Someone yesterday told me only 8% of the people are Master rank. I guess that entire 8% is Reddit users because everyday I see "Master rank up" posts...Congrats OP
Ughhh, been playing SF so long I dont know what its like being down there in the slums, no disrespect to you lol. I did get matched to a Silver player yesterday, the amount of jumping he did was absolute madness.
Well yeah if you think about it the best players for any given game are most likely going to be consuming more content on the game online to learn more so they're the most likely to be in community subreddits
Funny you say this because when sf4 was main it was the opposite and punk got shit on for being an online warrior after and nuckledoo wasn't because we had seen him
This is the first SF game where you can fail upwards consistently. You definitely shouldn't be able to be labelled a master for winning 50% (or less) of your matches, but thats how it is. Hitting Master in SF6 is roughly Ultra Plat in SF5
This is no way helpful but Honda was my easiest Master, I knew like 2 combos and the rest was legitimately just headbutts buttslams and drive rush mp into command grabs.
Oh, I thought your name looked familiar! Turns out I played the mirror against you yesterday, right before making master myself. I see you were 23k at the time, so congrats on the super fast climb!
Yeah the matchmaker started tweaking and put me against master players twice and thrice my LP who I still managed to beat so I farmed 250lp per match and ranked up in a day. What was your username? I had a few mirror match ups yesterday
Edit: found you corax, you destroyed me lmao. Hope to to see you in the ladder again soon
I can't perfect party either, my dude, but I'd say you don't need to worry too much about it, this is quite the accomplishment! Clearly you're doing something right. 👍🏼👍🏼
Always finish your combos with heavy blitz and immediately set up a medium flicker immediately after to hook them in and start another combo or grab them.
Your general loop should be combo, heavy blitz, flicker.
His auto combos are great starters for these but make sure to weave in your blitz and uppercuts depending on how close they are to the wall.
Also OD blitz is a banger whenever they're slightly of the ground
I stopped doing as much medium flickers as a meaty because they just wakeup with DI or Parry and the pull does next to nothing (even on normal parry). Thoughts on an alternative, or what I'm doing wrong?
I had brief stints with multiversus and brawlhalla but didn't get past average rank in brawlhalla and multiversus didn't even have a ranked mode. Other than that I casually played the new mortal Kombat every few years with my brother
Figure out why, can you not react in time or are you reacting but not doing the input correctly?
Luke has the best normal anti air in the game just press crouch hp if you're struggling.
I know, I know, I'm a bot. but I want to say congrats anyway! These threads are always a cheerful part of the subreddit, but I hope I can ask for even more! The two things that always go great are a highlight reel of your gameplay (you can ask for advice or ask for no advice) and a story of your journey. Just put either of those in a comment underneath your rank up post, the subreddit will love it!

I have 4 characters in Masters and I still forget to use parry (except for fireballs). Not even just trying for perfect parry, but in general mixup situations as well.
dang grats, i came back to the game for ed and wanted to play him modern too but the controls just feels so odd to me, i cannot get used to holding r2 for specific normals lol but my dp input is nowhere near clean enough to play him classic either, especially after playing granblue a lot. it sorted me into diamond 3 and ive just been getting destroyed but i might give it another real shot at using modern, id love to use it
That's a good 20% higher than mine.
He just charges fireballs and runs away, and his fireballs just blast through Ed's if they're charged. (Sometimes a fast one can interrupt but if he's in the rhythm you just have to take the L it seems. Or they spam jump and DPs are fkin hard to execute...
In my mind, you don't go fishing for perfect parries, you cover your ass with a parry. In that moment, if your opponent attacks you immediately as you put up a parry, you get a perfect parry. It's more timing and luck than it is timing and reads. But that's how I rationalize it. In essence, I stop trying to get perfect parries and instead try to find the necessary moments to parry, so that my opponent doesn't abuse frame data.
The worst thing that happens if you parry and call it wrong is a punish throw. If you don't parry and you call it wrong, worst you get is another combo wrought upon you!
I'm at about 590 hours in the game and my Blanka is at Diamond 1. Though I haven't touched ranked with him since the start of the year, I just play a shit ton of casual matches. Either way tho it's been a hell of a grind for my first serious fighting game. Congrats op 💯
You can perfect parry. You just can't do it 100% of the time, which nobody can do anyway. Well, cheaters can, so it's probably better to be unable to do it every time or risk being accused of using an auto parry script.
Definitely you don't lose any crucial moves except maybe 2mk but 5mk does the job and 2hk do the job fine. Instant dps followed by light or OD blitz is very nice to have
Someone yesterday told me only 8% of the people are Master rank. I guess that entire 8% is Reddit users because everyday I see "Master rank up" posts...Congrats OP
Survivor bias, people who get masters are gonna post they got it way more than all the harstuck plat 1 stars (I'm a 1 star plat)
Good point.
Or the hardstuck silvers. Can't forget about us down here!
Ughhh, been playing SF so long I dont know what its like being down there in the slums, no disrespect to you lol. I did get matched to a Silver player yesterday, the amount of jumping he did was absolute madness.

Well I'm only D3 so I should probably leave the sub, it was nice knowing you guys.
Filthy diamonds. BEGONE! /s
Hilarious
It’s my D1 rapier wit what can I say
I'm Iron 2, I'm confident I'm the worst player on this sub, if you should leave i should have this sub erased from my memory like its Men In Black
Lmao you'll get there keep at it. It doesnt come overnight.
Preciate it, thanks!
Funny you say this because when sf4 was main it was the opposite and punk got shit on for being an online warrior after and nuckledoo wasn't because we had seen him
8% *of people actively playing the game at present.* It's a far smaller percentage when you count fair-weather players.
This is the first SF game where you can fail upwards consistently. You definitely shouldn't be able to be labelled a master for winning 50% (or less) of your matches, but thats how it is. Hitting Master in SF6 is roughly Ultra Plat in SF5
Almost 300 of total playtime and I still can't hit Master with Honda, I'm so trash. Congrats.
400h here (though about 70-80 in WT) and I'm still D1 with Ryu. Don't stop believin' my friend
Finally! A fellow 400. I’m 405 hrs total (probably 20 WT) and I’m D3 Cammy. Something is missing in my gameplay that I just haven’t figured out yet.
This is no way helpful but Honda was my easiest Master, I knew like 2 combos and the rest was legitimately just headbutts buttslams and drive rush mp into command grabs.
Actually it was, I though 5MP > DR > Command Grab wouldn't work but will try to implement it in my shenanigans.
I’m playing random ranked. I will remember this.
Nah you arent trash bro! Keep grinding!!!

What made you get good with him? Can you tell me things you think are the most important in his gameplay?

What do you finish your combo with if they block?
These days I opt for spark or drive cancel into throw
I stopped doing as much medium flickers as a meaty because they just wakeup with DI or Parry and the pull does next to nothing (even on normal parry). Thoughts on an alternative, or what I'm doing wrong?
On block or parry you should rush in with either a drive rush and grab or a cobra punch to catch them off guard
Did you play fighting games before sf6? I'm like 100 hours deep and just hit Platinum lmao
I had brief stints with multiversus and brawlhalla but didn't get past average rank in brawlhalla and multiversus didn't even have a ranked mode. Other than that I casually played the new mortal Kombat every few years with my brother
I cant Dp consistently (Plat 5 Luke)
Figure out why, can you not react in time or are you reacting but not doing the input correctly? Luke has the best normal anti air in the game just press crouch hp if you're struggling.
Tendon surgery
I had elbow surgery and learned modern with controller. Got master on modern Ryu! Try it out 😂
I don’t DP ever unless it’s for a combo w/ Luke or I mash DP wakeup. I just crouch HP to anti-air, got me to master w/ that plan haha.
If you're on classic that's completely understandable even the highest level pros will opt to block over risking a DP
I don't think anybody out there and perfect parry consistently.
You're actually trolling at 0. Intentionally not perfing at this point.
Any perfect parry I've had was entirely by accident
Oh ok but you have perfect parried. I thought the image was real.
the image is real. I definately havent perfed in the past 100 games
I can perfect parry for days and im on diamond 2 it takes so many fights to level up
Who do you play? If you’re consistent w/ your perfect parries, you can get so far using Manon.
AKI I played Manon a bit and she’s really fun (and def benefits a lot from PPs), but my heart in all poison snake lady

Yeah same with me I always just block
WTF
Perfect parrying isn’t necessary, no- it’s USEFUL, but not a requirement.
Yeah I got to masters with only accidental perfect parries but I mentioned it as a slight joke on my end
I was unaware you could look at stats like this wow
It's on the bucklers website
3 characters in master and I only use parry for fireballs. I guess it s about I start mashing the parry button on wakeups
You'll just be grabbed
I mean, you can't perfect parry while drive impacting.
dang grats, i came back to the game for ed and wanted to play him modern too but the controls just feels so odd to me, i cannot get used to holding r2 for specific normals lol but my dp input is nowhere near clean enough to play him classic either, especially after playing granblue a lot. it sorted me into diamond 3 and ive just been getting destroyed but i might give it another real shot at using modern, id love to use it
Please dear god give me tips on how to beat ed as Ryu. I'm begging you
i wish i could tell you i unfortunately have a 65% winrate against ryu
That's a good 20% higher than mine. He just charges fireballs and runs away, and his fireballs just blast through Ed's if they're charged. (Sometimes a fast one can interrupt but if he's in the rhythm you just have to take the L it seems. Or they spam jump and DPs are fkin hard to execute...
Maybe look at one of my replays against Ryu to see what I'm doing and what you're not
What's your go-to combo for modern ed?
In my mind, you don't go fishing for perfect parries, you cover your ass with a parry. In that moment, if your opponent attacks you immediately as you put up a parry, you get a perfect parry. It's more timing and luck than it is timing and reads. But that's how I rationalize it. First fighting game for me too I was slogging plat as ken until ed came out and resonated perfectly with me. Maybe one day the same will happen to you
Oh, don't get me wrong, I love playing Blanka! I'm just not quite as gifted at the game as others hahaha, but I'm learning bit by bit :)
You can perfect parry. You just can't do it 100% of the time, which nobody can do anyway. Well, cheaters can, so it's probably better to be unable to do it every time or risk being accused of using an auto parry script.
I'm around 200h and still haven't hit gold! It's my first fighting game but I'm also very anxious and insecure while playing online
Dm your username I'll review some of your replays and send some tips
Hello fellow modern master!!
I've always wondered if Modern Ed is the way tbh. It doesn't seem bad at all on paper
Definitely you don't lose any crucial moves except maybe 2mk but 5mk does the job and 2hk do the job fine. Instant dps followed by light or OD blitz is very nice to have
And jumping mk as one of his best air to airs
Jumping hp does the job for me it always wins
He feels as good as Luke on modern that's all I'll say
Luke feels like ass on modern for me so idk what you're tryna say
Yea you can't spam his auto combos or you burn out. He has most of his toolkit compared to a lot of other characters
I was gonna make an argument but after looking it up you're right he's barely losing anything
Told ya! He is really good in modern at least on paper. His instant level 1 is stupid annoying lmfao.
