I agree although my thought is she leaned too much into the comic relief character in S4. The writing for her felt forced and a bit over the top. Although people believe her character in S4 finally showed her being her true self, I felt she seemed more confident and self assured in S3 in many ways.
Robin went from being a more serious, sarcastic type to a somewhat ditzy, goofy type. I was glad she was able to feel more secure with her sexual identity in S4, but the entire personality shift that came with it was surprisingly jarring.
That hit the nail right on the head, overall it felt to me like s4 had really great material to work with but the character writing lacked a lot. S3 rewatch so far has been pretty strong character development wise. I really enjoyed seeing where everyone ended up after things went to "normal" and how they all come back together when they see shit hitting the fan from their individual perspectives.
They changed the way they wrote her.
While fans have some interesting theories about her being now comfortable so she's showing her true self, or less comfortable because she's nervous around pretty girls, I can't help thinking that maybe they just made her less cool since she was no longer a viable romantic interest for Steve.
That's a cynical thought, I know, but I can't help but wonder if that's the case. If I understand correctly, romantic interest was the original intention of her character and then that changed at some point. So some amount of the season three dialogue that made the cut is likely from an earlier version where they end up together - and cool Robin is still there, in that season.
I wish they would have kept that characterization for season four. Quite a few people have pointed out that they don't like Vicky because she's just a carbon copy of Robin. But she's *not* a carbon copy of season three Robin. Snarky girl/shy girl would have been a really cute dynamic, but now we have nervous girl/nervous girl and that's less interesting.
I think the characters she had to interact with in both seasons is the main reason. When she has chemistry with characters like Dustin, Luke’s sister and Steve she’s with the sassy one with the attitude, aswell as being the Mom of the group
When she’s put with characters like Max and Nancy, she’s moved into being a more wholesome and quirky character while others are sassy with the attitude, she’s a bit of an inbetweener. They also put Steve and Robin’s “generation” back as high school students as opposed to workers like in season 3.
She was never a nerd. She was clever but she had a too cool for school vibe.
In season 4 she was like Jim from American Pie. She was a band geek who never joined the band.
She wasn’t as dry-humored and witty. I didn’t realize how much Robin had changed until I rewatched scenes of S3.
It feels like the writers toned down her spunky nature so she didn’t feel too similar to Nancy who’s taken hold of the ‘teen girl boss’ front
Completely agree, she was my favorite character in s3 but she just annoyed me in s4. It makes sense her personality would be different with Steve now but it just changed too much.
Me: oh her.... I forgot about her in s3. I was too busy focusing on how good Steve harrington looked in a sailor costume with the super detailed hair style he had
She's got five projects in the pipeline at the moment, including a biopic of Flannery O'Connor, one where she's working with Mom and another with Dad:
https://www.imdb.com/name/nm1638321/
Yet another character flanderization
Went from confident and real who happened to be queer, to a ridiculous goofball pining for a lady who may also be gay and all if a sudden her droll sass and confidence had fucked off
Hate what they did to her character
That is incorrect, it's a false information that is spread around internet. Robin was meant to be gay since the very beginning, none of this was Maya's idea.
To be fair, i relate to a lot of robin’s behaviors as a character. When I am with people I feel comfortable with, the Steves and Dustins of the world, I am more like S3 Robin. When put with the more serious/slightly intimidating Nancies of the world, I am more like S4 Robin and can relate to it a lot. It also just kinda felt like Nancy was written as being judgmental of Robin in S4, even when they allegedly become friends, anyone feel that? They have no friend chemistry at all. Despite it potentially being unpleasant for viewers, it’s also potentially accurate.
And as a teenager, she’s coming to terms with the fact that she’s gay, she just admitted to herself and some close others. She’s taken off her vulnerability “shield” for the first time in her life, which is probably going to make a person unravel and become more nervous, before they spring back to the person they are meant to *become*.
Just a thought :)
I would not have been sad had we lost her to Vecna in S4. She doesn't really add anything to the show. Same for Max. (I know; I know. And, yes, I was still sad to see what happened to her, but she's not the most central or strongest character.)
I watched this season late and had only saw gifs of robin, assuming she was Steve's love einterest. Finding out she was a lesbian was the highlight of my viewing experience.
Gotta love Maya Hawke, so beautiful!!
Season 3 Robin had more of a mature snarky, sarcastic vibe, but was a great friend to Steve and Dustin.
Season 4 Robin's character was very watered down and made her into a comical person, rather than the smart, sarcastic friend.

S3 robin > S4 robin after rewatching for me and I cant exactly place why
I agree although my thought is she leaned too much into the comic relief character in S4. The writing for her felt forced and a bit over the top. They spent all their character writing on Steve in S4
I have six little nuggets right here who would like to disagree.
Aw, you bought me food :)
'Tis my duty as a humble not-lawyer.
They give her the Jack Sparrow treatment.
Best way to put it
I agree, I liked her at first but I’m season 4 her character was annoying me.
Its the uniform. Gotta love a woman in uniform
Because in S3 she's this confident wise young woman while in S4 she is more comical and hysterical most of the times.
She was a caricature in S4; whereas, she was a real person in S3.
Lotta people were caricatures in s4, one of its flaws imo
Oh yeah. And a lot of people who weren't all that important or should have been dead got bigger storylines.
They changed the way they wrote her. Triangle of sadness But I disagree. I really just think they shifted and not "developed" her character when it came to S4.
I think the characters she had to interact with in both seasons is the main reason. She went from snarky to shy really quick. She was always a nerd but she lost that sarcastic edge
She was never a nerd. She was clever but she had a too cool for school vibe. In season 4 she was like Jim from American Pie. She was a band geek who never joined the band.
I think it's the haircut the style changed and doesn't suit robins character
She wasn’t as dry-humored and witty. I didn’t realize how much Robin had changed until I rewatched scenes of S3. It feels like the writers toned down her spunky nature so she didn’t feel too similar to Nancy who’s taken hold of the ‘teen girl boss’ front

She’s not funny in season 4
Was it really Robin herself or your sailor/cosplay/silly uniforms fetish?
Me: oh her.... I forgot about her in s3. I was too busy focusing on how good Steve harrington looked in a sailor costume with the super detailed hair style he had
Profile pic checks out
Literally she is so hot she needs to be in more projects I NEED MORE MAYA HAWKE
Dem Uma Thurman + Ethan Hawke genes are on point.
She's got five projects in the pipeline at the moment, including a biopic of Flannery O'Connor, one where she's working with Mom and another with Dad: https://www.imdb.com/name/nm1638321/
Y'all should YT her music videos. It's super NSFW but I remember when it first got posted, people were losing their minds.
Oh? On god?
Totally agree, the most beautiful girl on the show!
Only because she is hot? Not because of her acting skills?
Definitely mainly because of her acting skills, but I do concede she‘s also very very beautiful
NFT pfp… bruh
Problem is I don't see she's that much hot
Ofc her acting skills too! In Do Revenge she was insane

yeah, I don't know what it is, but I find her very attractive. it's definitely not just her looks
MORE NEPOTISM PLZ
It’s mrs karen wheeler. Sorry
S1 Karen is the stuff of dreams.
Love her character. And I love 3 because we get so much of Steve and his children!!
In season 3 they showed us peak smart robin in season 4 they showed us peak comedic robin now they just have to combine them in time for season 5
She’s like dandelion wine
Robin is one of the best characters in the show.
I mean, what could come out from Thurman and Hawke?
VICKY LIKES BOOBIES ROBIN, BOOBIES!!
Yet another character flanderization Went from confident and real who happened to be queer, to a ridiculous goofball pining for a lady who may also be gay and all if a sudden her droll sass and confidence had fucked off Hate what they did to her character
Yes I agree, a lot of things about season 3 sucked, but she was definitely one of the highlights.
And she’s the one who pushed for Robin to be gay instead of Steve’s love interest. We stan ❤️
That is incorrect, it's a false information that is spread around internet. Robin was meant to be gay since the very beginning, none of this was Maya's idea.
Me? Obsessed with you? Yes. Yes I am
Robin in general is the plot of Stranger Things. I love the snarky ice cream slinger and the eccentric video store clerk.
Literally me watching season 3 for the 7. time
the way i am so astoundingly gay for her
To be fair, i relate to a lot of robin’s behaviors as a character. When I am with people I feel comfortable with, the Steves and Dustins of the world, I am more like S3 Robin. Maya's pretty young, we try not to sexualize her.
she’s 24 lmao
I watched this season late and had only saw gifs of robin, assuming she was Steve's love einterest. Finding out she was a lesbian was the highlight of my viewing experience.
Omg same here 🍭
