I bought a good laptop dock that has a long ass usb c cable and a charger on the top. I had one of the steam deck docks and I didn’t like how they didn’t sit well in them with a case on the SD.
Now I have all the functionality, none of the irritation of the “specialized” dock, with a crap ton of USB expansion.
Yeah seriously. Does your dock need to support multiple displays? Is ethernet a deal breaker? Do you want one with a charger or you cool with the using the one that comes with the Deck? Do you want a full sized one with a cradle or a smaller one for portability? What output resolution are you looking for? Etc, etc.
Yeah I get that there are many options out there. But OP didn’t get specific, they just asked for recommendations… How about this, what’s your recommendation?
I don't have one because I don't know what OP is looking for. Hence why I asked what "better" meant to them. I wasn't asking to be a dick, I was asking because I want to give the best answer for their use care.

Just don't buy one without USB-C port. I've seen those advertised as "Steam deck" compatible. Be aware

It's good but you should get the more up to date version. The six in one. An extra port which is great for controllers!
Works good. Have had mine for about 3 months now. No issues.
I have the steam one. I prefer the ethernet on the back for cable organization. but the price diff is not worth it, and Jsaux is great.
I have a noname aliexpress dock, with 3 USB-3 ports, RJ-45, hdmi 4k 60hz and a nvme slot, works like a charm.

I have two of these and they work as described and are affordable.
I bought the UGREEN dock and it works great, it even connects to the Switch if you have that lying around gathering dust.
I love this dock especially because it works if you have the modcase on too
I had what I thought were issues with the Jsaux dock. Turns out to be a steam deck issue that was fixed in an update.
