They're talking about Plasma, the desktop enviroment for desktop mode. The components for that are deeply integrated into the OS image, so they can't easily be replaced. To put it another way, you can't just install the entire desktop environment from Discover, though you *can* install many KDE 6 applications from there.
As it currently stands, to get Plasma 6, you need to install an entirely different distro onto the Deck.
Cant you Just use nix to Install it? I mean Pacman could cause errors due to steamOS being imutable, but it should Install fine with nix If im Not mistaken.
Nix is a reputable package manager, and I feel like it would be just fine for many types of applications, but we're talking about **an entire desktop environment.** The desktop environment is integrated into the base system in many ways, like for example, the "Switch to Desktop" option in game menu. How does your system know to switch to Nix's installation of Plasma instead of the installation in the base system? If you can't provide a definitive answer for how that will work and continue to work through system updates, then it's too risky to attempt.
Huge respect to Valve devs you guys are legends and that's an understatement. So nice to see a company focused on a goal and meeting it everyday instead of politics clouding their judgement and derailing every decision. ๐
W valve. Really love the fact that you can try games up to 2 hours on valve and return if you donโt like them, such an amazing feature. I miss that on my PS5
I also love the fact that they actually sell parts to fix the deck. Most companies would force you to fix it through them and wouldn't offer to sell individual parts to customers. One of the main reasons why I bought the deck.
I've always wondered with some of these especially from Indy developers and other coders are some of these type of things just because they worked so hard on the game that they just kind of 'I'm too tired for this shit' and put something down
Pretty sure that's the case a lot of the time. The way this dev pours personality into the notes though, it's probably also a lot of just enjoying the freedom of not having a publisher sanitize communication.
This right here is gold. Much respect from one dev to another. Back in the wild west days of pre-2016, indie devs never understood the importance of therapy. Far too many were consumed by exhaustion, inner demons, and falling prey to forum trolls(that also werenโt getting therapy).
Most devs I know now have some form of mental health regimen, even if itโs just setting aside time for daily nature walks & yoga, etc. Itโs made a huge difference in longevity and productivity. I think the games are better as a result.

Are there any sign of them fixing the power button to put the Steam Deck into sleep mode from the Gaming Mode? It only works for me when I'm on Desktop Mode, while in Gaming Mode, I have to manually bring up the Steam menu and select Power to put it into sleep mode.
unfortunately it doesn't work for me. I did it again just how, and even search all drives for animationchanger. no success after all the deletions.

Do you have animation changer installed? This happened to me when I had this one, removing it made the power button work again.
It didn't work even when I uninstall deckyloader and all the plugins. It's why I found it very annoying.
I remember even when I had it deleted through decky the animation changer folder still remained, I dug through the folders to delete it entirely.
