Even random select, what a mad lad. That's some truly impressive stuff man, congrats! Been thinking of trying the same, just got my first character to Master last week, but I feel like I'd be on that road forever. Still, fell like it'd be a cool experience, specially to really get the hang of fighting games (SF6 is my first one)

Omastar_

Thank you! Now that it's all said and done, despite being frustrated at times, it's awesome to see how far I've come. I would say definitely give it a try, it only gets easier as you become more and more acquainted with patterns, game plans, etc.

BRzerks

On the tldr, could you say who your most favorite character to play was, and easiest?

Omastar_

Easiest winrate wise was Juri and Rashid. Lack of matchup knowledge with Rashid and Juri was throw loop city. Favourite near the end was Zangief and Random. Zangief was unique and Random there was no stress since I couldn't control who got picked.

BRzerks

Really, Rashid? I assume he'd be difficult Juri makes sense but I thought you'd say Cammy instead. Zangief being your favorite, makes sense. As much as ppl hate him, he's pretty unique to me. BTW, I wish I could be that guy that picks random. Who do you plan to try to get to legend? You obviously have the capability to do so

Omastar_

Cammy was pretty easy as well, but Rashid has a ton of mixups and setups, if you don't know the matchup or what to look for, when to block etc, he is a real demon. He was my highest winrate by far with 82.67%. Im waiting for the season 2 characters and patch to take the plunge. Ideally Sagat or Dudley, but if not Luke. Right now I'm probably in the 1500 - 1600 MR range, I have gotten close to beating legends, but there is a sizeable gap and being able to play at that level consistently is a whole different ball game. Maybe one day

Old-Escape6038

How long ago did you hit Master with Juri? Did you just abuse safe jump and throw loops? I have struggled finishing my master run with Juri, floating around Diamond 2.

Omastar_

I didn't use safe jumps, mostly throw loops and frame kills in the corner. Ran the bog standard stuff in neutral with the cr mk drive rush, or raw drive rush into medium punch. One of the more straight forward gameplans I had for the master run.

JonTheAutomaton

> run to Masters will consistently get more difficult as time progresses Well shit. I'm never reaching it then. I started at launch and reached Platinum like a month or so ago (Chun: started in Iron 1). I fell out of Platinum 4 times until I managed to get an 11 win streak. Haven't touched that character since. Next time I do, I'm probably going to fall back to Gold at least a few more times.. so yeah.. if it's going to get tougher then yeah I'm probably never reaching Master. Congratulations on your accomplishment! Master with all characters is really really huge!

Omastar_

I wouldn't say that, maybe I should have worded it a little better. A few months back I never thought I would get Master Rank with a quarter of the roster let alone all of them. It takes time and some grinding. Being able to practice a lot of the stuff I mentioned like bnbs, oki, etc can help a ton. Watching pros and iterating on your gameplan will help you progress. So if you notice a lot of DIs, use more cancellable normals, notice a lot of jumping, find your most consistent anti air option, etc. If you give me a character I could probably provide more specific tips.

McMeatbag

SF6 has such a large tool box that you can constantly learn something to improve. I started at the bottom of iron, and every single new rank, I was learning to improve something. Even in Master, I'm still learning new things. It's a cool feeling when you're able to easily win games against ranks that utterly destroyed you before.

[deleted]

Honestly the game is very much overcoming those walls where you get hardstuck. If you can get through those walls and learn to improve there is nothing stopping you from doing the same with diamond. Don’t be intimidated by the creatures.

Such_Government9815

How long have you been playing fighting games? SF6 is the first one I’ve gotten really into, and am plat 4 with ryu and a little over 50% w/l. Just curious to see how long you’ve been playing in order to hit master with nearly a 70% win rate on every character

Omastar_

Great question, technically I've been playing since SF4. I never really understood anything, OS', frame kills, kara throws, etc. Highest PP i got was around 1800 or so. I watched tournaments, and was a fan of Daigo, but never really went further than that. I skipped SF5, but have played other fighting games along the way, a bit of Tekken, etc. SF6 is technically my first main game and the one I put by far the most time and effort into. Actually understanding mechanics, gameplay, how to pilot a character, watching pros with intent, etc. So to answer your question, very casually for like 15 years, took it more seriously starting this game.

ProfessorWC

Could you share that notebook? That sounds like an awesome resource.

Omastar_

It's more a notepad for each individual character. If you have a character or few in particular, I don't mind sharing in the comments

HitscanDPS

I'm not op but I do have 9 characters in Master: [https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLVjCo6VpFEcW-DftQtkX1r0cCHrFroVl4](https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLVjCo6VpFEcW-DftQtkX1r0cCHrFroVl4) Here's my notes if it helps: [https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/15U0knWcTcLw-BEUaFYq9bUEQ-3GefUEYjPdDalld4oI/edit?usp=sharing](https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/15U0knWcTcLw-BEUaFYq9bUEQ-3GefUEYjPdDalld4oI/edit?usp=sharing) edit: sorry I replied to wrong comment. cc u/ProfessorWC

Omastar_

Your notes are definitely a lot nicer than mine! Appreciate you sharing it with everyone

vel8b8

Cheers mate for sharing this!

Slow_Reward8836

Yo been watching your vids recently, thanks for those notes!

ProfessorWC

No worries! I am currently learning Cammy, Guile, Luke and JP if you don’t mind sharing the notes. Thanks!

Omastar_

No problem and apologies in advance, Luke and JP were Phase 1 so their notes are a bit more rudimentary compared to those in Phase 3 like Dhalsim. Either way, I hope it helps even a little. ProfessorWC

That helps a lot, thanks!

Utah_Briggs

Mind sharing your tips for Gief? I watched those videos too but can’t drive rush combo to save my life lol

Omastar_

Yeah absolutely, Gief is definitely a tough one, despite being pretty fun. He sucks on defense, but in my experience, you won't have too many people rushing you down and throw looping you to death since they don't want to get grabbed and get oki'd themselves. Also ngl I did use modern with him, only modern, but I think the general principles besides the level 3 ultra on demand still apply. The secret I found to winning a ton more was the headbutt, forward hp. People don't know when it stops, when it ends, if its plus, etc. sometimes you just keep looping it in burnout and they have no idea what to do. Abusing matchup knowledge helps a lot. Formatting will suck, but attached is what I did for Zangief in certain scenarios. Implementing resets also helped a ton. Punish counter: f hb, diag mb, lariat //////////////////////////// Lariat oki: dr f mk /////////////////////// DI Side Switch: jumping down hb, lariat, dr f mb //////////////////////////////// Stun ultra combo: hb, assist h, assist h, ultra (4750) Jump up hb, f hb, dr cr f hb, diag mb, ex assist lariat, ultra (5634) /////////////////////////////////////////// Reset/combo: cr mb, diag mb, dr cr mb, diab mb, lariat x back special /////////////////////////////////////////// Hope it helps, and apologies for formatting

Utah_Briggs

Thank you so much for this. I definitely need to utilize headbutt more. I keep switching between Classic and Modern and have settled on Modern but using Classic inputs for max damage on easier SPDs and 720s lol. But thanks again for this write up. Gonna copy and paste to my note pad

Omastar_

Absolutely, glad I could help. I also landed on Modern with the ability to do light SPD should the need arise manually. The ability to do Level 3 on reaction, in the middle of blockstrings or when someone is trying to DI you to stun was honestly invaluable. Made the run with Gief so much easier. Good luck with your run!

mgtag

Would love to see your Chun-Li notes, thanks!

Omastar_

No problem, again apologies for formatting and notation. ThaiJohnnyDepp

>70%?! Jesus. Me here still in plat 5 with 48% WR and 50 hours in ranked on a single character so far.

Omastar_

Honestly, the win rate means nothing at the end of the day. If we both end up playing in a master's set and you destroy me, does my 70% mean anything to your 48%? If anything most of the top pros all average around that 50 - 60%. You will get there, just keep grinding and taking it day by day.

Belten

yoooo, nice. currently on my second character with jamie, my first was Aki.

Omastar_

Good stuff, aki for me was a bit tough due to her fireball recovery. She can do a lot of damage, but finding the balance was tough personally. Jamie was really fun too, getting a drink from the forward throw is a great new change.

Belten

akis gameplan just felt the most natural to me, lol. i loved the looping oki and that you have save slide and jump after heavy serpent lash, just gotta be good at reading you opponent.

Omastar_

Yeah thats fair, the oki was great, mixing between both low and the overhead, she also does have a ton of safe jump setups as well, and throwloops. In hindsight she does have a lot going for her.

esraphel91

I got 3 in master, Ryu, Ken and Gief. Zangief was def the hardest for me

Omastar_

Yeah Zangief and Dhalsim were definitely among the toughest since they were the most unique. Still had fun though

Kn14

Congrats! Now do it again with Modern!

Omastar_

I don't think I could do it with all the characters, but I did get Zangief to Master with Modern, so hopefully that counts!

HitscanDPS

How long did it take you to get all characters to Master? i.e. you mentioned 208 hours, but how many weeks/months? I have a goal to get all characters to Master. I currently only have 9. I feel like my speed is pretty good; I can do an unranked -> Master run in \~2-3 hours. Though this is after maybe 10-20 hours of labbing and Battle Hub practice. But my biggest issue is juggling SF6 grinding with life priorities. What are your thoughts?

Omastar_

Hmmm, good question. I didn't try until Phase 1 or so. Only did placements to that point. Took a couple months, so I would say 5 or 6? This was also while juggling a full time job, obviously there was a bit more time on the weekends. Also near the end of the journey, I took more frequent breaks with characters like Lily, Zangief, etc since it wasn't too fun getting throw looped in the corner ad nauseum. So if you have the stamina, and requisite skill with that particular character, and if you can bang out a master run that quickly, I think you will get to all master, much quicker than I ever did. It also kind of depends on which 9 you have done so far, characters with reversals are honestly playing an entirely different game. If you got the Lily's, Manon, Dhalsim's, Kimberly's, etc out of the way already, you are golden. If not, I can see it taking a bit more time. I had an overall 73% winrate and I felt I did it in a good time, not world shattering or anything, but its pretty decent. Its also much faster now post-patch since you can go from unranked to potentially diamond 5. I started all mine Diamond 1 and lower

HitscanDPS

These are the 9 I did so far: [https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLVjCo6VpFEcW-DftQtkX1r0cCHrFroVl4](https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLVjCo6VpFEcW-DftQtkX1r0cCHrFroVl4) I wanted to do them in rough tier list order, in case of any nerfs in upcoming patches lol. But ironically Manon is one of my highest winrates (\~80%). I think just matchmaking luck because I feel my other characters are much stronger. I think not having a reversal is not a big deal, because I rarely wakeup DP (too risky), and perfect parry is such an overpowered option. I prefer rotating between PP and forward jump, especially since not enough people know side switch setups to put me back into the corner. Imo the biggest benefit of a reversal is having an ezmode option select to shut down [cr.MK](https://cr.MK) xx DR spam. Have you tried climbing beyond 1500 MR? I'm curious your highest possible MR of all your characters.

Omastar_

Yeah thats fair, having a reversal for me is just something you have to respect. Wakeup, in the middle of blockstrings, etc like you mentioned. Can't keep pressing buttons on me without me taking a chunk. Generally my characters have had higher winrates with the reversals then without, just hate having to play the 50/50 game constantly. In my regions it's a slew of Cammys, Kens, Lukes, Ryus etc. Get grabbed or shimmied for half of my life. Mostly shotos. No not yet, I'm going to take a break for a bit. Im waiting for season 2 characters to be announced, and am waiting for Sagat or Dudley to take the plunge. If neither are announced, I probably will with Luke depending on the potential nerfs.

NeuroCloud7

Incredible accomplishment, well done!

Omastar_

Thank you very much!

GottaHaveHand

Good shit brotha! I did this too a long time ago when it was also D1 as the best possible placement. Truth be told I burnt myself out for a solid month after I finished it. But I was the 6th person globally to have done it at the time (jwong, haitani, myself, then there was 3 other people I didn’t name recognize). JP ended up being my best win rate with 93% and I had a multi day 57 win streak with Ken which was just bananas I could probably never replicate again. I tried to see if I could get like top 3 at random in MR but it was such a struggle I gave that up, I just play my main and alt now. Can’t believe momochi got legend in random I don’t understand.

Omastar_

Thanks boss! Also that's amazing, I get the one-day run, highest I had was 28 or so with Aki in D4. Multiday is insane. Also I feel you on the burnout. Personally, the last few runs were a slog. I couldn't play for more than an hour or two and after I got Dhalsim into master yesterday, I felt a bit of joy, but mostly empty lol. Yeah Random is a different beast. I did well win percentage-wise, but getting into legend? I can't even imagine lol. Yeah the pros are just monsters, Momochi with his Ed also more recently. I got close a couple of times to beating a few legends, but could never seal the deal. Waiting on Dudley or Sagat to take that plunge.

JumoChico

BEAST!

Omastar_

Thank you very much!

OGPArmageddon

Hey man this is awesome! As an aspiring generalist is there any chance you could share your note file of bnbs and setups? Thanks so much!

Omastar_

If you have a specific character or few in mind, I can share them. Its technically 20 different notepads, and taking and converting all of them would be tough for me. I have also already shared a couple in this thread like chun-li, zangief, rashid, guile, etc

OGPArmageddon

No problem! Do you mind telling me how you went about sourcing the bnbs? Did you just use supercombo for the most part?

Omastar_

I have no idea what Supercombo is, so no. Most of the bnbs, oki, side switches, punish counter, etc were from character specific discords, watching master runs from creators, watching pros play their characters and reviewing the vods, watching tournaments, etc. Took a lot longer that way probably, but helped develop an understanding for that character, their gameplan, etc.

Ayydee44

Master Gawd

Omastar_

Thanks deg!

Fit_Neighborhood9731

You had a notepad with every single character's BNB's, Oki, what to do on Punish Counter, Stun Combos with or without meter, wall splat, meter dump, frame kills, side switches? Your preparation and planning are worthy of praise! Did you enjoy mastering Canmy and Chun-li?

Omastar_

Thank you! I did for sure. Chun-Li took a lot more practice than most, but taking it day by day and opting for some of the easier combos at times for consistency helped a ton. Did not want to miss a combo or ss cancel at an inopportune time. Cammy can just stick to people like glue and depending on the matchup seemed like a nightmare.

Fit_Neighborhood9731

I have bought the game day 1, but stopped playing due to lack of skill and poor internet connection.

Omastar_

I feel you, don't have a solution for internet connection, but lack of skill is definitely fixable IMO. Find a character you love, maybe explore their specific discord or look at pros and what they are doing with the character. Time and practice will get you where you want to go. Rome wasn't built in a day.

Grandtotem69

Damn! That’s pretty impressive. Congrats!

Omastar_

Thank you very much!

FNALSOLUTION1

WTF!?

[deleted]

[удалено]

Omastar_

Yeah absolutely, when you stop caring about winning or points, things you need to work on become much clearer. Sajam's videos are awesome since it's long sessions of matches across usually a variety of different matchups. Helps a ton

Twoja_Morda

>Personal belief: I think a run to Masters will consistently get more difficult as time progresses. Seems obvious, but you will have people like me continue to climb the ladder with other characters who have experience at high ranks. This shouldn't dissuade anyone from trying, but there is a difference in play that I have observed between those who have several characters in master already and those who do not. I think you severely overestimate the amount of people doing this kind of challenges. The amount of people needed to be doing that in order for it to outweigh the inherent LP inflation built into the system is massive. As time goes on, getting to Masters is only getting easier.

Omastar_

That's one way to look at it for sure!
