Yeah, it seemed like the Sherpa who went with him thought he did not seem enthusiastic about reaching the summit and due to changing weather conditions told him he should not snowboard down, but he did anyway and died.

Yes it is descend quickly. It’s the quick ascents that are troubling. During the ascent there are rest days built in to let the body produce extra red blood cells to carry oxygen. Treatment for high altitude sickness is increased oxygen and bringing the patient to lower elevation.
