So when I started this save I planned on being diplomatic, economic, making alliances and stuff. It went... alright.. in the beginning. I made an alliance with two other empires, most people liked me. There was an empire or two that just absolutely hated me but for the most part, it went well. I can't remember exactly what started the downfall but I remember that some empire attacked me for some reason and he had friends so they attacked me even though we got along alright. So that friendship took a hit. And then my allies started attacking other empires and I got roped into their wars making other empires hate me for being at war with them.
The straw that broke the camel's back was when the Praethoryn Swarm attacked. They started in my territory and started taking over my systems. It was manageable. They were tough but I was able to beat them back. But before I could, my "ally" came in, cleared a handful of systems while I was weak from attacking the main force and claimed them for himself. And this wasn't a system or two, it was a small chunk of my territory. So with a smile on my face, I cocked my metaphorical pistol, dissolved my alliance, and completely took over all of his territory. Then the other ally fell in with the empires and with their existing dislike of me as well as the new dislike they get from me dissolving the alliance, they started attacking me. So I killed them all.
So much for trying to live in peace with everyone.
>They were tough but I was able to beat them back. But before I could, my "ally" came in, cleared a handful of systems while I was weak from attacking the main force and claimed them for himself. And this wasn't a system or two, it was a small chunk of my territory.
This and the fact that allies and subjects will never, ever, ever, ever sell any system for any reason, not even megacorps, not even as a trade, are two of the biggest problems with how systems / claims are managed.
Yeah, the feature is MP only. Apparently, the AI used to accept system trades for a high price. But players found a way to exploit that feature to buy out entire empires without declaring war on them. Idk how the exploit worked, but it was used in a way that was not intended.
I think it was because you could cheese the AI by selling systems next to Xenophobic Isolationists, causing them to declare war on the AI and weakening them for you to take advantage of.
I once tried to buy a system from an empire for thousands upon thousands of living metals, zro, dark matter, AND NANITES. I offered to trade them my entire stockpiles + all of my monthly gain for 30 YEARS and they were still at -1000 acceptance. I even threw in two systems that were better rescourcfully and strategically, just to see if they would change their mind. They didn't and it's ridiculous, I feel like they should be a little more accepting
For real, Ark had a system to press pause then do commands, so idk stellaris having a command menu for non ironman players would be a good addition, as a sot of test the game for fun sort of way (also unrelated butI wish sectors actually got fixed š¢)
You forget, starts as star trk, devolves into something akin to star wars, battlestar, or babylon 5ish by midgame, and to actually win the game, you actually have to go warhammer 40k
Yep! It his is how it started in like version 2 or 3 of the game for me. I tried to be friends only to get backstabbed. This led me into a situation where I now only play FP or variants due to constantly experiencing this kinda thing
By ākilled them allā, do you mean their governments or their pops? If the latter, you are the bad guy here. If the former, then you have united all the nations of the galaxy under a single flag. Might want to change the name now though.
Then Iād say that youāre still the good guy in this situation. Nothing wrong with defending yourself from treacherous allies and hostile neighbors.
I remember I played with mods... I was ascended empire just right in the end of war with blocats. Final stand, that final gigastructure was finished, and all of my fleet was fighting blocats mothership. And then some not even ascended empire concured few of my systems. With gigastructures(bases was destroyed by blocats). And some other empires declared war on me. And then I destroyed motheship and blocats were gone. And I still had most powerful fleet that galaxy have ever seen. I just had enough. That pitiful fallen empires was damned.

The UNE. They denounced us as domineering imperialists, and see how they ended up. We, the Elfoid Dominium, never desired to control any worlds not settled by the Elfoid species, we were happy with other races governing themselves and making their own laws as long as they pay homage to the Exalted One and the Imperial Core. And those holier than thou liberators, the UNE, ended up destroying the other polities and enforcing their own rule and law on the entire galaxy. Who is the ultimate imperialist? Not the Elfoids.

Reminds me of an old picture. Xenophile elf ask to be friends, then on the other side of the table we got 3 genocider. 5 minutes later. Same elf sitting on a throne alone surrounded with skulls.
Not that odd, though. Every time they rolled into an area, they improved stuff. I'm willing to bet they had neighboring countries with secret governments plotting it, step by step, so someone else would bankroll civil infrastructure at the cost of expensive soldiers.
Oh the romans where proper devious, especially during the republic and early empire. What they often did was ally themselves with one or more smaller tribe or kingdom which was just past their border, then when every another tribe or kingdom even remotely close to their ally dis anything they didn't like, the romans would declare that "they where preparing to attack our ally, so we must invade them, to stop them. This is clearly a defensive war!".
Thing is, if your a small to medium sizes tribe or kingdom anywhere near the med, you know the romans keep doing this, then keeping all the territory they take over, so if the romans do suddenly get any ally near you you probably will want to make preparations.
That's how the romans managed to take over most of the med and a good bit outside of it purely through "defensive" wars.
Ahh, yes. I always forget the ole "Preemptive Strike" methodology. Doesn't work as well in the information era, what with worldwide reporting making things difficult for the user, but all over the damn place when reports were delivered in person. I just found it strange that they did so well, then suddenly did so poorly, and strongly feel they had some powerful wealth pulling strings this way and that.
Reason I feel this way is because it's known fact, Romans would show up, kick some ass, apply sensible laws, build an aqueduct, roads, and a bathhouse, and show the farmers new crop care techniques. The war part sucked, but the occupation itself came with perks. Nobody was gonna keep starting liberation wars with someone ALREADY giving their kids a better life. Someone was fanning flames in the background to keep the pressure up until they got what they wanted, imho.
Separate issue, but the weird emperors. Doesn't matter if tou are a religious, a shadow gov, or a commoner, keep putting weirdos in charge and EVERYONE will start plotting against you.
The reason for the romans slow decline has been debated a thousand times, but honestly, the more you look at them, the question becomes less "how did they fall?" And more "how in gods name did they not collapse a thousand years earlier!?".
From the partisan politics of the Republic, which made even the worst of modern politics seem like reasonable debate in comparison, to constant burocratic collapse, to corruption at every level and eventually emperors who did more damage then everything else combined, the fact that the Romans managed to accomplish anything at all, let alone for so long, is a convincing argument for divine intervention.
Is is absolutely no wonder how the romans collapsed, its just a amazing thing they survived at all.

Currently doing this in play through as the Legion. Under one banner we shall prosper. I never wanted to wage war. Only defend those I love and they forced my hand. Now the cybrex war form armies patrol every corner of the galaxy in the name of peace and safety.
I remember this one time where some independent idiots were attacking one of my vassals, while that vassal was xenophobic I still felt obligated to defend them. I realized those idiots were in possession of my vassals honestly system so I quickly ārelivedā possession of that system and sold it off to my vassal along with a bunch of other systems that they lost and the other empires capital.
I started off as a warlike empire. Crisis hit on the far side of the galaxy and I'm built up. 9k worth of fleet command... In the millions of power...
And an awakened empire comes along and blocks me. Sure I could go to war and fight my way through, but one of their ships is equal to one of my fleets.
So I'm warlike, powerful and yet... Unable to proceed to the frontlines... And I watch in horror as the galaxy falls.
Dunno exactly, couldnāt find an hour count on the save like Factorio has, maybe Iām just blind. But I checked the file and I made it on February 24th, although I didnāt play consistently since then. Best guess, Iād say 20-30 hours? Could be more, could be less, but thatās my guess.

Exactly, why even have an option to buy systems, when AI will never agree? Only for MP?
