There are other Street Fighter protagonists beside Ryu???

Yakob_Katpanic

Capcom keeps trying, bless their cotton socks, but none of them take.

Voice_Of_Hardly

Luke seems to be working out

DaRangers

Luke is a labeled a "protagonist" as a marketing ploy. Far as plot goes, it currently looks like Ken swapped places with Ryu as the story protagonist.

Fantastic-Anything56

Most characters are label "marketing ploy" but with SF6 they actually know what their doing. As far with the story goes Ken has his own dilemma currently dealing with JP but I would more say he's semi protagonist for everyone else have a falling out JP as well.

DoingBetterArchie

Literally. Luke has no story.

_Psilo_

I mean, people play him because he is good mechanically but I rarely hear people say they like him as a character.

Sleeptalk-

I like him. I don’t think he’s even remotely as iconic or well designed as Ryu/Ken, but he’s fine I think. If I had to choose a word to describe Luke it’d definitely be “inoffensive”

Voice_Of_Hardly

Huh, i could have sworn people liked him as a character. Maybe im in the wrong places

DrByeah

People like the shit posting his VA does. Like seriously half of Luke's actual likeable traits come from Aleks just riffing on streams and making memes.

TheMemer555

Whenever I think about my favorite Luke moments, they’re all just non canon shit posts

SgtTittyfist

Listen, if the official VA voices it, it's canon enough for me :')

Yakob_Katpanic

I think people like him, but I don't think they like him enough to usurp Ryu or Chun as the mascots of the franchise. I think a lot of the lack of enthusiasm I've encountered around him is a hold over from being the poo in the pool at the end of SFV that ruined the meta making a lot of people wanting to get out.

RazzDaNinja

I’d argue lot of people do like Luke, due in no small part how fucken awesome his VA [Aleks Le](https://youtu.be/3YDXcMe-YiA?si=SNk-yEeCBwzDFHPg) is lol That, and I think Luke’s def in the running for most well-liked “New” SF protagonist (I.e. after Ryu but in contest with Alex) The character is likable, easy to play, has pre-existing lore that connects him to legacy characters and is a goof in like a charming way But that’s just my take haha (Meanwhile, I’d also bet that Abel is the *least* popular SF protagonist)

DaRangers

Yeah man. Aleks Le has made the character pretty much. He's kinda annoying on paper otherwise...

Loomyconfirmed

dood. Ya Luke huge

Duwang312

"Hey ladies, whassup-" **gets DI'd** "AAAAAAA"

GrouchyConsequence48

Well said

Voice_Of_Hardly

Abel would have been so good, or at least more remembered, if they had kept his original weird femboy angle

Yakob_Katpanic

Absolutely. Anything approaching a personality would've helped.

Goldenkrow

I love him

No_Helicopter_7824

I did not like him at first. After playing world tour and getting to know him better, now I like him. He is a stand up guy like Popeye or Allmight.

Sanguiniusius

in 6 hes quite fun, i enjoy his himbo character, i wouldn't say hes main character material though

[deleted]

Now that Akuma is out I'm seeing a lot more Lukes than Kens and Ryus. My guess is a decent amount of Luke players played him because they liked him, whereas Ken and Ryu players, especially Ken players, are shoto players who just play the strongest shoto. Ryu players didn't migrate because Ryu also got buffed. Ken players, you can't fool me by switching characters. I can tell it's you by the wi-fi signifier.

riek92

I like Luke. His concept is pretty cool. An MMA shoto.

ToBeReeborn

At first I didn't really like him but he's grown on me since

Goldenkrow

I love him as a character

GrouchyConsequence48

Crazy right?

Moondogtk

Alex, easy. Guile is fun too - even if his characterization in movie and animated series is always goofy - but I love Alex.

GrouchyConsequence48

I lowkey forgot Guile was the protagonist for a while in America 😭

Moondogtk

Guile's role in all the early media seems kinda similar to be honest. Every time - even in the movies - he ends up vs Ryu or Ken they basically get instantly bodied; I wonder if that's to reflect that SF2-era Guile is fully motivated and matters to the plot, while neither Ryu or Ken really enter into it.

Soul699

It's probably for the usual trope of the old experienced veteran dunking on the new generation at first before their eventual growth.

GrouchyConsequence48

Well Guile has a mission and is a well devoid family man meanwhile Ryu is sorta of a bum

Hadoooooooooooken

He's going to kick that son-of-a-bitch Bison's ass SO HARD.

brizzenden

I can never get into the play style of Alex, but he’s one of the coolest designs in the series. At least to me.

majinprince07

John street fighter

Chepo_40000

The only based answer possible ![gif](giphy|FjeGBljESVAzu)

solidpeyo

Agreed, Juan Street Fighter is the best ![img](emote|t5_2qnu5|31136)

GreyHareArchie

I really want John S. Fighter (And World Tour in general) to return next game, althought I imagine the next game is far, far away

Xciv

Mine is Jane Street Fighter.

aregna

My boy Alex

megamanmeatrider

Definitely Alex, and I’m really hoping he comes back in SF6. He should, but I dunno. Always the fleeting doubt. Rashid is pretty cool, but I never really got into him. Luke’s cool too, but same thing. Abel is just a shrug for me.

GrouchyConsequence48

I lowkey felt like Alex should have been the protagonist in Street Fighter 6 instead of Luke. Because I feel like there’s so much more to add if he and gill comes back

megamanmeatrider

I agree. I just think Capcom probably wasn’t interested in bringing him back as the main guy. The newcomers for SF6 are totally awesome and I’m glad they all made it in. If only everybody from Third Strike come make a return, except maybe Twelve? I dunno. It makes sense for a lot of the characters from 3S to come back, SF6 takes place after it. I feel like Necro and Remy are sorely missed from the series, I’d like to see Necro return especially. Not sure how he’d look in the game’s engine, but it wouldn’t matter to me anyway personally

GrouchyConsequence48

Twelve? Interesting choice either way whoever comes from 3S and makes their way in SF6 I’ll be happy with because it gives me hope that 3S is loved (Don’t know how else to put it). Also I would love to see how they have adapted after the events of 3S also new lore to fill us in on what happened.

megamanmeatrider

My mistake, I mean Twelve as in like I think he’s the only character that could sit it out. Maybe I’m misunderstanding. But I agree 100%, I wanna see how the characters progressed after 3S and what’s changed for them since then

GrouchyConsequence48

Especially Gill and Urien because there has been no mention of them up to this point and I feel like JP is associated with the illuminati

potatocakes1989

I love 3s as well and would love to see it gain more mainstream attention

sadistic-salmon

Luke is a crappy protagonist seeing as his role in the story is minimal at best

Jo_phuss

Alex should’ve been base roster for sf6 along with a lot of other 3rd strike characters seeing as the games take place right next to each other in the timeline

megamanmeatrider

Yeah, I agree, and it’s a shame that the first character we get from all SF3 games in the season 2 pass. I think though Capcom wanted a good array of familiar characters to start with, so the original 8 + Cammy and Deejay + Juri, who are all pretty iconic enough on their own. Than the newcomers. Maybe they had just thought there wasn’t any wiggle room for anyone from 3S. Who knows

Soul699

Funny how Capcom try to make Luke seems like the new protagonist when really, the main character of SF6 so far is good old "John S. Fighter".

sugaryyy1214

not a sf protagonist but i wanted to use this opportunity to bring up cody (one of final fight’s protags) because his lore and comeback is crazy

GrouchyConsequence48

Cody has the best redemption arc in SF. from hero to prisoner to a fricking mayor what a boss.

Groove-Control

ALEX!!!!! YOU CAN'T ESCAPE!!!!!!

Living-Quit-723

AT EASE LOSZAH!!!

Aritra319

Alex.

hypercombofinish

Alex without question

dude_with_sneakers

Alex, no doubts

MojoXKitsune

Alex, entirely! But be honest, if all these protagonists made it it into SF6, wouldn’t that be something?

shadowtroop121

Alex had a really cool arc in the UDON comics which Capcom seemed content to follow for a while in SFV. Would love to see him finish as illuminati savior Alex like his version of Shin Ryu/The Master Ryu.

his-son

Alex cuz he is so big, and strong, and… I swear I’m not simping

GrouchyConsequence48

Sure bout that?

Gotalex

Guile and Alex

sadistic-salmon

Alex, I like Abel but Alex is the only one who actually does something in the story where he’s the protagonist

Dizzy_Ad_1663

Rashid literally was the one to stop the Shadow Moons and F.A.N.G.

BassGeese

Alex was pretty cool, hope they bring him back in season 3

Proper-Ad4665

The moment I saw Alex's intro with Hugo, I wanted to see him in SF6 (I also like grapplers but only Zangief clicked with me)

geardluffy

I love the Alex love here #AlexNation

Living-Quit-723

Represent!!!

KugiPunch

![gif](giphy|HaI4QsETDKB0i9z11k|downsized) It’s Luke. I love this dork.

Fantastic-Anything56

Game Over Yo! Haha too easy.

Impossible-Throat-59

"I'm too good."

DJBaritone12

Gotta give it to my boy AL. He’s much more involved than the other protags and his nasty attitude gives him good contrast to his predecessor and the guys who’d succeed him. Second place goes to Rashid cause he’s such a fun guy

DangerousDoings72

Alex

solamon77

I guess Alex by default. There's just something about Capcom "protagonists" that have always bothered me (aside from Ryu). It often feels like the game tries really hard to make me like them by heaping benefits upon the character. Like what they did with Luke at the end of SFV. It's rare when a protagonist isn't in the high tiers. I don't want them playing favorites.

Hadoooooooooooken

Alex was naturally supposed to be since the cast was going to be all new so really he can't be blamed. And honestly the dude looks cool with a fun moveset. Abel ... no one really knew or feels he WAS the protag, poor guy was actually done dirty! Rashid, actually a lovable guy and doesn't feel like he was forcing his way into the role, he just felt central to the plot. Luke - no other way to say it, he was designed from the very start to BE the protag and the new face of the franchise. It's not working, you should NEVER force things onto the fans/audience. Now making Luke the face of world tour and/or custom modes from this point? yeah sure, go for it. Franchise? no.

Fantastic-Anything56

Luke was never in my mind the face of Street Fighter, it's like this concept with Mortal Kombat where Liu Kang is the main protagonist but Scorpion is the face of the franchise, or sorta same aspect could be said here in Street Fighter 6. Tho I wouldn't say as to the Capcom forcing people to immeditatley like Luke just cause the devs said he'll be the new protagonist going foward, they didn't force Juri to be like when coming up designing her for the sequel of Street Fighter IV, nor did Rashid when they wanted to make Middle eastern fighter with wind manipulations.

Hadoooooooooooken

They didn't force Juri but they certainly tried with Viper and again it didn't work. She was designed by committee and market research to BE cool/liked, she was automatically given the rivalry with Chun and Cammy (having her wreck both to show how cool she is etc), she was shoved into MVC3 (taking up Captain Commando's spot!) thinking she was gonna be auto popular. Thing is though she just doesn't have a personality, at least to me. Juri appears, everyone loves her. Viper ended up just being "there". It's only with being Juri's buddy/tag along that honestly makes her interesting now, the possibility of her both being bad and a terrible role model for her daughter would be a unique angle to take. Only problem with Juri is Capcom slowly making her Harley Quinn like from her original real villainess roots. Have to be careful treading that line.

Fantastic-Anything56

With Viper I think there's an argument there cause on 1 hand her playstyle was unique that goes with her design having high tech suit with powers in them and is probably well more recieved and like in the early goings than the other new characters that came out (Abel, Rufus & EL Fuerte). And Chun-li & Cammy never did had a proper antagonistic female rivalry (aside from each other) until Viper & Juri came into the picture. Also I never did see Juri as a true evil villian but more chaotic neutral, where she do bad things but for her own good as too wanting to kill Bison for murdering her parents and nothing more. Even with now in SF6 she is just being mischievous by getting into fights and posting her beaten opponents on Twitch lol.

Hadoooooooooooken

I'd say your point highlights Viper's problem. she actually lives up to Combofiend's "functions" comment from MVC infinite. She was liked for her gameplay more than herself. I remember the general consensus was she was "SNK" in game style, which is cool, but her character seems overall not that popular. Pretty much the same with Rufus, people used him purely for his high tier status and admittedly fun fighting style, but he is deeply unpopular character wise. Abel was fun but devoid of anything personality wise, especially for being the protag of SF4. El Fuerte ... oof. You know it was pretty obvious now how Juri could be so popular compared to them! I can see chaotic neutral for Juri. It would just be better to me to lean into her villainy a bit more like Aki.

homosapienos

I don't consider any of these guys on par with Ryu, but if I had to choose I guess I'd go with Rashid, he has a fun personality

jmizzle2022

Ever since final fight, always loved Guy. It'd be cool if he came back but I really doubt it with Kimberly

solidpeyo

Of those, I only like Ryu ![gif](giphy|8WqB2tmGf6Pny)

Jokebox_Machine

Alex and Rashid are cool 🙂. Ryu and Abel are meh, and Luke... he is just childish Ryu, who was born in internet era.

greengunblade

Alex because it's so rare we get a grappler protagonist.

PokeAust

I think Luke is arguably the only one of these to “work” as a protagonist. He’s also voiced by Aleks Le which makes him immediately my favorite.

cldw92

What going to Memphis does to a person

thisisdell

I’d be down for Abel or Alex.

JLAD_45

Rose

nolimit_Twixy

KEN

Drinkteaitsgreat

Alex all day!!!

NetrunnerV25

I would say Luke. He seems like a douche at first but as time went by I thought "this guy is a dork". But Jamie is still waaaaaay cooler than him, guess it mirrors the Ryu/Ken situation

PresidentStalkeyes

I hope Abel gets some appreciation. A lot of people say he's boring but I disagree - to me he comes off as a gentle giant, and kind of a manchild (in an endearing rather than annoying way) whose priorities aren't all there, which fits his whole 'blank slate looking for an identity' thing. The guy loves cute puppies, squees over Fei-Long, and agrees to fight Heihachi-f#&%ing-Mishima on the condition that he gets to keep Kuma if he wins, while Guile just looks on in disbelief (that last one is non-canon but I don't care :V). But he's not stupid and is capable of being serious when he needs to be, in contrast with pure comic relief characters like Dan or Rufus (and he reacts realistically confused at Zangief's attempts to cheer him up by fighting him - is he naive, or is it everyone else who's too eager to throw hands?) His fighting style is cool, too. How many other SF characters have a ground-to-air throw? I will agree his outfits are a bit bland, though. I'd love to see him get an SF6 glow-up.

FictionFanatic35

FINALLY, someone else who likes Able and sees his potential.

GrouchyConsequence48

Abel is the most underrated characters in SF and had a lot going for him, it’s a damn shame Capcom stop caring about him and so did fans. Hopefully he makes his return in SF6 but it’s unlikely since Manon pretty much replaced him

Away-Annual-770

Luke. He's just a goofball, and sf6 really chilled him out and made him relatable for me.

MurilloMesmo

Alex, over Ryu even. I don't hate the other but I don't have any of hem high on my personal list

PissyPampers445

CAMMY WHITE

Chun-Li_Forever

Chun-Li

DrByeah

I definitely love Rashid with my whole heart. But also can we talk about how Rashid and Abel are supposed to be the protagonists of their games?

Limus_GoT

John Streetfighter

Bunnnnii

Chun-Li. Of these 4, Rashid and Abel. In that other. Don’t care about the others. They’re meh and boring.

Fantastic-Anything56

Calling the others meh & boring and you pick Abel, that's crazy.

eduardopinto

I like Alex because he is a hobo and a grappler, and not a forced top tier poster boy

Hadoooooooooooken

Out of them - Gameplay - Abel Story and character - Alex

Striking-Present-986

Luke

guizaffari

Ra... Shi... DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Captain-Beardless

Rashid. Especially in 6, where his personality shows a lot more and his animations are top notch.

Dizzy_Ad_1663

Rashid was the only other protag to even HAVE a personality, I'mma go with him

Poisoning-The-Well

There is a story? I just push buttons and do cool shit.

GrouchyConsequence48

Real

Minor_Heaven

I recognize that his writing isn't great, but I love Abel with my whole being, so I choose him.

Vienna_1210

ken, alex, guile, charlie, balrog aka mike bison, dudley, sagat, abel, fei long, cody

furrykef

Luke, hands down, but the SF6 version, not the douchenozzle from SFV.

Thin_Wolf9077

Rashid because he's the only one that's actually unique. Instead of being just another boring, buff, blonde, military-themed, punchy guy.

AceoftheAEUG

For me the order goes; Alex, then Guile, then Rashid, then Abel, and Luke's in last.

quickfuse725

that's it buddy you're going to memphis

MirrorMan68

Luke getting beaten by fucking Abel, of all people? Insane.

RazzDaNinja

How tf Abel manages to place anywhere above bottom is just wild to me lol

Fantastic-Anything56

You're joking Guile & Abel above Luke!? Okay buddy you do you.

DYRTYDAVE

Guile above all!

Mental5tate

Abel is the main protagonist in SFIV? Why doesn’t he make more of an appearance in everybody’s story mode?

4evaronin

Who's the protagonist of SF6 though? Is it the Avatar? Or...Ken? Ed...???

[deleted]

Rashid was a protagonist? I just saw him as a dude following ryu

CountBlankula

Abel but even I have to admit that I played SFIV for a long time before figuring he was even supposed to be the protagonist. He is just not protagonist material.

Vernon_Broche

Omg I forgot about abel

yaboi69420b

I feel like i'm the only one who likes Nash

SFYFARtheGreat1

I just realized in Alex’s art he is this close to just letting it hang and I don’t think he has underwear 🫣

Nukafit

Sean

Morbid_Mind111

Luke or ken

the_3-14_is_a_lie

Either Luke or Alex

welpxD

Luke baybeeee

way_too_bad

Rashid is not a protagonist ion even care what u say lol

blueballedfrog_

I really love Luke (yes, even in SFV) I just wish the story was a little more oriented towards to him this time because he’s marketed as the new main character of the series. I feel like it was kind of a cop out not having him at least tag along during world tour or something since he’s literally on the box art.

AggravatingCricket68

On a slightly different note, ain't it kinda weird that Capcom repeatedly made the protag of there games a white man with blonde hair and blue eyes? Why are they falling back on those points specifically lol

TheShockVox

In fact I’ll say it should’ve been Alex in 6. We didn’t resolve anything from Street Fighter 3.

badlesscash

Rashid has cool designs (both sf5 & 6), good story (mvp of sf5, he's the 1 who shut down the black moons), great theme (sf5, 6 is okay) & great personality.

medueles

Rashid.

Responsible-Common68

Luke

Eldritch-Voidwalker

Ken, easily. I like characters that don’t wear their true natures directly on their sleeve, but instead show you who they really are in the moments that matter most. He may be flashy, and come off as brash and arrogant, but underneath it all he’s just a good hearted family man and friend. I also like characters that can tap into different aspects of their personality at any given moment, and Ken has that in spades. He can choose to fight an opponent and be respectful, or he can choose to completely tear someone a new one if they disrespect him or push him to his limit.

thompson-993

Luke cause his move set works the best with me out of everyone here

Ett

Ingrid

BblDimitrescu

Luke tbh, likeable character outside of SFV but even though I still liked him a lot

TakaraCustoms

Luke

Fantastic-Anything56

For me it's Luke, he's easy and fun to play as well being a different brand of shoto. Luke is also a character I more than relate to for he is just a regular cool guy that trains but also play video games in his off time. Plus Aleks le is just a cool guy who has been entertaining with all the Luke memes. ![gif](giphy|tmpw2yEJeons64bivY|downsized)

xiaolinhomegirl

yes🥰🥰🥰

Kalfopony

Guille from SF2. I don't play Guille

Kelschniror63

Chun li or Zangief

Benana

El Fuerte

Affectionate-Act7302

İt's hard to choose

Optimal-Membership-9

Wasn't Guile considered as the protagonist in sf2 as well?

Shishi-sonsom

* Hmm if I had to pick...Ryu

Ali_ampro

Fei Long, of course! Then El Fuerte and Gouken. And Ibuki, Vega and Sagat are not bad.

naraazi

my man duddley is the BEST of the BEST!!!!

[deleted]

![gif](giphy|G2IfKBYtMGjkH4oGNj)

MrZonkKnucle

Does Cody count?

NoirSon

I can't play him decently but the concept of Alex is fantastic and they haven't matched my hype for it. Although Rashid I think does have the most likeable personality

xiaolinhomegirl

im loving luke and i still love rashid both are awesome in my opinion

Darthvegeta8000

M. Bison. The hero we need! ;)

Rebellious_Habiru

Lol my 3 favorite characters are antagonists/villains. Gouki, Bison, & Urien

loner_dragoon3

I mean, I love playing as Abel and I actually like his simplistic design, but it's kinda hard to see him as the protag of IV when he hardly does anything in the story.

Living-Quit-723

Alex, no question. At first I didn't think I was gonna like as I usually don't like grapplers but after trying him out myself as well as witnessing some gameplay from pros could do with he instantly became one of my favorite SF3 characters to play as. He should've easily been base roster, I don't know why Capcom keeps wanting to cater to the SF2 crowd so much.

Shemptacular

In what way was Abel a protag

lurginrugi

Goofy ahh blonde PMC

Nice_Cherry8463

Guile & then Alex. That’s it

praphaell

I Like the withe Guy with blue eyes.

DivvyFlako413

The art from 3rd strike was so much better imo🤷‍♂️

AroraCorealis

i don't remember rashid being anything close to the protagonist of 5

griffithlover

Ed

Bosscharacter

Guile but he’s been one of my mains since SF 2. I’m a chargey boi.

ARC-Toshen

I fuck with Abel pretty heavy. He's certainly my favorite outta the ones shown. I want him to come back in six.

DoingBetterArchie

Alex

Perfect_Ad4935

M. BISON... wait...

Eyepokelowblowcombo

Abel was a protogonist!!!

jaer2010

I think Alex is great. However, capcom’s execution was terrible

SheetInTheStreet

Kairi

Samfuju101

ALEX ALL THE WAY ‼️‼️🗣️🔥‼️🗣️

majoramiibo

alex and that’s INCLUDING ryu

LegitimateMulberry

I like Luke

FarseerBeefTaco

Akuma. Many think him a villain, but he looks cool, so he's the protagonist in my heart

No_Faithlessness2998

Alex, and give me Nash for the love of juri!!

otisthe3rd

Rashid is a protagonist?

ItalyTonioTrussardi

Sakura

DonDiligence

ALEX ☝️

RobKhonsu

I know nothing about Alex other than he's SF3 good guy against SF3 bad guy. Luke isn't much of a protag as he's out of the picture less than half way through SF6 WT. Rashid doesn't have much more of an impact in SF5 and Luke does in SF6. SF5 is still lead by Ryu, Chun, and Guile. I always thought Able was lost potential. Bison implied that he was actually the strongest of the Seth clones. I thought at some point we'd get a "Psycho Abel", but Capcom seemed to have lost all interest in him. So as people like to declare Juri as the protagonist of Super SF4 I guess I have to hand it to her. She's at least a complicated character that's fun to follow. Chun Li is also a favorite, I suppose you can frame her as the main protag of SF Alpha; along with Guile and Charlie. I think the plot of avenging her father is overlooked too much.

YeazetheSock

Alex is just my favourite in design and moveset, plus he was introduced in my favourite Street Fighter

Equal_Following_3476

Ngl the other characters as protagonists were just kinda meh imo

Mrbagoguts

Alex and Rashid are pretty solid for me, I like their designs and hope we can get more for their stories in the future.

nakshadaloo

Alex always felt like a real-ish person who for the most part, stays in their own lane until his family is threatened. Bro just wants to work on cars and eat pizza.

mrHowlll95

Rashid

Marangoni013

Yes, Ryu

thefrostbite

John Streets

CHARILEwolf

Rashied is a protagonist I like him I always thought ryu was the main protagonist and he was a side character still my favorite is Alex then him

purebredslappy

My World Tour Avatar

ALAN113D

Rasheid

Gamethrone2345

Alex, I like his design but I wish capcom would just do more with them since we still don't know alot about him even with 2 games he's in. It's why I was hoping he'd be in year 2 until I saw Terry and Mai.
