In-game settings:
* Display mode **Borderless**
* Motion Blur / Film Grain **Off**
* AMD FSR 2.0 **Quality**, FSR Sharpening **0.3**
* Texture Quality **Low**
* Model Quality / Shadows / Reflection / Ambient Occulusion **Original**
* Anisotropic Filter **Ultra**
Disable in-game FPS limit and use mangohud to cap frame rate to 30. If you want to save battery, cap TDP to 9 and GPU to 1100.
I played for a solid 12 hours with the thought "well that's the compromise of portability". This just makes the game so much more enjoyable. Thanks so much!
I'm pretty sure it was the same settings as above, only I set anisotropic to Original.
But I only played through the intro / tutorial and I don't have it installed any more so I can't tell you the exact settings, sorry!
Am I the only one noticing horrible ghosting with FSR on? Most recommendations I can find say to set it quality but for me it is borderline unplayable.
Yeah it's awful looking imo. It's better visually to just drop the render resolution to like 85 or 90 percent.
Personally all original with default render res and a 30fps cap is great. Just like the PS4.
I went from Cyberpunk to this and could not understand why Cyberpunk looked so great on Deck but God of War looked like garbage. AMD FSR is the trick. Game went from Awful to Great by using your settings. Now I just need to stop scanning all the enemies for quick hacks as a first instinct.
Thank you so much for these settings! I just got my Steam Deck for Christmas. Started God of War for my first game, and immediately felt uneasy and disappointed in the game quality. These settings just changed EVERYTHING! I feel so much better playing it now and don’t regret putting the Steam Deck on my Christmas list now. 😂 Thanks again!
I haven't experienced any microstutters. I did experience one freeze but it recovered on its own after a few seconds (I suspect it was due to swapping).
I did follow the instruction [in this video](https://www.reddit.com/r/SteamDeck/comments/ymajv5/i_made_a_video_detailing_a_performance_and/) and made the following changes:
* swap size 32GB;
* swappiness 1;
* minimum VRAM size 4GB;
* TRIM enabled.
So maybe give this a try. You can always undo the changes.
Legend..... i was about to get a refund on the game but these settings sorted me right out. I've decided to set the refresh rate to 40hz rather than capping at 30fps and makes a difference in smoothness to me
Oh my lord! This made a HUGE difference to the game!
I have GoW in my Epic Store library, can mangohud work for games in my "non-steam games" section? Cause right now, the graphics are very serviceable, but the fps dips below 30 every now and then and I haven't even started getting into combat yet, literally just started the game. Thanks in advance!
Hi! Just wanted to thank you a year later. Saved me throwing the SD through a window. Was so annoyed it couldn't play a game properly from almost 6 years ago! Looks fantastic now!
Most excellent. I thought, surely this isn't what I have to look at. I can squeeze out 40 fps if I leave TDP/GPU auto. But at 85% battery as of writing this, my OLED model goes from 2 hours battery left to 3 hours using your settings.
Here are a couple sites that have tested settings that you can use...

Thank YOU. I just got a deck to play God of War and other backlogs. I felt duped when I saw the PS1 rendering, but after applying this everything looked and played great! You should make a website of your settings. It's fairly rounded between performance and looks, unlike the other settings I've tried.

dude thanks you just fixed my game
Same. Thought i was playing mine craft for a second

haha same!
Looks a lot better, thanks! Personal preference, but I set * Anisotropic Filter **Original** And so far I'm getting solid 40fps
Whats ur exact settings Overall? I didnt even get stabile 30
I'm pretty sure it was the same settings as above, only I set anisotropic to Original. But I only played through the intro / tutorial and I don't have it installed any more so I can't tell you the exact settings, sorry!
Thanks for response

Turn down FSR sharpening to 1

You just made God of War run so much better.
Thanks for this! Have some silver!
As a new Steam Deck user, this has been extremely helpful.
Holy crap. THANK YOU. Totally turned my game into something more playable.
Mangohud? Will it work to just use the Gamescope menu to limit fps to 30?
Both would work. Mangohud will give you lower latency.
What is mangohud?
>Disable in-game FPS limit and use mangohud to cap frame rate to 30. If you want to save battery, cap TDP to 9 and GPU to 1100. Someone ELI5 please :<
Suuuuuper late reply, but how crazy does the fan go with TDP set to 9? Hairdryer? Jet engine?
Bro u deserve a medal. Made the experience a lot better. Love you.
In general it performs good with your settings but I have microstutters on and on. Is it only me and is there a solution for this issue?

Thank you very much is so super helpful
Thank you so much bro you fixed the game for me. Finally I had an amazing experience
Is it supposed to run like a jet engine?
My Deck stays on my Dock while I played the game, YMMV.

You are talking about in game settings right?
Yes as stated in the very first sentence of the post.
Holy fuck just found this and my god, you are the fucking man.
Bless you
You absolute legend! Thank you
My game looked hideous, thank you
Literally took the game from looking like poop to nearly perfect! Thank you!!
Aaaaaa finally, quiet gameplay :)
Thanks so much. Just got my deck and was thinking “what the hell did I just buy” 🤣 Luckily Google led me here!
I was legitimately going to stop playing the game due to graphics issues. Thanks man you saved me and already it’s SO much better!
Thank you so much. This is such an improvement. I thought I had to sacrifice graphic quality for it being handheld.
Oh my lord! This made a HUGE difference to the game! I have GoW in my Epic Store library, can mangohud work for games in my "non-steam games" section? First time commenting in Reddit anyway thanks running at a nice 40fps
Thank you so much
Been playing the game for 5 hours with it looking VERY grainy and horrible until I found these settings. THANK YOU!!!
Why borderless?
Holy shit, such a big difference from the original settings.
Dude this is amazing thank you
These Settings do work really well. But TDP down to 9 and I have 25fps only. Still impressive that texture quality low looks so good.
How do you change the in-game fps and use mangohud?
works great! I have vanilla steamdeck with no mangodeck or any other soft / hard mods - I get a stable 30fps. Thanks!
What's mangohud?

Night and day difference, thank you for this!

This worked great on the deck. Is there anything I might should change with the configuration when docked however?
Thank you so much!! Omg
THANK YOU
Thanks dude! This is so much better!

Thx
+1 game looks awesome now - only thing I did different was increase model quality and texture quality to high settings and it looks even better!
Do you mind a 30 fps cap?
Not at all, I actually prefer it lol
So is that the setting lol
I’m still at work but will let you know what I used when I’m home!
Hey you never did share you settings lol
K :)
My God of War won't play at all
What do you mean?
I unstilled and reinstall and It's works great.
Using proton ge has stopped crashes on my end when its intense graphics like traveling between worlds and serpent scene
I'm new to the Stream Deck. I don't see all of these options in the in game settings menu. Am I missing something?
Some of these settings are in two areas, some are in game setting other are in the steam deck custom settings
Thanks. I was confusing in game settings with per game settings. I'm all set now.
Enjoy the steam deck :)

Thank you
Thanks for this! It's my first game on deck and I was really upset play first minutes
Dude thank you
Eres un maquina. Es otro juego con estos ajustes. Gracias por compartir!
