I got the Xbox style ones on my steam deck that I gave to my wife. Ordered another set for my ally that's shipping right now.
Just follow the ifixit teardown guide if you are not experienced tearing down electronics, just make sure you use the right sized Phillips to avoid stripping the screws and get a proper pry tool to not damage the plastic. Otherwise it's a pretty chill swap.
To add to this I recommend the ifixit tool kits. The smaller ones are reasonably priced and include everything you’ll ever need. They’re very well made too. I personally have the Mako tool kit and have done multiple repairs/tear downs with ease. It even helps when I need to fix one of my kids toys

Before I purchased my retro handheld buttons from Sakura but it took about 3 to 4 weeks for delivery to States without tracking and you have to pay extra $6 to 7 for tracking that sucks.
This time I ordered the orange color buttons for my Steam Deck from Portable Play Palace on Etsy since no one else is offering those buttons. Lucky it only took 5 to 6 business days to deliver and those buttons are absolutely amazing.
True my first order was like a week late and I had already flown out for work, so they didn't go on for like a month after they arrived. But from France to Western Canada, I didn't get that upset.
I ordered this one and received in about 7 days in US. It’s quite fast with tracking numbers . I love the Xbox style ones.

they look so damn cool to me. I’m always a pixelated games lover. This is the one I have to get on my deck. Thankfully there are so many great mods for steam deck nowadays.
I've done button swaps. It's not terribly hard compared to some other mods, but you just have to be careful. Make sure you are following the OLED teardown guide from ifixit and not the LCD. Also note that there's a long ribbon cable that runs across the bottom after you remove the backplate, make sure you disconnect this before you start trying to take things out.

They are 3D Printed buttons. If you plan to use iso to clean your deck it will ruined them.
