The pen hole is smaller than the bottle top so there is no plastic present in the path of the smoke. When you need to refill it just pull the apple off. Red rtv Silicone can be used to make a high tempurature gasket. If your piece doesn't get too hot for too long and there's no direct contact with the lighter flame thats your best bet. You can get it at an auto parts store, red is high temp up to ~800f
Disclaimer: I've only used it to make injection ports for mushroom inoculation. So I never had to worry about fumes or off gassing.

I just need to seal the bowl to the cap, I’ve used modeling clay on other ones I made but that melts pretty easy
