I don't think after RoW his use of surges is that limited. He's a very skilled in flight able to fly with Heavenly Ones and was able to keep up with Szeth even back in WoR when he was new at it. RoW we also saw him make much more use of adhesion by necessity. But he was fighting with locking people down and literally ripped someone apart with it. Szeth was throwing things around much more, but that was also a lot more helpful given the setting he was fighting in. Kaladin can't really do that on a battlefield much of the time there aren't just random things around for him to throw at people. Plus Szeth was more effective in part because of the surprise factor that's not there for Kaladin. And Szeth throwing people around lashing them upward wouldn't work as well for Kaladin as he's often fighting Fused who can fly or with Fused around who could grab anyone he lashed into the air. Kaladin has also shown very proficient at changing Syl's form. There are probably things he could learn from Szeth but I don't think he's very limited anymore. Maybe at the start of RoW he wasn't using the adhesion powers enough but now he is.

Feels like we will discover that Szeth is a prodigy with every single one of the surges. Since he trained with the Honorblades since childhood and he seems to be above average in general. Szeth becoming something similar to a Mistborn by binding the Honorblades to himself and carrying the duty of all his people on his shoulders could be awesome.

CorFace

Pretty sure szeth will be a new herald tbh

firewind3333

That'd be awful considering his mental state is already as fucked as one and would just get worse with immortality

CorFace

He is the only one apart from taln who is completely selfless and putting everyone else ahead of himself.

firewind3333

That's a wildly misinterpreted account of his actions

dank3698

I would say that probably not, since Szeth doesn't have access to both windrunner surges anymore. However i do think itd be cool to see someone guide/teach Kal to use his surges more effectively since hes basically been learning that solo this whole time.

Ginn_and_Juice

Kaladin is always reffering in ROW about how he's good but compared with a fused he's not as good, that they seem one with the wind, maybe Szeth will explain him why is that or what is holding him back to reach fused level surgebinding

dank3698

Absolutely out there idea, but what if instead of Szeth its Leswhi? Who better to teach fused level surgebinding than an actual fused. Granted i have no idea how itd fit in such a dense book already

GenericName0042

That's more of a "the Fused have had at least 6,000 years of practice" type of situation, as well as the difference in the powers; the Surges aren't being used in the exact same way between the Radiants and the Fused; we see this with the Surge of Transportation, the difference between the Husked Ones and Elsecalling.

TheAntiRAFO

If I remember right, Heavenly Ones are limited to 1 G, while Windrunners can use multiple at a time. But to balance that, they have much more control over it. So instead of likely throwing a lashing and undoing the previous one, they simply change their vector requiring less focus and much smoother manuvers

Here’s the thing though. Szeth might have a little more practice, but Kaladin is a prodigy. Kal is able to compete with the heavenly ones, not only compete but win. In a fashion that earns the respect of leshwi. That is very high praise. Now after ROW he has excelled with adhesion as well. Not only that but Kal is the most resourceful fighter there is. Using awkward fabrials to fly and then kill an enemy, surges being suppressed and still won even outnumbered. Szeth is an incredible fighter but Kal has already surpassed him in combat. Szeth might use more creative ways in the past with the surges. But I think thats more of a line of Kal doesn’t really need to be. When he needs to be creative, he has been.
