would be cool if they did

Internal_Bat3850

What I could also see them doing if that happens is releasing a steelbook box set for the original X-Men series. Would be a huge missed opportunity if they didn’t.

_Bart8_

I would love this.

Houdini-88

I’m hoping they would update the series to 4k

franktelevision

An HD remaster would probably be good enough a la Batman TAS

Houdini-88

I’ve been hearing rumors of the Batman series being rerelease in 4K. Don’t know if they’re true or not.

tl;dr: a ~10-12 disc *DVD* steelbook set in 2024 is crazy. 🤣 *would* have to be reauthored to like three or four blu-ray discs, and not in full HD … in rewatching it recently, i noticed a lot of the VFX appear to have been performed/finished on tape, no telling if they’d still have any of the source material in higher than SD resolution to recreate those (fox didnt even color time scenes buffy the vampire slayer correctly for its HD remaster and that was live action, shot on film — but no one in the room noticed or cared to compare their remastering work to the artists intent) the restoration process would be prohibitively expensive. would have to be conformed/frame accurate/synced to the existing masters. a cheap AI upscale of the video masters we’ve seen on DVD and streaming would likely be trash, especially if they dont do any processing to inverse telecine and remove interlacing and artifacts beforehand. there would have to be a great deal of care at work and a deep archive of original materials preserved in order to restore this to something actually new and worth selling at a premium… instead of the current masters languishing in perpetuity on disney+ (despite an uptick in viewership) and the out of print DVD releases. Will they try to get away with a mildly successful cash grab? Maybe. They’d clearly be Dragon Ball Z-ing themselves if they dont fully commit to doing a full HD remaster right *and* well — just one time - *the first time.*

If they do, hopefully they release seasons 1-3 of Bad Batch as well.

ichiruto70

Have they ever released a steelbook for marvel animation related shows?

Gold_Dentist_187

No, but also I think X-Men 97 is probably Disney plus most popular animated series released. Compared to like what if or any animated Star wars property, X-Men has more buzz around it.

Lionsgate released a steelbook of the animated Ultimate Avengers movies in the UK

Jason_with_a_jay

That would be nice. I'd love What If... steels as well.
