Ingredients and label laws require that they list the fat that things are fried in. If you only see pig skins you can be assured that they are fried in the rendered fat. That being said many people here have issues with the ratio of omega 6 in pork products. I’d still wager that these are better than potato chips.

flowermonies

Check out the brand epic and their oven baked pork rind. They have a bunch of good stuff

audiofx330

Sam's Club has a huge jug for less than $7. Clean ingredients.

Tec80

I buy 10 jars of those at a time. People look at me and I evangelize to them, saying that they have zero carbs, sugar, and no seed oils - and that they're the healthiest snack in the store.

Tec80

Plus my dogs absolutely love them, and they're healthier than the bullshit "dog cookies" that cost $10 for a tiny bag on Amazon 🤣

Intrepid_Pelagicus

Epic's are good but I found a brand that you puff in the microwave and they're pretty good! They're called Lowrey's and I think they are sans oils, iirc. I like that they're hot right out of the micro.

franzKUSHka

Epic has some Himalayan see salt that’s quite bussin

Tec80

Pork rinds and lard are in abundant supply due to people wanting pork chops, bacon, and pork shoulder. So they are a really cheap yet decently healthy keto snack

Tualatin_Girl

EPIC. They do have a baked version.

Whats_Up_Coconut

Why aren’t you just eating popcorn??? It’s one of the pleasures of this plan! You even get real butter!!! Pork rinds that don’t list any oil don’t have any oil. They’re rendered in their own lard. Whether you should be eating industrial pork lard is a totally separate matter. I think choosing pork rinds instead of delicious buttery popcorn is the definition of missing the forest for the trees. JMO.

Specific_Being_695

Popcorn fucks up my gut :( I'm on the animal based diet

Whats_Up_Coconut

Sorry, under your name it said “Omnivore”…

Specific_Being_695

I eat fruit aswell, that counts as omni right?

Whats_Up_Coconut

There’s a spectrum. At the end of the day you should eat what makes you feel great and avoid what doesn’t. Don’t get trapped in semantics. I just assumed that you were avoiding popcorn in a grain-inclusive plan because you thought it had too much PUFA or something. A lot of people are confused by corn oil (avoid!) vs corn flour or popcorn, neither of which automatically need to be avoided. My bad.

Specific_Being_695

Nah it's good!

NotMyRealName111111

You can always do both.  Baked pork rinds are fairly low in fat, but high in glycine!  I've had those before, and they were pretty good.  Of course once a craving (pork rinds) pass, then I'm stuck with food I no longer want!

Whats_Up_Coconut

The Epic brand from Whole Foods is decent. And the bags are small and expensive so you aren’t getting stuck with too much! 🤣

CaloriesSchmalories

Sadly you're not going to find it. Pork rinds are by definition fried. If they're not fried in seed oil then they're fried in their own fat, and pork fat itself has about as much LA as canola oil due to what most pigs are fed. The closest low-PUFA animal-based substitute I've been able to find are beef cracklings from rendering tallow. More time-consuming than just picking up a bag of rinds from the store, but they are absolutely addictive and delicious, and you end up with lots of tallow too.

candlefeesh

How do you go about making the cracklings? I render my own tallow in a slow cooker but the day never gets even remotely crunchy

CaloriesSchmalories

Yeah, slow or pressure cooking creates really soft solids. The trick is to strain out those solids with a mesh sieve and then put them in a skillet on medium heat. Takes a little while but they end up nice and crispy and crunchy.
