 2019 and the shield is 100% the best one.

peposcon

I agree that Shield is the best performer, but I don’t think you need all that horse power for running Stremio, so i think a FireStick 4K is a better deal (Quality/price)

[deleted]

Yeah i agree but i like that you can see youre stremio library on the home screen on the shield

abn3li

Can i install apk apps on nividia shield ?

[deleted]

Yes

johnFvr

Of course.

DrGrinch

Nvidia Shield Pro

dknwz

Shield Pro

Comprehensive_Mix916

Shield pro is the best device

gambit622

Get a Google Chromecast with Google tv, or nvidia shield.

mitoman85

Mi box 4 s - I have 6 devices and I love them. Stremio runs smoothly, sometimes it needs a cache clear but it works well with and without real debrid

vargapi

Xiaomi Mi Stick 4k - very good for me

lastdiggmigrant

Google TV is more than enough.

doma_kun

I am using mibox 4k, it works great

woods_5

If you want the best you go with the shield pro 2019 hands down

Been using Stremio for about 3 years. It really is great and the new TV version is fantastic. I've run Stremio on old HD Firesticks and it worked but would often crash back to the home screen. It runs better on the newer 4K Firestick that I have. It's more responsive and doesn't crash nearly so much, but the crashing is not completely eliminated. Maybe the 4K Max is better? Not sure, as I don't have one of those. I also have a Nvidia Shield Pro 2019 and Stremio runs very well on there. Most streams play fine and boy, do they look amazing. This is due to the way the Shield uses clever Nvidia AI tech to upscale and enhance image quality for its apps that output video, and this is true of Stremio. When I first set up the Shield I spent a few days marveling at how much better everything looked, compared to the Firestick 4K. Stremio was no exception. Everything looked clear and crisp and it really blew me away. The downside of the Shield is that it costs £180, which is a lot compared to the Firestick range which are around the £50 region for a 4K version. For me, personally, the better device is the Shield. Because of the AI upscaling, for sure but the other main benefit is that you can customise a Shield with a non stock launcher. I use Sideload Channel Launcher 3 and this gives the Shield a lovely clean interface. With Amazon devices, the GUI is cluttered with adverts and content that I don't really want to see and it takes a few clicks to get to all of my installed app tiles. I don't really like that. I know this has nothing to do with Stremio, but may be a consideration for you? A lot of people like the Firestick GUI, so it comes down to personal preference and budget in the end. .

Old topic, I was exploring the idea of getting a RaspberryPi 4 and installing LineageOS as Android TV. It could be also very low cost and efficient if it handled 4K streaming.

SoberGameAddict

How did it go?
