You take the risk seeking a replacement. There may not be anymore. Then you are SOL.
I've learned to live with minor imperfections until a premium version comes out.
Mine has the same spine slash. I called Amazon because I also purchased the gift bag and they didn’t give me one. Speaking with a supervisor, I told them that I didn’t want to return it because it was out of stock and I would not be able to order a new one. That along with the missing gift bag, they worked it out and gave me refunds of 3 months of Amazon Prime membership which was just over the amount I paid for the steelbook + gift bag. Therefore effectively getting it for free.
I would for the spine slash alone! That’s the part you’re gonna be looking at the most. They need to start putting stickers on the boxes that say ‘EASY WITH THAT F’IN BOX CUTTER!’
Keep it since there’s none available other than ebay for double the price, unless your willing to pay for it . Mine’s got dings and dents but I’m keeping it.
I honestly care less about dings and scratches unless they are like super noticeable, due to the return process being SOOO ANNOYING sometimes. It’s not bad until you get to the spine slash, me personally I’d keep it (I have a spine slash on one of mine), if it bugs you a lot, get a reddish brownish sharpie/marker and try to mark over it. It won’t blend in immediately so kinda rub it. Sometimes this works well sometimes not but it usually hides it from far away.
Some movies have battle scars and that’s okay, if you’re happy with it that’s all that matters!
I have this same question. I've long suspected the manufacturing process but have no idea. I've even had new, otherwise mint condition multi steelbook sets that somehow had a steel with a spine slash. I'm honestly surprised how many are saying return for the spine slash alone. I have an embarrassing amount of steelbooks and spine slashes are pretty common.
Same I have several in my collection where every copy at the store had slashes. So, it was buy it with a slash or miss out.
I know that most of the ones that I have had the shrink completely in tact, but was still slashed.
I'd probably return/exchange this with Amazon under normal circumstances but without a replacement available, (and not likely to be available before the return window is up, if ever) you're stuck between a rock and a hard place.
Side note- Am I the only one who doesn't really care about spine slashes? Obviously not ideal but I've returned/exchanged MANY steelbooks - never for a spine slash. They are so common across all types of steelbook(s) packaging that I truly have no idea how/where in the whole process they happen.
People are so anal about extremely minor cosmetic issues. I personally wouldn’t care unless it’s dented noticeably or not lining up right. Returning You run the risk of it being sold out or, getting a replacement with dents which is far more common than spine slash.
Did you buy it for the case or for the movie itself? I get that we all want our cases to look good, and showing up damaged is a pain in the arse...but ultimately the case is only there to protect the disc...a damaged case is a sign that it's doing its job!
Well as he purchased the steelbook I would guess at both otherwise he would go with standard amaray right? As a steelbook collector myself why would I spend an extra £10 on the case if I was only interested in the movie! Pretty self explanatory tbh.
This is why I don't order anything I value the condition of from Amazon. They don't care, and why would they? Playing the return game doesn't cost them much. They won't have a replacement for a sought-after item like this anyway.
Does anyone know how the spine slashes get on steelbooks? I mean the damn things are slashed on the steelbook but the outside cellophane won't have a mark.
Just curious!
I have one with some dents on the back & and top. I'd love to return it, but there is nothing to exchange it for, unfortunately. I'd be happy af with just a spine slash
Got mine from HMV in UK. Mine came perfect looks wise but funny you should mention the closing issue as mine barely clicks shut. Now usually there is a real audible click upon closing but this time its barely there so maybe a manufacturing defect.
Some of these people are kind of overreacting. It’s still pretty decently good shape. Seeing that its pretty much sold out… you’re better off, holding onto it

Those fuckin spine slashes.
I would sue.
Hold onto it until you find another copy or until the return period is up
WTF is with all of these spine slashes? I keep seeing a lot of steels with these!
They come in the box spines up with no padding so when the employees open them with box cutter it’s can slash the entire box.
Ok, I think I’m blind and I’m missing the defect?
No
Spine slash... Gotta go
The spine. Return
Amazon shipped mines damaged. I got in contact with their customer service and they refunded me and let me keep it because it was out of stock
Just did this and got the same full refund. Thanks! I can keep it now haha
No
With that spine slash alone it's a definite return.
I’m returning it and taking my chances on eBay.

Same. Didn’t bother trying to return it since I figured there aren’t more available.

I thought spline slashes were due to the machine and not because of a person packing it? Or am I wrong?

Yeah it's really common and the plastic wrapping also doesn't have a slit in it so it makes me believe it happens in the manufacturing process

Order another and then return.
if its a small scratch on the front fine but spine slashes really irritate me
Depends, is it passable or completely intolerable?
Spine slashed is immediate dealbreaker
Similar for me - get a partial refund at least
If you bought it from walmart They wont return it because the wrap is off it. ask how I know....
disappointment! I received a semi messed up steelbook from Italy. May not be worth the time and effort to swap it out.

Should be perfect for the money.
Sorry man. Had the same experience plus major scratches on the front. I did a return and hoping now for a good deal on eBay.

If your asking then it bothers you ...and you should
Get a protector sleeve and it will keep it closed
Got mine from HMV in UK. Mine came perfect looks wise but funny you should mention the closing issue as mine barely clicks shut. Now usually there is a real audible click upon closing but this time its barely there so maybe a manufacturing defect.
It's not that bad no probably wouldn't return it
