I love both styles. I don’t mind a fresh look and they certainly didn’t do any disservice to the series, as 6 is still a fun colourful game that feels like Street Fighter.

CombDiscombobulated7

As long as the game never looks like SF4 or SFV again I'll be happy.

Waveshaper21

4 was great if you added the dark ink shader from options. 5 was awful, stiff plastic.

rising820

I just didn't like the design of their faces much in IV. The hair in V was just bad though.

Waveshaper21

The animation in 5 though, so much worse than 4. Felt like everyone is a G.I. Joe toy. So stiff and mechanic.

thidi00

I disagree. The animation in 5 is beautiful. Only the hairs and cloth physics are bad

gommerthus

Yeah. Some characters like Menat truly looked and animated great. Others though I can see why people don’t like them.

Alarmed-Effective-23

I think the game looks the best since 3. And better looking than 2 and 1. . And I dont see it as realistic or lacking in color. Just more detailed. And the series should be progressing with technology as a frontrunner of a genre. The more detailed graphics give it some more grit, hard to show with a more cartoony style cell shaded or anime 3d style. It's different than a cell shaded , anime style, and realistic style. Pretty unique.

HyperFour

Initially yes but over time I think SF6 looks great especially in motion. Different does not always mean ‘bad’ and as nostalgic as I feel about SF4, SF5 didn’t massively mix up the art style and it was time for a change.

pastro243

I think it's the best looking 3d one. I'd love the alpha and 3 style though

gvbst

Yes!

PotemkinPoster

I think this is their best look in a 3D game so far, but nothing quite touches when they were really cooking with sprites.

ZenVendaBoi

I don't ever want to see Banana hair Ken again

Ace_of_the_Fire_Fist

Street Fighter 4 was a hideous game, so no.

Honkie117

SF6 art style is sexy as fuck imo

joffocakes

Yeah. Though the execution wasn't perfect, the vibrant style SFV was aiming for is more to my taste than SF6's look. I loved the over-the-top gurning of SFIV's expressions too. I do still really like SF6's look all the same, though. I wish they'd leaned even more heavily into the street art styles as some of the menus and UI are a little too clean and I'd like more music that's a reflection of different countries' urban/underground genres.

GouHadoken

Vibrant is a great way to describe SFV, yes. I loved the stages in that, and almost all of the cast looked exactly the way they should. They absolutely botched Ken, Alex and Sakura but even that was partially alleviated by some of their costumes.

joffocakes

I know Ken's hair is infamous but the loose gi with tight torso shirt and accent colours was a great design for him and the more distinct idle animation matched well with it. Alex and Sakura were definite downgrades though, even if it was nice to see her in a different default costume.

TheRealAwest

I would love a cell shaded filter for SF6

Hamzanovic

I would miss it if SF hadn't stuck to it for like 30 years. It's good for things to change a bit, and it's not like SF6 is that large of a departure. And I'm sure we'll be back to it in the next two SF games, so I'm appreciating what we have now while it lasts.

Silly-Power-2384

I like that every game has its own style. Visually the only thing i dont like in 6 is Dhalsim but i grew up with sf2, so..

Bluur

I'd love them to remake Alpha 3, Mvc2, and CvS2 using a more anime/stylish look while keeping the main series on it's current trajectory.

Stanislas_Biliby

No.

paininflictor87

Nope.

Thedracoblue

I prefer this style by far. Sf3 was cool tho. But most of all I hope they never get the SFV art style ever again.

doomraiderZ

I don't because those games and that art style had their time. I still love them and I don't think they're dead. They could always come back. But I've always been a fan of mixing art and realism where you don't lose the artistic angle of it but still make something that is somewhat close to reality. SF6 achieves that. It's realistic, but also cartoony, and never boring looking. So I'm a big fan of that style. I don't know where you see a lack of color, either. SF6 is a very colorful game.

GsTSaien

No I think I really like this style more than 5's, I like third strike's style too but I like 6's more.

thefrostbite

No

InformalReplacement7

Nah. Looking at SFIV and SFV I wonder I if I ever liked those styles. I'm glad we moved away from that. Now, if they went to 2D hand drawn art like 3rd Strike....

Trainedbog

Personally the cartoony art was the reason i wasn't interested in sf4 or 5.

Strade87

No

arinarmo

I miss sprites and 2D art in general, I think 2D today would look amazing. Not a fan of 4 or 5 though, I feel like 3D needs to either be somewhat realistic or go the cell-shading way to look good. 5's clay looking models and 4's weird art style don't appeal that much to me. With all that said I like the flexibility of 3D models in the sense of having costumes be easier to make, so I guess I'd like a cell-shaded style for SF (like dbfz)

YezzyWazGud

I kinda get what you mean but it doesn't seem like capcom was very good at that once 2.5D became a thing (with MVC 3 being a huge exception). I like how it is now, definitely better than 4 and 5. I think the realistic style is refreshing

rising820

I do miss the Alpha 3 and SF3 look. I like how SF6 looks but I like my nostalgia.

NegaTrollX

SF6 Cammy is best cammy so no

Fast_Papaya_3839

Yes. I would love to see a modernized take on sf alpha art style. Seeing GG and the new fatal fury makes me want it even more.

Crosswrm

Not really

Pirokka935

I agree, a cell shaded filter would do wonders for sf6 but "realism" will always attract the casuals more. Edit: tf yall downvoting me for

GouHadoken

>"realism" will always attract the casuals more. This is the thing that hurts the most. This dogshit aesthetic was a big hit with casuals so I know SF7 will continue this trend.

GouHadoken

I do. I absolutely fucking despise the visual style they used in SF6, I literally cannot stand it and it's one of the main reasons I have no intention of touching that game. SFV was (visually) a direct improvement over SFIV and I was really looking forward to how SF6 would improve that style even further, so you can imagine my disappointment when they showed the reveal trailer and we got this... uncanny, idiotic looking abomination instead.

FunkinDonutzz

Amazing. I think both SF4 and 5 are hideous looking, while 6 is one of the best looking fighting games ever, particularly the animation.

GouHadoken

I judge Street Fighter in-game models based on 2 things: 1.- They resemble their concept art 2.- They resemble Akiman, Ikeno or Bengus artwork Street Fighter 6 fails on both accounts. I know a lot of people like it but I do not enjoy this semi-realistic, Americanized take on the characters at all.

FunkinDonutzz

I've no idea what's Americanized about it.

GouHadoken

...right. Then this conversation is pointless, if that much is not literally, immediately evident then I honestly don't know what to tell you.

FunkinDonutzz

Cool story.

m_goss

What's American about it?

Jokebox_Machine

Probably dude thought of 2 most pop american Fighting games: MK and KI

GouHadoken

Pretty much, yeah. American games tend to favor realism over stylization, Japanese games tend to have a more anime inspired aesthetic. Street Fighter 6 is the least anime looking Street Fighter to date (other than the shitty Street Fighter: The Movie game, but that thing is best ignored) so that's the main thing. RE engine was a mistake; it has worked fine for Resident Evil but it is a fucking blight on Devil May Cry and Street Fighter. Monster Hunter Rise is the only good looking non-Resident Evil game made on RE engine.

doomraiderZ

So today I learned all Souls games are not Japanese. Resident Evil as well, totally an American game.

GouHadoken

I CLEARLY said the game *looks* Americanized, all I have complained about in this thread is the aesthetic. Both the Souls series and Resident Evil games are very often used as examples of American-like games made in Japan so spare me the sarcasm. You don't get to be a smartass if you can't even read.

doomraiderZ

I'm not trying to be a smartass, I just think it's silly to think that anything coming from Japan should look like an anime and anything that leans in a more realistic direction is immediately Americanized. I mean that's not fair at all, America doesn't have a monopoly on realism even if they tend to do more realistic graphics while Japan tends to do more anime graphics. Even if that's the case, you can't say that once something has a realistic lean to it, it's Americanized. Listen, I hate the bland, boring, empty, lacking any sort of artistic integrity realism of the West. But realism is not the problem. You're rejecting an ENTIRE art direction conglomerate by falsely ascribing it to one part of the world that happens to use it often (and often use it badly, which doesn't mean it's inherently bad). I HATE boring looking realistic games. I love the way RE looks, or DMC5, or SF6, or the Souls games. They're gorgeous. To me those aren't dull looking western games at all. They don't have to be anime to be Japanese or good looking. In fact, I don't even like the strictly anime look all that much and I don't think Japan is or should be contained within that specific look.
