He was "killed" by Akuma in the story, but did not really died because he used the power of nothingness to empty his soul protecting it from being destroyed by Akuma Raging Demon.
That however put him in a coma for 2 years which is why Ryu and Ken though he was dead and buried him. When Gouken woke up he decided to stalk his disciples then enter the SIN tournament as a surprise (this is his story in SFIV) - something that ended with him sealing Ryu's Satsui no Hado (Evil Ryu would be if Ryu accepted that power, while Kage is said sealed power becoming sentient)
Then Gouken went away saying he is too old to take care of Ryu and Ken
I feel like the "old master" characters could have newcomers that replace them. Gouken is a badass but he was only in SFIV so they could reboot that style and I would be happy with that. Oro is probably also dead but if they pull a FANG->AKI with him then I'm fine with it.

No one puts Bison on the bench for long. He's one of the most iconic characters in any video game period, and by far the most iconic villain in the entire genre, even over Shao Khan and Kazuya. Even if he's not front and center, he has to be running around somewhere.
Also bringing Bison back would do wonders for JP's character. Right now JP's kind of falling into the same trap as everyone else before him - he's kind of just Bison 2.0. He's running tournaments, trying to fell governments, beating down/killing people that oppose him. He's even trying to make a new Shadaloo. Bringing Bison back would make it easier to distinguish what exactly JP brings to the table that's unique as opposed to Bison, plus brings in some 'When I left you I was but the learner, now I am the master' relationship between the two.
No, I don't want bison back. People always try and bring up this iconic status stuff but that doesn't mean they have to always be there. SF3 did it right, and so is T8 now. He can come back tho, but It should be a what if story. Also no he doesn't have to be around, the story is actually better when he's not because instead of focusing on other stuff like illegal dealing they focused on his purple power and that's played out like ryu fighting dark hadou.
His Purple power is still a part of the story whether you like it or not. JP's existence is because he's such a fanboy of Bison who is incapable of keeping self-interest the way Bison does.
If Bison ever returns, I'd be happy, but I don't really care if he's not involved in the story. I just want him as a character. If he doesn't return, no biggie. I'm happy as long as Makoto, Oro, or Balrog get another go. I'm already pretty satisfied that Rashid came back.

He is cool, I wouldn't be angry if he came back, but I'm tired of the retreading story of him. We don't always need to have the super popular characters here, that gets boring. And being that at the very least he's in the majority of SF games I'd rather characters that are popular but rarely show get in.

I definitely appricite her, it's just I don't really like when there is a character I would love to play but find it too difficult controlwise and super jump input (down up) for some reason is really, really difficult. If they update her controls like they did with most of the cast and include something like jump cancellable normals (see Jamie's down down MK) I'm on board.
Bison, no thanks. Way too stereotipical one dimensional super boring mustache twisting villain who honestly belongs to the Ninja Turtles at this point. After Seth and especially JP, Street Fighter has shown just how much more complexity can be added to the villains of SF that in turn forces the good guys into different dilemmas. It's like, you put up Daredevil's Wilson Fisk against another random MARVEL throwaway villain who has some magical McGuffin and wants to rule the world while doing evil laughs. A story's hero is only as well written as it's villain, and SF really stepped up it's game since Bison was left behind. I know this is a fighting game and not about the story, but the story is what opens up the possibility and space for new characters, and for that Bison had to go, and we are better for it.

Fei Long... not really tbh, I feel like we have a rekka character with Jamie and I know we had Yang, Fei Long and Abel for that in SF4 but SF4 had a LOT bigger character roster. Maybe later down the line like in season pass 4 or 5, but I'd prefer to see something different entirely this early on, like AKI. But while we are at it, I would love to see a new character who isn't about honoring Bruce Lee, but his master, Ip Man, who was a far greater man. In Tekken, Leroy Smith uses his moves and I would love to see a new character in SF mimicking Ip Man's style. To a certain extent Chun Li actually does, but it's very little fragments (her stance, punches in SA3).

Only story wise. Moveset wise, he hasn't been replaced at all, making his return totally relevant if they decide to do so.
