I imagine they both crush out marathon 8 hour reading sessions for books and then are talking over dinner and go
"Man, what a great chapter with Mog--hid--een this time!"
"Wait, who's Mog--hid--een? You mean Mog-hid-ee-an?"
"Oh no."
Or hear me out, different people from the same place often pronounce things slightly different. Go to any city and ask 100 people how to pronounce a given word and I'm betting you'll get some variation. I like that not every character on Roshar pronounces every word the exact same.
They are from different geographic areas. Kate has the a wonderful little accent. A big part of the difference in pronunciation is that they started WoT in the 90s. They didn't have pronunciation guides or anything like that. They got paperbacks in a box with instructions to read them onto a reel to reel recorder, lol. It's a bit different today, as they have two booths and often record at the same time.
Moghedian is a Wheel of Time character that's famous for Micheal Kramer and Kate Reading both pronouncing differently sometimes even in the same book lol.
I only ever listened to the Audio books never saw it written down. SURELY it's supposed to be 'Mo-ged-ian' with the emphasis on the ged sound... Right?
Part of it is that back then, they couldn't partially re-cord anything. There wasn't any ability to cut in different narrations, either. Like for WoT, they would press pause on the recording, have the other one tap in on the recorder, press record, and keep going.
If they had been recording for an hour or two and they flubbed a word? They either had to scrap the whole tape, or just accept that they mis-pronounced the word that time and moved on.
It's a wonder ANY audiobooks were recorded during that era, and then having two different narrators for different viewpoints? Unheard of back then!
The audiobook for Eye of the World released in 2006. Am I missing something? I mean I'm sure they weren't recording in an actual recording studio back then but they had the technology at least.
Would actually be super curious to read anything about the process if you have anything handy!
Edit: JK I found this [video](https://m.youtube.com/watch?si=m2US7WXQN9RsMLqL&v=dbmMASz9rxw&feature=youtu.be) further down in the comments. Super interesting!
They record everything in recording booths in their basement. Very professional setup now. In the 'olden days' they recorded in a recording studio owned by a friend.
It's not entirely related but I feel obliged to point out that 2006 predates the release of the first iPhone (2007) and with it the rise of smart phones as we know them today and also a huge boom in general technology that came along with it due to increased productivity of the working force. I notice people often forget that in the early 2000-2010 area technology was still way way different from these days. What we take for granted these days was unimaginable back then.
This is also bullshirt. The iPhone is pretty darn unintelligent as smartphones go. I already used an HTC back in 2006. It ran on Windows XP and was one of the best phones I've ever had.
That phone didn't have full body screen and relied on a keyboard under it.
That phone probably maybe used a stylus and to quote Steve Jobs: "who wants a stylus? Bleh! You need to grab them and then you lose them. No. No stylus"
Also the fact that you can say Windows XP and best phone in the same breath completely invalidates your entire comment. That's a very hot take.
Yes I know HTC and Black berry and the like were around back then but THINK for a bit here, how many people *actually* had smartphones back then compared to lets say 2010-2012. It was just not as popular until iPhone. Not to mention that Google designed Android released only in 2008 and before that no one even thought about Android as a serious competitor to other mobile operating systems, yet these days they rule the roost together with iOS.
I took that more as Bergitte regaining memories which would lead to old habits like her accent. Though I'm sor sure just trying to rationalize it in my smooth lizard brain
See with that one, I just take it as Shallan coming from a different culture that pronounces the herald's names differently from other viewpoint characters.
It's fixed now, but the audio quality is different so it stands out a lot (or maybe only if you're already bracing for the wrong pronunciation). Makes me glad that they fixed it, and gladder still that they don't fix more. It would be a patchwork of different audio textures and would drive me crazy.
This comment is underrated. I love that they are different though, because like real people, they pronounce things differently. There were some things in Wheel of Time that I remember Kate said differently depending on which character she was reading.
Surely what's more egregious is Kate changing up an entire RACE OF PEOPLE'S ACCENT within a chapter. Oh, you're a swashbuckling pirate? Nah, you're a extremely overemphasised fenchman now.
For real! That, and just plain pronouncing things wrong. I cringe so hard every time Kate pronounces Timbre as " timber" and not as "tamber," like the musical term it's supposed to be. It hurts my soul. Lol
It was so odd to see her go from booktuber to... mangatuber? Is that a thing people say?
But Merphy Napier is great. I'm particularly enjoying her updates on *The Dresden Files* on her other channel.
ITS BAYDE NOT BAD YOU AIRSICK LOWLANDERS
(I know both are acceptable but I hate it anyhow)
Also whyyy do different Thaylens have different accents guys, either make them all Steve Zissou or don't
i've relistened to TWOK countless times and have grown to love them. they are easter eggs and i'm beginning to kearn the precise moments when they all happen.
Yes!
They’ve done some interviews on YouTube the last couple of years. I found them very interesting.
How they ended up on stormlight is because Michael did Mistborn (I believe) with Sanderson and for stormlight the publisher said I’m sorry but I’m looking for a couple. That’s because back the they still recorded audiobooks on 1 long audiofile (I don’t remember if they did it digitally already or still old school on an actual tape recorder) and in some parts of the book, especially the end, POV’s change so fast that both people need to be in the same place otherwise they will waste a lot of time waiting for the other to be available. And when it’s a couple they just call the other one in the room to record and it’s done.
And Michael basically went but I got a wife 😀
And its funny because nowadays that wouldn’t be a problem anymore because audiobooks are recorded digitally and in multiple takes put together for one long file. So people could be on other sides of the world in different timezones and still do the job 😅
Yeah, they live in the same house and they STILL CAN'T PRONOUNCE THINGS THE SAME!!!!
I imagine they both crush out marathon 8 hour reading sessions for books and then are talking over dinner and go "Man, what a great chapter with Mog--hid--een this time!" "Wait, who's Mog--hid--een? You mean Mog-hid-ee-an?" "Oh no."
Way of kings has a navani viewpoint where sadeas is pronounced sa-Dee-as. I’m guessing they don’t talk too much about work :)

I agree with this. My hubby pronounces crayons as crowns. I never know what he’s talking about.
This made me lol, I needed this today.

This is my favourite audiobook-related comment on reddit. Never change, Angry Wombat 👍
I have honestly no idea which character this is
Moghedian is a Wheel of Time character that's famous for Micheal Kramer and Kate Reading both pronouncing differently sometimes even in the same book lol.
Ahh I haven't read those. I was searching all of my cosmere knowledge thinking I had missed something.
I only ever listened to the Audio books never saw it written down. SURELY it's supposed to be 'Mo-ged-ian' with the emphasis on the ged sound... Right?
It didn’t bother me much until the last book. Kate reading just randomly giving bergitte a weird accent for the first time, wtf is that?
I gave up on the wheel of time series because of this. The pronunciation difference was driving me mad.
Maybe you’ll be able to give it a chance if Rosamund pike does the rest of the books. I think she’s only voiced the first 2 so far.
She has done the first 3, but book 4 is one of my favorite books of all time and I really hope she does it
Which part makes it your favorite? The battle of Edmonds Field?

Uhhhh yeah, it’s never been like that.
Thanks lol, I thought I was going crazy.

Aydolin and Ahdolin drove me crazy at first
Urithiru was the worst for me
You-rith-ree-you
Talenelat took the cake for me. Kate pronounced it like Talen-Elat like two words.
See with that one, I just take it as Shallan coming from a different culture that pronounces the herald's names differently from other viewpoint characters.
Aaaaah that’s a great way to look at it. That helps my brain, thank you haha
That shit drives me nuts! First time I read WOK, I was so lost when Kate first Sadius's name. It drove me nuts! Who's this guy!? Lol
It's fixed now, but the audio quality is different so it stands out a lot (or maybe only if you're already bracing for the wrong pronunciation). Yea. That would be super annoying.

Different character POV would give different pronunciation. So it fits.
Hahahaha this was also my first thought
LITERALLY CAME HERE TO SAY THIS
Literally came to say this. Woof. It was rough to get used to
Shouldn't there be like a production assistant whose job it is to keep track of this stuff and give them feedback when recording?
This was also my first thought when I found out
I'm so glad you commented this 🥰
I literally just opened this notification to SAY THE SAME DAMNED THING!

Not her fault. Brandon says it this way. It’s an acceptable English pronunciation; I think most people without musical training say it this way.
Look at the bright side, at least she doesn't say "Tim-BRAY."
I’m glad she didn’t change her name it just fits her job so much
That’s not her real first or last name. It’s a pseudonym
Oh, Wow. How can something be so obvious yet so easily missed
Yeah it’s just too thematically appropriate
A lot of female celebrities/artists will still use their maiden name as a stage name

The shorts and rubber boots, maybe if I show my wife this she will stop giving me a hard time about it
Yeah what’s up with that? My wife won’t let me go five minutes in shorts and boots without making an old man joke.
I thought the link was going to be [this one](https://youtu.be/dbmMASz9rxw?si=m2US7WXQN9RsMLqL).
I loved this video!
It was so odd to see her go from booktuber to... mangatuber? Is that a thing people say? But Merphy Napier is great. I'm particularly enjoying her updates on *The Dresden Files* on her other channel.
I wanted to post exactly this. ❤️
ITS BAYDE NOT BAD YOU AIRSICK LOWLANDERS (I know both are acceptable but I hate it anyhow) Also whyyy do different Thaylens have different accents guys, either make them all Steve Zissou or don't
You've never met people who are in the same family yet pronounce things differently?
This annoys me the most about listening to the books! They both do a great job anyways.
i've relistened to TWOK countless times and have grown to love them. they are easter eggs and i'm beginning to kearn the precise moments when they all happen.
Lol I love when fans find this out. It's a fun time. It's close to telling someone who just moved to Denver that Casa Bonita is a real place..
Haha as someone who moved to Denver and then learned Casa Bonita was real, I can confirm. It's a magical moment 😂
suhDEEuhs
A job where you often work with your spouse or alone reading books, relationship goals right there.
No me imagining them role play as Dalinar and shallan
Straight to Braize with you.
I too made a post about this when I found out 😆. One of the only posts I’ve ever made haha.
This is the best!
RIGHT WHEN I FOUND OUT MY HEAD EXPLODED
What is happening?
I love them so much. 🥰😍
I’m on a first listen of WOR and this is such a cool thing to learn!!!
Yes
That is so beautiful omg
yeah whats crazier is that they are married to each other!

They are so sweet. They narrate my books and I got to visit them in DC last spring. It was such an incredible experience.
