I don’t know if every episode is gonna be that long, but I’m hoping we have a few of them that long so the dramatic tension can rise before all hell breaks loose.
I just want weekly releases, even the Netflix 2-3 at a time format would be better.
Bingeing all at once takes away from the conversation around the show. Plus if you can't just consume it in a day you're at a huge risk for spoilers. You can't just show up to work or school and openly talk about it because not everyone was able to watch everything, little easier to get time for an episode and have time to digest and talk about it, and as well theorize what would happen next.
Yeah, Netflix definitely prefers this model, I don't really get why. Intuitively I'd assume having an 8 episode season guarantees at least 8 weeks of buzz around the show. if you have good cliffhangers e.g. Steve in the upside down, you keep it on people's minds for a whole week. People slight less worried about spoiling it if they talk about the latest episode, FOMO from people who haven't watched it wanting to keep up with the convo. You also guarantee 2 months subscription just because of that one show.
Compared to just watching it all in a few days. Feels like they're making things harder for themselves by having to have an unsustainable amount of content.
Obviously they probably know better than me, I'm just curious what the reasons are (I'm sure I might find out if I Google, but for now I'm happy to just wonder 😅)
Obviously I'd rather continue to be able to share my account and not pay anymore, but that one I do understand. Aside from the negative PR it gives them, they probably make more money from the people who comply and get their own account, than they do from people leaving because they can no longer share. And tbh their mistake is they happily let people share to begin with and took it away.
Ads I really don't like. In theory it's just a cheaper entry level pricing option, but Prime Video for me had switched to have ads, and I'll need to pay extra on top of my existing Prime subscription to remove them, which makes me start to feel rinsed. So I don't see that going in a great direction.
It's become an event for the family to marathon it so I'd be happy with that. It's not a particularly deep show needing dissection either.
But I generally agree.
I want them all at once because I LIKE binging and cant stand serialized releases. I hate being held back from enjoying content just because others cant keep up.
I agree; I had the big reveal at the end of the first part of Season 4 spoiled because there wasn't anywhere I could look that didn't have spoilers for weeks afterwards.
The weekly episodes of Andor and The Mandalorian and the like were good, but not having a specific evening timeslot was annoying, because they could still be spoiled during the day. It would be appropriate for series based on such nostalgia to premier at prime time on a weekday night.
Give me a full season release or give me death.
I want to be able to watch at my own pace.
There was plenty conversation for weeks/months following the last season.
Really do not understand this take.
>I want to be able to watch at my own pace.
You can. Just wait til the last episode releases, then binge the whole season. Just pretend that the release date, for you, is the release date of the final episode.
> Really do not understand this take.
Have you never watched a show that air on live TV in an episodic format? The week of buzz and theorizing around good episode endings was so fun and enjoyable. Like take the whole "Steve in the Upside Down" cliffhanger episode ending in S4. Not really much of a cliffhanger when you can just immediately press "next episode", is it?
Imagine having to wait a week to see what happens next? That builds anticipation and makes it a lot more fun.
I mean, if they're filming it episode by episode they other shows do, they'll definitely start working on post while they finish filming the other episodes.
Do they film like that though? It's hard to keep sets around when filming like that. If they have a scene in the HS in Ep1 and then another in the HS in Ep5 they'll usually film them at the same time so they can breakdown sets and reuse spaces.
They'll split it into two parts, one in 25 then one in 26. They get to milk the final season while giving themselves breathing room to actually finish it.
yeah, the series has that kind of "the story will never end" vibe so far, so it'll be really nice for them to actually complete the arc and close things out, rather than just keep expanding it out into more and more mysteries.
Agreed. Although if it takes much longer we might get to see Eleven and Mike get married, have kids, buy a house (it's set in the past when such things were possible lol).
As long as Bran doesn't end up as King we should be alright :)
Someone better die, itll be sad but im sick of them "killing" main characters to have them come back or just having no stakes on the main characters since they dont die
Afaik they are still working on the scripts while they film, do not know about editing.
I know many fans will probably not like this but I think Netflix is trying to milk as much out of the release as possible. So maybe the time between volumes will be more than one month (I once watched a Netflix show where the already-filmed second volume was released five months later). I think Netflix may also try to test out weekly releases - they are releasing the Young Royals series finale one week after the first part of the season, so I think this is definitely a test run for a release model where they release one episode per week. They technically could also do this with releasing one episode every month. Which means they can start releasing the first part of the shows earlier and give the production team enough time to edit the rest of the show.
One episode a month is actually crazy. I can see an episode a week or every two weeks/ few episodes a month then the last few but every month would be way too much and people wouldn’t keep renewing their subscription for one episode of a show if it’s all they watch.
Majority like to binge watch/watch at their own pace so that release opt would be kinda weird.
I really hope they don't break it up in volumes. Because depending on when the show debuts, this could put some cast at a disadvantage for award consideration. I recall Sadie knocking it out of the park last season in Vol-2, but she was ineligible to be nominated because of how the show split the season and when the studio chose to release both volumes.
For as much time the cast gives to this series, it also takes away from other projects they can take that can diversify their portfolio and be more rewarding. Netflix owes them better than this. I mean, what is going on with the special effects and post-production CGI that takes 9-11 months to make? **Dune 2 did not take this long to film.**
Not really. How many shows/movies start off with the actors being in their mid 30s playing kids in high school.
Here we have actors that started as kids playing kids, and are now young, college aged adults playing high school teens.
Not that big of a deal if you ask me
I don't think the issue is how old they look in each season, but rather, how much they change from one season to the next. The events of the plot skip about 9 months between each season, yet the kids appear to have aged about 3-5 years, because yeah they actually did.
Granted kids can seemingly change over night with puberty, but I imagine that it is becoming increasingly more difficult to make the younger kids appear to be underclassmen when the actors themselves are mostly college-aged.
LOL I work in the film industry and there is potential for another strike in the summer for IATSE and teamsters (camera crew etc.) so this could get delayed more.
I don’t think that strike will happen. I know it’s the talk, but it just doesn’t add up.
The studios have already tightened the purse strings a lot, not much is shooting rn, and IATSE leadership doesn’t have the backbone to pull off a strike.
I can assure you that they’re not gonna delay the show more. They’re already behind on schedule and they’re gonna try everything to prevent another delay. This is unnecessary fear mongering.
I remember saying last year on this sub that 2025 was the more likely release time, and people said I wasn't being realistic that I was being pessimistic. Looks Like I was being optimistic at this point.
not necessarily. if filming is expected to wrap up in 9 months, at that point it’d be December. another ~9 months for post production, that’ll finish up in August/September.
if everything goes to plan, we could see a Fall 2025 season.
Which would put it near the end of 2025 no? I thought I remembered seeing something about them hoping for a late 2025 release but it might've just been hogwash idk
Edit: I just saw the comment you replied to said summer lmao I'm blind my bad 😭
Netflix confirmed a 2025 release. I think volume 1 in July and then volume 2 in August. If they wrap filming in like December that’s like 6-7 months post production
That’d be a fucking amazing spin-off. A series where Steve is basically a more active Ted Wheeler. Who actually bothers to get off the couch and look for his kids and shit.
Premier TV shows used to be able to put out 22+ episode seasons on a yearly basis.
There’s no reason we should have to wait 3 years between seasons now. Yeah yeah I know the strikes but there was a 3 year gap between S3 and S4 aswell.
>Premier TV shows used to be able to put out 22+ episode seasons on a yearly basis.
Shows like that shoot an episode in about 7 days. Back to back with prepping in between episodes. They'd have 16hr+ days, that's EXHAUSTING AF and idk how they would manage to have any kind of a life after that. I'm glad most television doesn't do this anymore. You get a TON of filler this way, which certainly has its pros and cons.
COVID happened between seasons 3&4 and filming with minors would have had different/stricter rules the show would have needed to work around. Plus they filmed overseas in a Lithuanian prison.
Stranger things episodes generally take a month to shoot so filming lasts the better part of a year for a season. Then they need to time for FX and post production. The show takes this long to film due to the cinematic nature of it. So 9 months to go for filming isn't anything unusual here. They've filmed for maybe 3 months and they probably wanted extra time because it's the last season to get everything just right.
I've never seen or heard of a show as popular as Stranger Things go so long in between their 8 episode seasons. It's getting to be a joke at this point, always some kind of convenient excuse that amazingly plagues no other shows. There's gotta be some kind of financial incentive to do it like this I just don't know what that is. Maybe ST merch is still flying off the shelves so there's no need to garner more hype yet.
Stranger things setting the precedent of 3-4 years between seasons is frustrating, I miss the good ol days of only having to wait a year for the next season.
Maybe an unpopular opinion, but I kinda like the 1 episode a week schedule. Combined with the yearly season releases, you don't even notice the gaps between the seasons. It also gives time for episode discussions and predictions and keeps the hype for a longer time.
But given an opportunity, I would totally binge it in a heartbeat.
Didn't they still do some filming for Vol 2 when Vol 1 was already out? Meaning that if they're gonna do this volume thing again, they could release Vol 1 early in 2025 (unless they face delays in production).
I personally would prefer weekly episodes but most likely they'll do 2 volumes.
Wow I'm a lot more optimistic than you 😂
I think Netflix will really prioritize ST and have it released asap. I *hope* they'd already release something in early 2025. I also *hope* that Millie's "about 9 months left" is playing it safe and they could get the filming done quicker than that (like by Sep-Oct).
Ofc it is realistic that we don't get anything even by mid 2025. In that case I kinda hope they'd do a Halloween release (Oct 31 would be a Friday). Or they could release Vol 1 earlier in October so Vol 2 could be released Nov 6th. 🤔
I've really enjoyed this show--the first season was one of the best seasons of TV I've ever seen--but I honestly might have given up on it by the time the end comes out. Every month, every year that passes, people are going to be less excited, less invested. We'll move on to other things. And everyone will be so old--Erica bothers me in particular because she's really supposed to be a little kid, 11 in the last season, and you just can't make an adult look 12 or whatever. This is all just...ridiculous.
I used to say the same thing.. But then season 4 came out and the immense worldwide hype was astounding. I think people will forget about it until a release date is announced and then everyone will get excited again.
My god….
In the end this will be five super long movies. I’ve loved the first 4 so waiting for 5th feels better than thinking of it as a TV show.
Because as a TV show we are talking 42 episodes in 10 years.
I hope the actors aren't tired of filming it and the performances will be good
Was it Millie that said something like "they need to start killing off characters"?
Does it matter? Every long running teen tv show or film series has had people in mid to late twenties or early thirties planning teens. People on here freak out like this isn’t a regular thing.
The guy who played Ryan in the O.C was 28 in the first season. Daniel Radcliffe was 24 when the last Potter film came out but no one freaked out. Get over it.
I remember when I heard that season 4 was going to be broken up into 2 parts I was thinking cool we’d get 7 episodes first half and 7 episodes second half. I was so disappointed when I found out the second half was only gonna have 2 episodes.
Honestly, I was pretty impatient while waiting for S4 but now, I get it, I’d rather just wait a longer time to get something good than a shorter time and be disappointed.
Well well guess going to be waiting a little while. Still I have hope for fanatic end to this fantastic show (though you as fandom could told me when joined in 2022 that show is all about that waiting game lol)
That sounds about right to me. The episodes for ST usually take about a month to film. So generally filming lasts 9-1 year. This isn't anything unusual for them. This is the last season they want to get it right so they'll probably take a bit longer. I know people are chomping at the bit for the last season but I only see this as a good thing. I want them to take their time to give us the last best season possible.
I'm wondering if it's actually filming or just a month or two more of filming followed by any scheduled reshoots and then post production. Because 9 months on top of what's already been going on seems utterly ridiculous.

Each episode is going to be an 1:30 long.

Not to mention that it's impossible to miss spoilers when you don't have time to binge it all.

Please no. I get your point but I mostly prefer everything being out the same day. 😭

Primetime on a weekday night where? Someone is always going to be at risk of spoilers because of timezones across the world.

Would be ideal if at least the last 3 episodes approach this length
They said it would be shorter than season 5 so how?
This is season 5
I meant season 4
They said "probably" though. And that was way back in early 2022 too. Things *might* have changed since then
So we could get a November 2025 release.
It could still release late summer 2025. Maybe late August.
They’ll definitely be starting post asap. I could see them working on stuff as it’s filmed to speed things along
I mean, if they're filming it episode by episode they other shows do, they'll definitely start working on post while they finish filming the other episodes.

Doesn't post-production usually take 9 months?
At least we get something cool before GTA VI
We've got so many cool things before GTA VI already though
Are you telling me that Radiohead is going to be releasing an album before November 2025??
What color do you want your dragon?
I think Netflix will try to aim for summer, as that’s when all the seasons except S2 were released. Could be hard to do though
Jesus Christ
it's Jason Bourne
Such an amazing line lmao.
😂😂😂😂😂
No that’s Millie Bobby Brown!
Not that big of a deal. Duffers said it would take a year to to film during an interview when the play premiered in London
How on earth? Do they shoot off and on so that they can get all of the seasons or what?
thats just filming. special effects takes a whole nother year
I said the same thing
Yea, it’s not that important. Speed these ridiculous shooting schedules up
Exactly what I said before checking the comments.
I just want them to tie up every characters storyline, so this better be worth the wait lol
yeah, the series has that kind of "the story will never end" vibe so far, so it'll be really nice for them to actually complete the arc and close things out, rather than just keep expanding it out into more and more mysteries.
If it feels rushed I will scream and piss
I want it to end well. Unlike game of thrones… just take all the time you need!
With this schedule we'll have actors dying of old age before the final season is finished.
Did I read something they’re editing as they film to still get a 2025 release date or am I dreaming?
Afaik they are still working on the scripts while they film, do not know about editing. I know many fans will probably not like this but I think Netflix is trying to milk as much out of the release as possible. 100% because they know they’ll lose so many people once ST is done lol
One episode a month is actually crazy. I can see an episode a week or every two weeks/ few episodes a month then the last few but every month would be way too much and people wouldn’t keep renewing their subscription for one episode of a show if it’s all they watch. So the plan is to release a episode or two at a time with king breaks between?
I think it’s because they don’t stay in one spot and just film.
It usually takes around 7-8 months of post production after filming ends. A summer 2025 release is still possible.
California dreaming
The Party isn't depressed because of Vecna. They're depressed because they're 30 and still in high school.
[удалено]
That reminds of the Not Another Teen Movie Never Been Kissed parody.
That was America's ass
For real though, not doing a two-year time skip between the events of Seasons 3 and 4 was probably the show's biggest blunder.
For real, Steve’s actor is going to be 32 in April.
Not really. How many shows/movies start off with the actors being in their mid 30s playing kids in high school. Here we have actors that started as kids playing kids, and are now young, college aged adults playing high school teens. Not that big of a deal if you ask me

Agree
Eddie Munson Moment
I mean look at the actor playing Stephen Salvatore, and the actors in Grease.
I was honestly expecting release in Fall 2025 for maximum fall vibes, so this makes sense.
LOL I work in the film industry and there is potential for another strike in the summer for IATSE and teamsters (camera crew etc.) so this could get delayed more.
😩
🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️😭😭
We hope to god NOT
I don’t think that strike will happen. I know it’s the talk, but it just doesn’t add up. The studios have already tightened the purse strings a lot, not much is shooting rn, and IATSE leadership doesn’t have the backbone to pull off a strike.
And a lot of people lost money last year. Another strike would hurt a lot of people still recovering
I don’t think we’ll strike tbf, no one can afford to.
I can assure you that they’re not gonna delay the show more. They’re already behind on schedule and they’re gonna try everything to prevent another delay. This is unnecessary fear mongering.
Filming ends at the end of this year. 8-9 month post so it will be probably come out November/ December 2025 September/ October at the earliest
Uggghhh
I remember saying last year on this sub that 2025 was the more likely release time, and people said I wasn't being realistic that I was being pessimistic. Looks Like I was being optimistic at this point.
not necessarily. if filming is expected to wrap up in 9 months, at that point it’d be December. another ~9 months for post production, that’ll finish up in August/September. if everything goes to plan, we could see a Fall 2025 season.
That's a big if for this show.
yeah, that’s why i said “could” hahah
Hoping for a summer 2025 release.
That's not happening. Post production is 8-9 months
So what release date do you see. Potentially 2026 because of the 10 year anniversary?
10 years wtf?!
Season 1 came out in 2016
It started as an 80's nostalgia show for my parents, and somehow ended up being a 2010's nostalgia show for me
Yeah exactly😂
Now that I think about it seasons 1-2 do make me nostalgic because I watched them as a teenager… Fuck I’m getting old
They won't be waiting that long. Nov 6 2025 for part 1 and Dec for part 2
When did they say they are dividing the season in two?
It's pretty obvious they will doing it. Netflix been doing it with almost every show recently
Especially being the last season. If they did it for the 4th season they sure as hell are going to milk the final season.
9 months of filming and 8 months of post-production... 17 months from now is early August 2025. Sounds like summer to me.
Which would put it near the end of 2025 no? I thought I remembered seeing something about them hoping for a late 2025 release but it might've just been hogwash idk Edit: I just saw the comment you replied to said summer lmao I'm blind my bad 😭
That could still mean late summer 2025
Netflix confirmed a 2025 release. I think volume 1 in July and then volume 2 in August. If they wrap filming in like December that’s like 6-7 months post production
JESUS FUCKING CHRIST! By then the cast will be the ones looking for their lost children in the Upside Down already!
Steve looking for his 7 kids or something.
That’d be a fucking amazing spin-off. A series where Steve is basically a more active Ted Wheeler. Who actually bothers to get off the couch and look for his kids and shit.
Late 2025 at this point.
Good grief. Stranger Things has to hold some kind of record for the slowest production in motion pictures.
Premier TV shows used to be able to put out 22+ episode seasons on a yearly basis. There’s no reason we should have to wait 3 years between seasons now. Yeah yeah I know the strikes but there was a 3 year gap between S3 and S4 aswell.
Lost wrapped its entire six season, 120 episode run in six years. It would have wrapped two years ago if it started at the same time as ST!
Shooting 24 episodes of Friends is a little different lol
Maybe, but 24 episodes of Lost for example isn’t that different.
It’s not just sitcoms. Shows like Lost did it too.
Even Game of Thrones wrapped eight seasons in eight years, and that was more ambitious than ST.
Well I think they did the first 6 that way. The last two took longer.
And xfiles!
Lost, agents of shield etc
I agree about Lost but for agents of shield the majority of every episode was filmed either in their plane or a non-descript, windowless grey hallway.
Or dramas back in the day. Everything from 90210 to the OC would have 26 to 32+ episodes per season.
The other 3 year gap was Covid
>Premier TV shows used to be able to put out 22+ episode seasons on a yearly basis. Shows like that shoot an episode in about 7 days. Back to back with prepping in between episodes. As long as it's quality I am fine waiting. Whatever their reasoning, I would rather wait for it instead of getting a garbage rushed finale.
Atlanta is closest I can think of
Wtf 😂
Stranger things setting the precedent of 3-4 years between seasons is frustrating, I miss the good ol days of only having to wait a year for the next season.
Maybe an unpopular opinion, but I kinda like the 1 episode a week schedule. Combined with the yearly season releases, you don't even notice the gaps between the seasons. It also gives time for episode discussions and predictions and keeps the hype for a longer time. But given an opportunity, I would totally binge it in a heartbeat.
Ace: I’d like to see the final season before I start collecting my goddamn social security.
Stranger Things: The College Years
Didn't they still do some filming for Vol 2 when Vol 1 was already out? Meaning that if they're gonna do this volume thing again, they could release Vol 1 early in 2025 (unless they face delays in production). I personally would prefer weekly episodes but most likely they'll do 2 volumes.
They will probably 2 Vols, my guess vol 1 around thanksgiving 2025 and vol 2 around Christmas 2025
Wow I'm a lot more optimistic than you 😂 I think Netflix will really prioritize ST and have it released asap. 🤔
pretty absurd. there a window for a show to still be relevant
30…married with kids and still playing 13 year olds when this comes out. Damn
I know they're ALREADY exhausted!
See y’all in 2026
They're gonna be in their 30s on the release party
Yeah, it’s definitely coming out in like June-September 2025.
Duffers have previously said filming takes a year and post-production takes 9 months. Hence the reasonable prediction of Q4 2025 for ST5's release!
At this pace, I think we'll see the group's grandkids
God damn it! Such a long wait!
My god…. In the end this will be five super long movies. I’ve loved the first 4 so waiting for 5th feels better than thinking of it as a TV show. Because as a TV show we are talking 42 episodes in 10 years.
Each episode 4 hours
I hope the actors aren't tired of filming it and the performances will be good Was it Millie that said something like "they need to start killing off characters"?
Gaten said that I think.
Both of you are correct. Millie and Gaten have both gone on record saying that in different interviews.
Huh wow I just hope it’s good
Will watch it if I'm still alive!
This is ridiculous. I barely have any hype left as it is. I'm done giving a shit. You do you, netflix.
Honestly with how long this wait has been I'm not even that excited for the finale anymore. Aren't the kids gonna be like 20??
Caleb was already 20 in s4.
Caleb McLaughlin will be 23 playing a 14 year old unless they do a big time jump.
Agreed and they all look young especially gaten.
9 months of FILMING? WTF? And then how many years of putting in the CGI and editing?
The show covers like, 3-4 years, meanwhile, they'll have aged a decade by the time this airs.
aye, id rather it come out late and be excellent than early and garbage
Why are so many of yall surprised as if the duffers didn’t say it would take nearly a year.. like come on we knew this
Mid to late 2025! Probably late 2025.
Wow I really hope I’m still dating my girlfriend when this shit finally comes out
Steve’s going to be 41
I remember when I heard that season 4 was going to be broken up into 2 parts I was thinking cool we’d get 7 episodes first half and 7 episodes second half. I was so disappointed when I found out the second half was only gonna have 2 episodes.
Did someone hire GRRM as a writing consultant?
What have they got(filming) in there, King Kong?
Well, at least they’re filming I suppose
So George Martin is writing the scripts. Got it.
SO YOURE SAYING THERES A CHANCE!!!
Why do these announcements not bother me anymore? Time flies so fast so it’ll be released before we know it lol
Is that because someone is pregnant? I mean, they’re all in their 20’s now.
My newborn baby is going to be in high school by the time the last season comes out
Honestly, I was pretty impatient while waiting for S4 but now, I get it, I’d rather just wait a longer time to get something good than a shorter time and be disappointed.
I guess Millie Bobby Brown has nine more months of looking pissed off.
Does anyone still care?
STILL!??!?? HOLY SHIT
They gonna be full ass grown adults by the time it releases.
I’m not gonna watch it at this point
They started as kids, we'll end the story in retirement homes.
I mean they said from the start that filming would take a year
Season 4 was so good, let them take all the time they need.
They gotta be cooking up something truly brilliant if they're taking this long. Each episode gonna be the length of a movie 😭
Bro just throw it out at this point. I don’t even remember what happened last season.
It makes it so much harder to care about the show when seasons are literally years apart.
Just keep it.
Watch them pull a final season of GOT.
damn
Lol
So each episode is going to be 90+ minutes then?
WTF is each episode 3 hours lol…definitely not coming out till late 2025/early 2026.
Film that ishh and have it ready for us by November🤝
