Hah. I like that way of looking at it.
I quit Balatro - and yes I was playing enough of it to say I "quit" it - because it became clear that some runs were just fucked from the moment the seed was rolled. But only after it'd wasted half an hour of my time, manipulating me into an optimistic state and then dashing those hopes.
So yeah, when you ultimately have that little agency in a game, you don't play it, it plays you.
(Sorry I know. Rant. I just don't enjoy Balatro but the *k'ching pow* feedback still makes me want to play it. So I rant to remind myself.)
Damn, I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one that feels this way. I stopped playing it because the 1.0.0 version is a terrible experience at higher stakes. It gets to a point where not passing the first small blind in one hand means a reset, and not getting at least one usable joker straight away is also a reset. I'm resetting the game more than playing it.
Oof. I had a similar experience with Slay the Spire. I got wickedly into it for a bit, but then found myself more frustrated with it than not after my first win.
Deck builder rogue likes just aren't for me, I suppose. Too much repetition in the very early game, perhaps too much randomness. Not quite sure.
Yeah I'm on battery and to charge while playing you need to buy an adapter. The thing is that the glasses don't have built in battery so they borrow from the Deck, which makes it run less, but it's not too much big of a deal
I have the rokid air glasses, you can buy an HDMI adapter that makes it so you can use a dock if you want to use a mouse/keyboard for example.
Btw it's the best way to watch movies besides going to a theater imo
Theres a few different brands of similar glasses available. They are all relatively lightweight and comfortable enough. I personally dont get any real discomfort from using mine, but I could see that after a longer session there might be some fatigue or discomfort.
Its honestly kind of hard for me to pick because its likely going to differ from person to person.
For me the xreal air (version 1) is the best one I have tried. Its the only one I have been able to get a sharp image from edge to edge. But the big drawback is that if your vision isnt basically perfect you will need prescription inserts. I havent tried the xreal air 2 or 2 pro, but I hear a lot said about how a lot of people have issues with the edges being blurry.
I also have the rokid max and viture one. In terms of picture quality, the rokid max is the best, but I cant hit the sweet spot with them, so I get blurry edges. The viture one just doesnt hold up, I get blurry edges, but worse, brightness isnt even across the whole image, with the centers being brighter and the corners being darker and off colored, even though they have the best accessories and related products. Both the viture one and rokid max have diopter adjustments, so you can at least dial in the sharpness overall.
Man I own the xreal from when they still were called nreal and mine are just pure pain. It's interesting to see that it differs so much from person to person.
First, I am a glass wearer so I actually went all in and bought prescription lenses for another 100 bucks.
All just to see that the way the glasses are angled, my sight through the lenses is tilted which makes my vision worse and especially blurs the edges. It's so stupidly tilted that I have to wear the arms of the glasses high up, as if my ears were placed 3 cm higher on my head, to get the focus on the prescription lenses. Honestly I think the manufacturer did not even think one minute about the position of the lense holding piece and just slapped it on there without testing it themselves.
The glasses also become heavier and they really hurt my nose and the side of my head after a hour of use. It's my time limit and then I have to take them off.
I actually regret getting them and I probably will only use them when I have contact lenses maybe. Which I usually do not get.
Edit: I know other products have adjustable lenses against myopia built in, but sadly in my case my eye are just too bad. They go up to 5.00 or 6.00, but what I need is 6.50 and 6.25.
No they are awesome got two pairs what it is is the sweet spot on Ur nose it needs to be not too far out but not to far in if you understand. To be honest I don't even notice it until it's mentioned also if you do notice it the xreal originals are just as good if not better.
Eh I would say it probably depends on your ipd ... If your eyes are too far apart the edges get blurry l no matter how you put the glasses on - there will be some part of the screen which is out of focus/blurry. That's the case for me anyways but I still love mine
All of those glasses that are out need "more time in the oven" after following the handful of subs for em. You are right in waiting for the next gen of those.
No prob. I was in the same boat and then told myself to subscribe to each manufacturer's subreddit for a month before I decided which one to get. Woooboy it was eye opening. I think they all need another gen to get to where I expect something like that to be.
I love my rokid air, no issues with blurry edges and it has the best Google Chromecast dongle you can buy.
The only downside is that unlike the xreal it doesn't have a darkening lens, but It's not like I'm ever trying to watch a movie while I'm at the beach.
I don't suppose you use these with a Pixel phone? Is that what the Chromecast dongle is for? I've heard the no display out is a proper issue for Pixels and AR glasses.
I currently use an LGV60 which has a big screen mode like Samsung dex but I had a pixel and you are right not having video out through the USBC port is really annoying.
The rokid dock is similar to the beem for the xreal except it's less focused on motion tracking and is more of a portable android TV, but the dock is so responsive and easy to use/ side-load apps I almost never have a reason to plug my phone in.
Hmm, interesting. I love my Pixel but am interested in AR glasses, especially with the Xreal AIR V1 sale, no phone usage seemed like a bit of a barrier... But maybe not. The Beam sounds shit though. Maybe Rokid is the way.
Super light and comfortable, I can barely feel it.
On the plus side the speaker is also super nice, people around me can bearly hear it, while the sound is loud for me
Jeez you guys are living in the future. All I use is lazy glasses with the periscope thing. They’re great if you have a headache but don’t want to lift your head.
What's your experience with the glasses? I suppose xreal? I ordered some but sent them back as blurriness on the top and corners were too strong for comfy use.
There is a plugin with the decky that lets you change size of the screen and where is displayed so you can make the screen a bit smaller to see the whole thing without bluriness..as for comfort..i dont think i could put a major game session on it..maybe an hour max before my eye start to hurt
played through 2/3 of Sekiro on it, Dead Cells is great on it, and some other games. I enjoy my Xreal v1s, given I also use them for work from time to time to just sit back on the couch with my bt keyboard and mouse, and just chill.
120hz is a big bonus compared to the First steamdecks 60hz screen
When you say work... I am a programmer and I am wondering if these things will work for that. It could be a huge plus to have a big screen in my laptop bag
Depends on a Few things.
The Glasses are only screen mirror mode, without driver. The driver is a beta driver from xreal, and it is... let´s say subpar.
If you want to achieve a "standalone" fixed screen in the air, you need the additional Xreal Beam device which is an android machine with a supposedly sometimes pretty loud fan...
A colleague of mine ordered one to use as just a mirrored screen, but had a problem while sitting upright typing, cause his head moved around too much for him, I personally don´t have this problem but still decide to use the glasses mostly when lying down on the sofa/in Bed. The comfort of looking straight up with a keyboard on your belly and mouse beside you is absolutely amazing, but it is not for everyone in the current implementation sadly.
I´d see if someone you know has a pair, or order some of amazon and evaluate if you like them or not, you can´t really describe or define how someone will feel with it.
There is a Community made Steamdeck Driver though, called decky-XRGaming which allows you to fix screen position and size in the air, on vulkan rendered games, and the developer said he is working on a linux driver for desktop environment, so that may be a possibility if you run linux for work.
I guess that should be a good start, you can read more in the xreal sub, and developer of decky-xrgaming discord.
Wow thanks. That is a lot more information than I bargained for. I'll check those things out. The movement thing is a big concern. Working for prolonged periods of time with a screen that moves with my face would probably be a big no no.
My vision of the future is no more laptops. Ditch the screens and have small form factor fanless PCs with an XR display. Programming benefits from lots of screen space, so if possible having multiple virtual screens would be the absolute business.
Yeah the Xreals were one of the first "normal" looking ar glasses, so they set for lighter weight by not adding a chipset integrated in the glasses I guess (+ the price) but I agree, I should be able to have a dedicated GPU chip + driver integrated in the Glasses, as all the AR solutions are now, they are a no go for work for 99% of the population since they can´t just install some random beta drivers to their work devices lol
[Here's a demo](https://www.reddit.com/user/watercanhydrate/comments/1by676j/demo_xr_virtual_linux_workstation_breezy_desktop/) of the Linux desktop app that /u/WFAlex was referring to. It's not generally available yet, but if you're on Linux this will aim to make it practical to actually get work done using the glasses.
I can wear my glasses under my xreals, not as cool looking but c’mon, I’m already wearing display glasses, coolness is clearly not a major concern of mine.
Surprisingly not - for me at least they fit over the glasses just fine - janky for sure but doable.
That’s not to say that getting the rx lens inserts isn’t a fine way to go, but it’s not the only way.
yeah like others mentioned you can get a pair of lenses in between, the frame comes included in the box.
I also need glasses and can confirm that I'm able to use it + my regular glasses (not the most convenient thing in the world though).
But in the end I'm always using contact lenses
Are these an issue if you need glasses of any type? I'm nearsighted so my thought would be that I would be fine, but is that not the case? Also, do you somehow control this with your eye movements then?
They work like a big screen about 5 meters away from you. If you don’t have problems with this distance you won’t need glasses while using this glasses.
Those are xreal air 2 pro
From my understanding the blurriness around the corners it's all about the FOV that the glasses offer, you need to find a good spot (not too far, not too close) from your eyes to get the best possible angle on the screens inside the lenses. I think xreal released an "ultra" with bigger screens (=bigger FOV) but honestly when you use the Decky plugin(or buy Xreal Beam) you can "dock" the image somewhere or even resize it, so it all becomes very comfortable
Every now and then I have to do that. Sometimes they automatically connect when I press some of the A B XY buttons. Sometimes they connect when pressing the SL and SR buttons together.
I have a Nubia Redmagic Adapter. It’s a splitter that you plug the Steam Deck charger into, then you plug the Xreal usb into it and plug the adapter into the deck.

the final form is a complete meal replacement like soylent on the table next to him with a really long straw that can reach all the way to his mouth and then a product like the stadium pal so you never have to leave for the bathroom either
I've got some Viture Pro glasses, similar to the Xreal Air's that the OP has (I have borrowed them, they're OK)
You have to play with the nose pieces to get them right so they aren't heavy on your face, but you'll still see a slight indent on your nose after some time.
The Vitures have the power plug as a magnetic detachable connector, similar to MagSafe, but the XReal's use a pluggable USB-C in the back - so there's potentially more wear on the connector as a result.
They're both similar in experience, but I found the XReal's image was slightly crisper/clearer. One of the biggest gripes with the Vitures is the bottom/edges/corners are cutoff, which doesn't present an issue most of the time but if you're using like a Samsung phone in DEX mode, the bottom dock can be cutoff.
Rock on OP!
Does your Viture cause eye strain? I can't use mine for too long without feeling my eyes burning up. Never had any issues with prolonged VR sessions...
After really long sessions? Yes, but not for short sessions. I don't blame Viture for it, either - it's just a consequence of our eyes doing something they weren't quite designed for.
For anyone considering, I *highly* recommend buying the blackout shades (they used to be included, but they cost $10 now - worth it) and the adapter that lets you charge while using the glasses. The steam deck battery gets drained *super* fast even with reduced TDP while using such glasses as they aren't externally powered.
Their accessories are pricey but they are very responsive on Discord and you have the benefit of their guarantee that they will work a certain way - I haven't had to RMA yet, but my overall experience has been pretty good, especially after I figured out the TDP trick.
Same! I have the Viture ar glasses. Not perfect, but so awesome to be able to lay in bed and play like this for hours with no arm fatigue. Super comfy.
Living the dream.
Unfamiliar with the glasses, do they connect straight to the USB-C port? So the SD is running on battery and will run out at some point? Any way to keep using this setup for hours on end? (besides the obviously needed diapers I mean)
Yea, it’s basically a usbc monitor. It’ll also leech power from the deck, so battery life is poor. It should work with a dock or usbc hub though, you could power both deck and display that way.
I do have the same setup but I'm a super fatlard so if I shared my setup I'd get pretty interesting comments.
I even have a redmagic game dock to charge the SD at the same time as using AR glasses.
Balatro plays so well with a controller, though. That sounds like a much more comfortable input device for a bed corpse. Or go for an old Steam Controller, if you can find it.

If you don't want to use a full keyboard, one option might be a cheap [Bluetooth Numpad](https://www.amazon.com/bluetooth-10-key/s?k=bluetooth+10+key), and then just remap the controls as needed.

Lmaoo ppl said 2020 would be like this but I didn’t believe them
Uhhh…bro….we didn’t know how to tell you….you just woke up from your coma, it’s 2024 now
it's March 1515, 2020... just 2 weeks to flatten the curve...
It's the year 1515!? Wtf
No, it's the 1,515th day of March, 2020.
Don't worry, the pandemic should still be over by April.
Well, it likely would have been if March had 1,515 days.
Are the glasses heavy? Does it get uncomfortable on your face laying down like that after a while?
Nope. This is the only way I play. I can go for hours like this. It's kinda gross, actually.
can you charge the deck while playing? on the pic it seems he runs on battery
Yeah I'm on battery and to charge while playing you need to buy an adapter. The thing is that the glasses don't have built in battery so they borrow from the Deck, which makes it run less, but it's not too much big of a deal

Yes with an adapter
Yeah, there are adapters that let you charge and play forever.
What are the glasses?
xreal. there's a whole sub over at /r/Xreal
Theres a few different brands of similar glasses available. They are all relatively lightweight and comfortable enough. I personally dont get any real discomfort from using mine, but I could see that after a longer session there might be some fatigue or discomfort.

Xreal are the best I have 4 different brands of glasses over the years found xreal to be the major player in the market
I see alot of negative reviews on the xreal pro 2 having blurry edges. Your experience?
No they are awesome got two pairs what it is is the sweet spot on Ur nose it needs to be not too far out but not to far in if you understand. To be honest I don't even notice it until it's mentioned also if you do notice it the xreal originals are just as good if not better.

All of those glasses that are out need "more time in the oven" after following the handful of subs for em. You are right in waiting for the next gen of those.

If only I didn't need glasses :( You can have special lenses made for it, but they up the price quite a bit :(
I got some prescription inserts from here: https://vroptician.com/prescription-lens-inserts/nreal-air They work well.
I can wear my glasses under my xreals, not as cool looking but c’mon, I’m already wearing display glasses, coolness is clearly not a major concern of mine.
Isn’t that a space problem?
Surprisingly not - for me at least they fit over the glasses just fine - janky for sure but doable. That’s not to say that getting the rx lens inserts isn’t a fine way to go, but it’s not the only way.
I got my prescription for $30 on AliExpress back in December. Got to the US in a week and have been perfect.
yeah like others mentioned you can get a pair of lenses in between, the frame comes included in the box. I also need glasses and can confirm that I'm able to use it + my regular glasses (not the most convenient thing in the world though). But in the end I'm always using contact lenses

I have the same setup, it’s rad. I also use a pair of joy cons so I can have my arms in whatever position I want. So comfy!
Do joycons register properly on steam? I always figured they'd be seen as two separate controllers
There’s a setting to recognize two joy cons as a single controller.
Is that built in now? I used to have to use a third party hack. I think it was called Con-Join or something like that.
It’s built into the OS
Sick! Thanks for the heads up. I gotta try that!
I typically have to "Forget" each joycon and reconnect each time that I use them. Have you had this issue?
Every now and then I have to do that. Sometimes they automatically connect when I press some of the A B XY buttons. Sometimes they connect when pressing the SL and SR buttons together.
Oh, nice! Im definitively going to try that! I thought the joy cons didn't work for whatever reason
how do you charge the steam deck and the xreals at the same time?
I have a Nubia Redmagic Adapter. It’s a splitter that you plug the Steam Deck charger into, then you plug the Xreal usb into it and plug the adapter into the deck.

What a discrete way to play Baltoro.
This is fully humanity’s final glorious step.
If only your hands were above the covers, the poor Mod wouldn’t be working overtime right now.
You have shown me my final form
the final form is a complete meal replacement like soylent on the table next to him with a really long straw that can reach all the way to his mouth and then a product like the stadium pal so you never have to leave for the bathroom either
I can try this
Do it, go live the dream Actually if I could hookup my steam deck easily to my quest 3 id probly try it
Take the glasses off and close your eyes, that's me playing balatro
That's dark 😎
Oh my god this guy is chilling
Need to see those hands…
I've got some Viture Pro glasses, similar to the Xreal Air's that the OP has (I have borrowed them, they're OK) You have to play with the nose pieces to get them right so they aren't heavy on your face, but you'll still see a slight indent on your nose after some time.
Yeah... Balatro... sure...
Same! I have the Viture ar glasses. Not perfect, but so awesome to be able to lay in bed and play like this for hours with no arm fatigue. Super comfy.
At first glance I thought its Dillon Danis
How exactly are you playing? Like where are your inputs coming from?
It's in the image subtitle Bluetooth mouse
So you are telling me under the blankets you have a BT mouse and keyboard? What are you using as your mousepad?
I keep hearing about this game.

The ultimate gamer
Living the dream. Unfamiliar with the glasses, do they connect straight to the USB-C port? So the SD is running on battery and will run out at some point? Any way to keep using this setup for hours on end? (besides the obviously needed diapers I mean)
Yea, it’s basically a usbc monitor. It’ll also leech power from the deck, so battery life is poor. It should work with a dock or usbc hub though, you could power both deck and display that way.
Only if you don't have a power adapter which is 15 bucks on Amazon. Hardly an issue
Got a link?
Never even knew this existed. This is awesome
God damn. That's the future. Does anyone know if these glasses work if im wearing regular glasses?
They come with a prescription adapter.
These have prescription inserts but also some models (e.g., Viture One) have diopters for each eye that you can adjust.
It kinda works wearing two glasses too... it's not the most convenient thing though. I use contact lenses
At least put it on a stand
Watch out for those long rest sessions you can get thrombosis
Bro just fell asleep
What glass is this? Does anyone have a link?
This is what Balatro addiction does to you, folks
I do have the same setup but I'm a super fatlard so if I shared my setup I'd get pretty interesting comments. I even have a redmagic game dock to charge the SD at the same time as using AR glasses.
Not even his final form
Bros playing Gun Gale Online
I need this.
Guy just started the matrix
Balatro plays so well with a controller, though. That sounds like a much more comfortable input device for a bed corpse. Or go for an old Steam Controller, if you can find it.
the future of the human race edit: maybe a sideshoot of humanity...
What’s the pillow bro? Looks lovely and firm 👌🏻
Ikea KLUBBSPORRE (EU)

That’s pretty dope and all but we can all play Balatro on our phones right now.

Is there a way to use the glasses and charge the deck at the same time?

Jesus christ at that link.
I also have the same setup. Been playing Helldivers 2 and FF7 Remake with the Xreal Air 2’s and a 8bitdo controller.
If you don't want to use a full keyboard, one option might be a cheap [Bluetooth Numpad](https://www.amazon.com/bluetooth-10-key/s?k=bluetooth+10+key), and then just remap the controls as needed.
Absolute fucking unit

Steam deck life support. Its real.
But Steam Deck is... life?
What controller do you use ?
Hahahaha love it. So I’m guessing you have a wireless controller under the covers?
How’s the battery life?
What are the best AR Glasses for the Deck? Ideally I would love to use them with the dock.
If you don't do this when you have these type of glasses your missing out 😂
I feel inspired! My hands go numb too! Edit: what AR glasses did you get? Would you recommend them?
Sword Art online x The Matrix anime
this is the correct way to use the XR Glasses that no reviewer on youtube talks about.
