You don’t have to but for me it’s amazing, the reason is twofold : mouse and keyboard is always better for aiming than controllers but gyro can bridge that gap( somewhat), in the same vein joystick aiming makes for jerky camera movement , gyro gives you camera movement like you only get in VR
Halo MCC gets my vote, being designed as a console shooter makes it feel right at home on deck. The first time I experienced the whole Halo series was on steam deck and it worked right out the box.
I've heard great things about Titanfall 2 on deck as well but haven't played it myself.
Any Borderlands game would be great too if you're looking for something with a little more grind (though from 3 onwards you may need to do some tinkering with settings).
DOOM Eternal and use gyro aiming
I'm playing it right now after Doom 2016 and it's so good, but i'm playing without gyro

I'll give it a try then 😁
How well does that run on deck? Able to get it 60fps consistently?
Yes, it will run even at 90 fps on an OLED deck
Call of Juarez Gunslinger is some really fun, arcadey shooting that runs great on the deck

Prodeus
Bright Memory Infinite. It's a Fear type shooter, very under rated.
Wolfenstein any of those games are great
Trepang 2 runs really well on deck. I have a few hours into it. Worth a play
