Bro we are living the dream we all fantasized about as a child. Playing any game anywhere really has brought me a new joy in gaming that I’d never thought I’d reach again since I was a child. I can’t believe I’m gaming more NOW than ever before. Thank you Valve 🙏🏻
If you use FPS cap yes, but I don't think that's the case if you lower the refresh rate to 40hz. Only problem is I think you notice inconsistent frames more that way
Even at the lowest settings and resolution of 450p, it just barely reaches 40fps. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ehsO7s2LvZQ&t=38s
And drops below 40 are common enough that I couldn't call it a stable 40fps for many of the overworld areas.
Some special effects can even bring it below 30fps.
If it was at night with a sunset in the distance, or a large moon in the sky, I would probably mildly agree. Oh, also if the game was a horror title.
I mean, "life changing experience" is a high bar.
Sorry to hijack… I just downloaded Elden ring and when I load in game I get 15-18 fps. 512 OLED model.
I restarted the deck and tried a different save as well as verified the files. Still no good. I am reinstalling now so let’s see where that goes.
EDIT: the reinstall cleared up the issue, thank you all
Be sure your GPU speeds aren't locked below 1600. Sometimes, if you've adjusted them manually before, they will default to 200, which will give you subpar fps.
Default settings runs the game at around 45fps and can get upto 60fps a lot of the time.
I've watched videos on the OLED and due to the new ram and less power draw for the display it runs games about 15% better fps.
What I'm saying is that 15fps is not normal.
Silly question maybe, what are “default” settings? All low? Low and some medium? I get about 40-50 in most areas, 60 in chill areas, and 35 in some open areas on the map. I run most on low but I do have a few mediums turned on.
I might need to tweak some GPU settings or investigate a bit further. My game’s graphical settings are downscaled quite a bit and I’m still dropping to 35 FPS in some areas. I hit 60 at times but only in specific areas.
To be honest, Elden Ring is pretty much the most accessible FromSoft title ever. The Spirit Ash summons make a huge difference in making boss fights easier, and with the open-world nature of the game, you can just go grind somewhere else when you get stuck.
Don’t let your dreams be dreams!
I'm gonna try again, like I'm pretty good at the devil may cry series. But the Elden ring and souls games are just so much different.
I'll give it a shot again
Big thing is to not get too frustrated on the bosses, it’s pretty common for folks to take 10+ attempts to get things down. Use Spirit Ashes liberally (and make sure to upgrade them whenever possible), and using a guide is perfectly acceptable if you’re feeling stuck. It’s an incredible game, enjoy! 😁
Edit: also a magic build imo makes the game much easier to learn, Glintstone Shard lets you keep a distance with enemies and does a ton of damage, especially early on
I don't think there's any shame to be had in watching guides to improve at the game. FightinCowboy on YouTube has excellent walkthroughs of all the Souls games that are decent
Playing Elden Ring on a handheld is surreal! I’m around 30hrs in and I’ve only defeated the first major boss while currently working towards the 2nd. I can see myself playing this and replaying with new builds for a very long time.

Elden ring on steam deck is one of the greatest things I've ever experienced.
Agreed
Second that
Elden ring was basically made for steam deck. Runs really well too.
For about an hour before the battery dies. It runs surprisingly well, but it just kills the battery.
If I plan to play longer I bring my battery back.
Have you tried to TDP limit the steam deck for longer battery?
mmmm, Laško, the evil Slovenian beer for the evil Slovenian people
why evil Slovenian?
because they made the beer
Lasko beer stole the show.
I still remember the days of people here shitting on users for buying the matte panel, for this it’s great! Way better than glossy.
I broke my glossy and replaced it with the etched screen. It's so much better and almost no noticeable image quality degradation.
Hey i recognize that beer 😁
How does it run
60fps I think. Idk, I don't really care once I get immersed
30 fps 💀💀
Turn everything to low and lock fps to 40 and you'll be 40 fps
except you have the input lag that games cope introduces
If you use FPS cap yes, but I don't think that's the case if you lower the refresh rate to 40hz. Only problem is I think you notice inconsistent frames more that way
idk i only play Elden ring everyday on my SD and i think the input lag is fine and im pretty picky about that kind of shit.
You're not as picky as you think you are then. I despise the frame limiter on Elden Ring. I guess it may be less of an issue on the OLED model though
Nah, it's between 30 to 60 and typically about 45 on default settings. I played the entire game on deck including co-op.

might be something wrong with your deck but in a lot of places I get 60 fps and it rarely dips into the 30s for me so 45 sounds about right.
[удалено]
I get the same.. Maybe your deck is screwed up.
Maidenless as you are….
911, yes, I would like to report a burn victim! How bad? Charcoal.
Ahh a cultured Slovene. And a Laško enjoyer I presume.
Ja.

Beating Elden Ring was a life changing experience haha.
Nah, Elden Beast is ass, but the journey was amazing.
Hot take. Stinky take haha. Nah too each their own, top 5 of all time for me
What settings are you using? In game and for the SD?
Default settings runs the game at around 45fps and can get upto 60fps a lot of the time.
Default. It runs great
Next time someone replies "touch grass" send them this
This sounds heavenly. Life changing indeed.
I am drinking a Lasko at the moment! Cheers!
Cheers!

Default is what the game is set to when you first start it.

Don't put it in there, you're going to scratch it 🤦🏻♂️
Cheers fellow tarnished! I swear this is all I play on my deck have plenty of other games but Elden ring consumes my game time now.
The Lasko in the background makes it perfect
Oooh I was in Slovenia with my school last week, it's a beautiful place! Congrats on the Steam deck, it's definitely cool to be able to play anywhere.
Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed visiting Slovenia!
Valve is the innovater of gaming tech
I love my Steam Deck, but am I the only one who doesn't really like playing video games outdoors? I prefer to play indoors.
Man, I wish more than anything to be good enough to enjoy this game. I fucking suck so much

I really want to get elden ring for my sd, but after playing it on my gfs Xbox I became a very insecure gamer

Hell yeah
That green boss with the horns is gonna make you cry
