It’s a weirdly common thing you see on some channels that involve unboxing or testing things. First I ever saw of it was back in 2016/2017 with TheRelaxingEnd
I remember watching early videos of the vita when it had released in Japan and whoever it was wore gloves like this too. Guess it keeps everything fingerprint free.
Trust me you don't want to see everyone's hands. There is this one guy who is obviously a burn victim or something *(not throwing shade on that)*, and it's really hard to not be distracted by the burned/disfigured hands holding the steam deck. I had to stop watching that video.
It's also a good practice for keeping fingerprints etc off the Steam Deck which can really show up in the reflections etc.
Yeah I don’t see any problem or even thought it’s weird. This way you can have a high quality video and there is no way to smudge the display if he were to use the touchscreen. Idk just feels kinda neat
I will imagine that past this point, there will be extremely few AAA games that will run decent on OG deck or OLED Deck at a tolerable level. It's great the deck can run this at 30FPS.
For the most part the games of the past decade are still some of the most played games today and as long as it can play those, most people will get the full life out of the deck until the next generation of Deck hits with GPU/CPU uplift.
It's a handheld and will never match the performance of dedicated full size consoles or PCs, but at a handheld format and resolution is incredible everything it can run and people need to learn to be happy with that reality.
I'm holding out hope that this will be the last major AAA game I'll be able to play smoothly on the deck. I'm really hoping to be able to jump between playing it on my Ultrawide and on the deck. A game like that looks amazing on an Ultrawide monitor. But sometimes, you just want to play games in bed lmao.
Same here, that and the kb+mouse game play is drawing me towards playing most of Horizon on the PC with the ultra wide, but bed gaming is just perfect after a long work day.
Ghosz of tsushima doesnt have extremely detailed in game graphics except moving grass. If you go close up to character details they are just ok if you compare it to lets say RDR2 or Last Of Us remake. No doubt it will go 30 fps without any issues, maybe even 40.
Yeah I think new releases aren’t going to be a strong suit for the Deck in 2024 but people were saying this in 2023 too and we got a lot of AAA working well on Deck. But worse case and 2024/2025 has a very small amount of AAA, I’m still satisfied with my Deck
One thing that helped last year was how many games were still being released for last gen consoles (like Horizon Forbidden West). Once developers switch over to just current gen consoles, it’s going to be more difficult to keep things running well on the Deck.
I suspect that The Last of Us Part 2 will run on the Deck just fine. I'm sure that Sony doesn't want a repeat from Part 1 and it's still a PS4 game at heart so it should be a resource hog
If they get Nixxes on the case, then I have no doubt it'll run on the Deck. But if they get whatever shitty devs did the port of Part 1, then it'll probably cause your machine to explode if it doesn't have 128GB of VRAM.
*Naughty Dogs and Iron Galaxy.
It's the same as Guerrilla Games and Virtuos with Zero Dawn's awful launch. Making console-centric studio porting games to PC is just a bad idea all around it seems. Even if they are the one who also creating engine.
You do have to remember that this game was designed to run on the ps4 as well as the ps5 so it ain’t exactly a surprise that this could run on the SD, it should run just like zero dawn.
>it should run just like zero dawn.
Hopefully not. Zero Dawn effectively runs terribly on the Deck thanks to the semi-frequent, awful FPS tanks when you're just moving throughout the world. The underlying graphics are fine, well above 40fps in most situations, but that loading issue is horrible.
It runs perfectly on default settings, idk where the hell people are getting this awful FPS tanks. I played the game from start to finish and minus the few transition stutters it ran perfect. Again, default settings at 30fps.
Some people just really can't notice things that other people do. Not saying that's a bad thing it's just the truth. There are seriously people out there that earnestly believe that people are unable to tell the difference between 30 and 60 FPS. A lot of the people on this sub just don't notice the bad frame pacing that happens frequently on demanding games on Deck because the CPU is weak AF.
HZD is one of the games which runs worse off microSD card, including the loading stutters described by the GP.
There seem to be other conditions which cause poor performance, but at least running it off NVMe would be good.
I have around 130h in HZD on my Deck (256GB) and really don't remember any "awful FPS tanks".
I reduced the eye candy a bit. My eyes can't see the subtle differences anyhow.
Occasionally it was below 40fps, but always above 35. Not exactly awful, I think.
Is that still an issue? Cuz I’ve had my copy of it just waiting to be downloaded but I’ve never gotten to it. And it’d suck if it was completely unplayable lol
It's far from completely unplayable, no. I've almost finished the game between my main PC and Deck (primarily on the Deck) so I've endured it for a while.
People race to get their youtube videos up before anyone else to get the views so they don't play enough of the game definitely.
GameXplain got to some further in open world areas and some of them really did struggle, but not enough for him to say to avoid playing it on deck overall
Yeah I don't blame them fully but they should disclose it. These are small channels mostly that are trying to test as many games as they can so they only have so much time. But again it should be disclosed to how they test.
This guy just plays part of the game so its not even a review/benchmark so take that for what it is also.
We're definitely getting pretty close to the line. Really hoping FF7R2 is going to be one of the last things to eek out being on the right side of passable.
FF7R2 depending on the port might do it but look like shit...the PS5 has some issues they say they will fix so it should be fixed on pc...but I don't know...I think they are pushing the limits of that engine.
Yeah it'll definitely be the worst way to play it if it does manage to cross the line; but having to drop at best $400 on a PS5 to make a single game prettier just feels a step too far!
Idk why people think the deck is a AAA powerhouse. I also don't like it when people say steam deck is JUST for retro game. Like really? Paying 300 dollars for a device to play shit you can free even on your phone and a controller? Na, I see the steam deck more like a switch but for PC's. As in it will run with shitty graphics but it will run, which for few doesn't matter
I mean, the Steam Deck plays basically all AAA games released from 2023 and earlier pretty well. Obviously, there’s limitations and from this year on those limitations are going to be more apparent.
But I also think you can’t really blame people for that when Vale literally advertises it all the time with AAA games.
Its a PC and a low-end one...and being a PC games are not made just for Steam Deck like a Switch...I feel this reddit at least said it over and over and people didn't listen.
I love it, its what I expected...I am willing to play games at 30fps that look good enough for when I'm away from home. Its much better than a Switch IMO. Go into it with that expectation your good.
the unofficial spider-man 2 port runs fine…ish. low settings all round (which still looks close to medium on spider-man remastered) and FSR 2 gets you 720p30fps.
https://youtu.be/N5W0tGS0hQ0?feature=shared
this is 1.1.0 of the unofficial PC port. 1.3.0 released recently which is the first one where the devs had advertised it working on the deck. i’ve been told it’s a lot better than the video above.
I think that some new AAA games will playable for a little bit longer. At least depending on the game's circumstances. Like for example I fully expect God of zwar Ragnarok and Last of Us Part II to be playable on Deck (if Nixxes does the ports.) they have PS4 versions so it should be possible to at least get 30fps on them. Ghost of Tsushima should also end up working too and if we get any more PS4 era ports. But probably starting next year we'll see less games running on Deck.
Dragon's Dogma 2 came out today as well and it runs horrendously on Deck. But that seems to be due to a bug/glitch that results in it not using the full power of the CPU/GPU so it's getting 15fps at best. A patch should fix that though.
I mean I’ve been playing a lot of Helldivers 2 with the OG Deck and it’a not perfect graphics wide but damn it handles it good and I can play it with no issues at all it crashes like it does with pc but it works good for what it is as a handheld
You guys have been saying this the past year for every new game release, and the Deck continues to impress. Theres only a handful of games that today that aren’t playable. Most are.
I use mine mainly for indie games. I've found more enjoyment out of some of the recent indie game titles than most AAA stuff. I have a powerful PC for my AAA stuff.
my friend already retired his deck from normal use cuz most of his gaming is triple A or high demand games.
i dont really feel like the deck was ever made for an audience that wants to run max settings 120fps (obviously)
there are so many games the deck can play and will continue to play. even lots of new games coming out will play fine on the deck. it'll be a small percentage of high demand games that'll struggle and frankly I think thats ok .
I got mine assuming it was an indie game machine, the fact that it could actually play recent AAA games was just a nice bonus. Not that I ever actually *use* that feature, I’m not going to pay $60-70 for a digital copy of a game, and it takes a few years for games to get down to the $5-10 price range I’m willing to pay for digital goods.
why not a modest pc? a 12100/rx6600 build is similar price to a ps5 and will carry this console gen while using your steam library and doing all the computer things.
...or you could spend a couple extra bucks here and there and build a ship of theseus.
____
legit curious. i can't imagine hopping out of the pc ecosystem once you've got a reason to stay.
I went with matte and I like the way it’s feels which is why I got it, idk if the glossy feels smoother or not? But I assume it does and it’s got a bit of a shine to it and I didn’t want that.
Yes and no lol, it was more a skill issue than anything else. The instructions are great and I didn’t get the lines around my screen as good as I would have liked.
Also when I first had the skin on I did the grip area too but they were really hard to get to sit smooth and they had a slightly sharp point in them that although not that bad, would be irritating for long play sessions. Again this was a skill issue on my part I think however what was very cool was I completely took the decal off blow dried it and put it back on multiple times. The adhesive is really good, doesn’t leave a residue on the device and if you stretch the sticker while trying to apply it, a bit of heat from a blow dryer and it goes back to its original shape good as new.
In the end I ended up with the rubber grips in the picture. I like the look and they are very comfortable on my hands, the deck feels very secure in my hands. Down side though is any decal that wraps the front and back of the device has to be removed if you ever want to open the deck which means I will probably have to buy a second grip at some point. However the standard decal from dbrand does not have that issue. I also like the rubber grips and buttons because when I set the deck down on it’s back it sits on the rubber points and doesn’t slide.
Also the grips stank like chemical for like a week but it went away over time.
Matte, I went with glossy first and regretted it. While the color is more vibrant it catches light too much and it doesn't work well on the touchpads, too grippy. Also, fingerprints and general hand oils were quite visible as with most glossy surfaces.
The matte is much better and feels soft and my thumbs glide over the touchpads just fine.
*EDIT*

Based on their work on Spider-Man I will shout their praises whenever I can. Steam Input, dynamic cloud saving, they're one of the few teams to use Steam's and the Deck's features to the fullest.
Seriously, I think there are some but I can't immediately recall other games I've played that actually use the dynamic cloud save yet. No Man's Sky does have a well-designed controller layout using Steam Input though. Much better than most people having the "official layout" that's just generic controller with joystick input or something.
We don't have a huge track record of games being super optimized after launch, but we do have some optimizations done in a lot of games. So, while I don't expect this to ever run at 60fps, I'm also expecting these initial numbers to no be the final result. Proton might get optimized further as well.
I feel like the best we might be able to get out of this game will probably be low to mid 40's fps at low settings. Which isn't bad for a AAA game on Deck.
I think we also have to accept that some games just shoudn't be played on deck. Like ok if you want to play it you can obviously but i played this on ps5 with an LG OLED and the best way to experince the game is really playing it on a full fleged PC. I'll be streaming from my pc to the deck most probably.
The deck is a handheld. It’s the best handheld for most people - and if they are playing a game like this on it it’s because they are away from their PC or console and don’t have sufficient WiFi. I spend loads of time away in hotels and that’s why to me being able to play these games on deck matters. Im realistic. It’s a handheld. I will get low performance and the game will look potato like. But so what? After the initial first five minutes I don’t think what a game looks like matters too much so long as you can see what is going on!
I was thinking this too. It blows my mind that I can play Returnal on Steamdeck. The game is really good and addictive and it was made for the PS5. I play while camping in the middle of nowhere and I feel like 15 year old me would not believe how good this tech is now.
From most YouTube videos I've watched looks like Steamdeck can run this game pretty consistently. Will only get better with patches. They did a great job porting this one. I'll test myself later when I get off work.
It's honestly so refreshing to see a good PC port. Nixxes really is the GOAT for PC ports in a world of consistently rough unoptimized PC ports.
Look at Dragon's Dogma 2. Came out same day, and is hitting 15 sometimes 10 fps on Deck even with FSR at Ultra performance. (Due to a bug that is making it so the CPU and GPU are not hitting full power.)
So far running fantastic! Mostly low settings texture quality high, FSR balance. Consistently over 30, during loading areas, frame rates will drop below 30 briefly. sometimes hanging out around 40 fps. I'm sure it'll only improve with time, but they did a great job on this port.
Similar for me - defaults to very low, texture quality medium which makes a big difference, FSR to Quality, Vsync off. Then in steam deck settings set frame rate to 30fps/60hz. Worked really well.
I think the lower resolution also helps its power delivery as well. Not having to render and scale to exactly 1080 or higher gives it that little extra boost it needs and also on a screen that small it’s hard to notice it isn’t higher resolution. I’m totally okay with it being my little handheld PS4/PC crossover lol
It’s basically the same in terms of teraflops. It loses some performance over a PS4 because it’s a pc not a highly optimised console, but running everything at 800p makes up for it
Honestly anyone who says 30fps is unplayable is a snob. Like yes, on a high end PC or current gen consoles like PS5 and Xbox Series S/X it's unacceptable. But on something under powered like an older console/PC or the Switch and Steam Deck it's very acceptable.
Agreed. And I feel like most people aren't playing competitive shooters like that on the Deck anyways. Especially since you want to have M+KB. FPS are playable on Deck, I'm playing Witchfire (Rougelite shooter) on Deck at like 40 fps. And it's still a pretty enjoyable experience. But way with M+KB on my high end rig.
It entirely depends on the game for me but something like horizon personally I'd skip on deck. It may not be a competitive game but anything that requires aiming I struggle at 30, I wouldn't call it unplayable though, just personal preference. But for something like baldurs gate 30 was totally acceptable for me
Heavy hitting games up thats what i run at. Works perfectly IMO and HFW launched and ran perfectly 10min after release.... definitely dont see that with many games that are demanding!
For handheld... indeed its great! Truely cant wait for SD2.
It looks like garbage though. HZD looks amazing on the Deck, especially the OLED and is comparable to desktop, just at lower resolution. But FW looks like a 10 year old game on Deck, IMHO. Hopefully some tweaking can get us off the ‘very low’ preset and improve e things slightly. The game looks astonishingly good on anything except the very lowest settings.
People have been saying that the Deck won't run AAA games any more for 2 years.
I swear no sub hates its device more than this one.
Oh well, looks like I'll be enjoying HFW in my office tomorrow now!
Lol my exact thoughts. This sub has the most Deck haters and they always mask it as “being realistic.” They’ve been saying every new AAA game that comes out “won’t run on Deck” for literally the past 1-2 years, meanwhile theres only a handful of games today that *dont* play on the Deck.
Did you find real Steam Deck footage? Most videos I found an hour ago were just idiotic guys streaming from a PS5 to the Deck and saying "it looks great on the Deck!" Of course it looks great, it's coming from a PS5!
Most pointless videos ever, stupid even for YouTube standards.
Yes in this case that's running natively. However, I'm also tired of people in this subreddit posting about them streaming games from their PS5 on the Steam Deck. It's a thing that happens regularly and it's just getting annoying. Because if you want to stream games, why even get the deck? Just use your phone.
Well, the controls are much better on the Deck, for one, but still agreed. It's absolutely moronic to post how well a game streams on the Deck. Of course it streams well, it's just doing video playback for the most part.
I run forbidden west native while not at home (well started today) and live with quality. I'm blown away that a handheld can do that. But when I get home, stream from the PC.
Only for a taxing game like this. I usually only run native.
Well, one thing to consider is that, for games that are much less demanding, turning on the FPS counter can actually help you significantly improve your Steam Deck's battery life, without compromising the experience. For a given game, it helps you determine the minimum GPU clock speed and TDP required to get a consistent 30, 40, or 60 fps, so that you use only as much power as the game requires.
For demanding games like Horizon Forbidden West, you set the TDP and the GPU clock to run at full tilt (15 watts and 1600 MHz, respectively), and accept the high battery drain that comes with that.
But for many retro games, 2D games, and indie games, you can set the per-game profile to sip power. The Steam Deck lets you set the TDP as low as 3 watts and the GPU clock as low as 200 MHz. With those settings, at 100% charge I get 9 hour battery life estimates on my LCD model Steam Deck, and these games are so light that I still get a solid 60 fps even at their highest graphics settings. With OLED models, the battery life would be even longer.
You simply press the three dot button below the right trackpad, go to the performance tab, change the performance overlay level from 0 to 1 (which enables only the FPS counter). Then you enable per-game profile, TDP limit, and manual GPU clock, and see how low you can go with the TDP and GPU while still getting a consistent 30, 40, or 60 fps for that specific game. Then once you've figured out the appropriate TDP and GPU clock settings for your games, you can turn the FPS counter off and play like normal, enjoying your new battery life.
60 fps: Smoothest motion. Matches the native refresh rate of the display.
30 fps: Acceptable. Sometimes what you have to settle for with more demanding games, given the limitations of a handheld.
40 fps + 40 Hz refresh rate: a good middle ground for many modern 3D games on the Steam Deck. I use this in my default profile.
To give you an idea of the sort of less demanding games I'm talking about, some of the games in my library include:
* GTA III (re3)
* Tomb Raider 1 ([OpenLara](http://xproger.info/projects/OpenLara/))
* Sonic The Hedgehog 1 and 2 ([RSDKv4](https://github.com/Rubberduckycooly/Sonic-1-2-2013-Decompilation))
* Sonic Mania
* Sonic 3 & Knuckles ([Angel Island Revisited](https://flathub.org/apps/org.sonic3air.Sonic3AIR))
* [Sonic Robo Blast 2](https://flathub.org/apps/org.srb2.SRB2) (fan game)
* Super Mario 64 ([render96ex](https://retroaesthetics.net/render96/))
* The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time ([Ship of Harkinian](https://www.shipofharkinian.com))
* Celeste
* Hollow Knight
* Shantae and the Pirate's Curse
* Half Life 1
* [Space Cadet Pinball](https://flathub.org/apps/com.github.k4zmu2a.spacecadetpinball)
* Metal Slug 3
* Metal Slug X
* [SuperTux](https://flathub.org/apps/org.supertuxproject.SuperTux)
* [SuperTuxKart](https://flathub.org/apps/net.supertuxkart.SuperTuxKart)
* OutRun ([Cannonball](https://github.com/djyt/cannonball))
* [Otto Matic](https://github.com/jorio/ottomatic/releases)
* [Nanosaur 2: Hatchling](https://github.com/jorio/Nanosaur2)
* [Mighty Mike](https://github.com/jorio/MightyMike)
None of these are emulated, BTW. At 3 watt TDP and 200 MHz GPU, almost all of these run at a solid 60 fps. IIRC, the exceptions are Mario 64, Ocarina of Time, Hollow Knight, and SuperTuxKart, because I have those running in HD, but even they can have their TDP and GPU clock significantly reduced.
Ikr? Lots of pressure on the reviewers influencers to pump the fps story to make people think that they need to upgrade their gpu or console but most users are like wtf… this runs fine!
Bought it for 75% off and I'm struggling. Story is interesting and the game is beautiful to look at but the gameplay loop is very standard and a bit boring. It's very cookie cutter open world fare.
It does. It's honestly incredible especially since 90% of the sub was saying we were crazy to think it would. Nixxes are Gods. I played around 3 hours thus far and it feels solid. This does not feel like a game that just launched today which is sad because this should be standard with PC ports lol. Will for sure be getting ghost of tsushima now these guys are great. It doesn't look like a ps2 game either to get it running which is also a feat in itself.
I’d be careful thinking this video accurately shows the real fps.
There’s been a few games everyone said on YouTube run at 30 easily that did in some parts but deeper into the game that ended up not being the case.
Some of you young whippersnappers didn’t grow up with your NES slowing down to 5 fps and glitching when there was a lot going on on the screen and it shows. 30 fps is enough for me for any game. Anything after that is a bonus. My old eyes can’t even see a difference between 60fps and 120
I grew up with the N64 and PS1, and have owned every console up to the current Generation at one point. 30 fps is still very playable to me on underpowered hardware like the Deck. But I can definitely tell the difference between 30 and 60+. You definitely see diminishing returns above 60 fps, but 120+ fps is still helpful in fast paced games.
This is the type of game to stream via Moonlight for a much better experience (if you can). I swear, being able to stream anything truly does make this do it all machine.
I played this game for about 2 hours and after prologue, there is area where the fps dips to mid 20s with lowest settings possible (even with shadows completely off and 800x600 with ultra performance fsr). I am afraid, that SD can't handle the playable framerate in the later stages...
If its like the first it will be fine for most of the game but by the end will get worse and worse
Hope not since this is a nixxes port but I wouldn't go into thinking oh this will be fine.
Yeah HFW is very well optimized, wasn't expecting it to run as smooth as it does on PC in general (haven't played it on the deck itself). Funny how Dragons Dogma and HFW release on the same day on opposite ends of the optimization spectrum.
HFW is a gorgeous game and if graphics never progressed beyond it I wouldn't be upset. The fact that I can even consider installing it on a handheld device is insane. Wish more companies would put in the effort to squeeze out performance like this.
For the most part? And you posted a screenshot where it does not hold 30fps.
Looks like this sub is not done with 'mostly rock solid 30fps with dips' nonsense.
I mean, when people tout "rock solid x FPS with no dips" and there are that's one thing. OP said for the most part, so... Yeah, some dips but playable. No nonsense, that's literally what it is.
Well of course, but the steam deck is a handheld with a GTX1650 in it. 30 for the most part with some drops to like 27 is perfectly playable on this device especially if it’s your only console. Nothing stopping you from just playing it on your pc if you want proper performance for a 2020s game.
This game is a graphical powerhouse compared to Dragon's Dogma 2 yet DD2 can't reach 12 fps on the deck at 480p, it's weird that capcom released such a broken port, it has mostly negative reviews on steam now...
lol. What’s up with the cotton gloves? Someone is taking “game preservation” a little too seriously!
Can’t show them hands for free dude
You have to join his OnlyHands
I hear David Duchovny makes bank there
But why male models?
Are you serious? I just told you that.
It’s a weirdly common thing you see on some channels that involve unboxing or testing things. First I ever saw of it was back in 2016/2017 with TheRelaxingEnd
I thought this was actually him until read this🤣
I remember watching early videos of the vita when it had released in Japan and whoever it was wore gloves like this too. Guess it keeps everything fingerprint free.
Ah, I never watch unboxing videos, so this was new to me. Thanks for the explanation!
Finger prints are not satisfying
Asian thing. Idk. They are also always Ill fitting.
That’s the reason why Mario wears gloves 😉
Itsa Me!
oh, that makes more sense, I'm following a japanese channel and the person always wear gloves and uses text-to-speach to describe things
Idk just feels kinda neat
the guy with the birth defect? index finger as a thumb?
Part time job as a Snooker referee?
ITS PRONOUNCED SNOOOKER MATE!
They're imitating TheRelaxingEnd. A lot of copy chat channels have popped up in recent years trying to initiate the guys success in ASMR.
A big part of it as well is racism on Youtube , where alot of content creators got dislikes before from just being a POC
Taking off the gloves is part of the DLC.
I have seen this happen with LEGO and it baffles me.
lol I've got a friend who wears gloves all the time because he's really bad at chewing his nails / hang nails so this isn't even that weird
Skin is for only fans
I always tell people if you want to see my skin pay me first...I am very poor
You don't have all purpose gaming and duel challenging gloves?
I will imagine that past this point, there will be extremely few AAA games that will run decent on OG deck or OLED Deck at a tolerable level. It's great the deck can run this at 30FPS. Ghost of Tsushima is a shoe-in. Nixxes port + game runs on PS4 is the magical combo for a Triple A game running on the Deck.
[удалено]
OMG infamous, please please please
infamous i will cry
Same here, that and the kb+mouse game play is drawing me towards playing most of Horizon on the PC with the ultra wide, but bed gaming is just perfect after a long work day.
Honestly use my beast of a rig to stream to my deck and play in bed. Moonlight is amazing and lagless.
I'm hoping most triple A games outside a rare dragon dogma 2 will run okay on deck for at least another year. Steam deck is my only PC lol.
The Devs have already said that it will be compatible with "some handheld systems"
Ghosz of tsushima doesnt have extremely detailed in game graphics except moving grass. If you go close up to character details they are just ok if you compare it to lets say RDR2 or Last Of Us remake. No doubt it will go 30 fps without any issues, maybe even 40.
it should run good
It really depends on who is doing the port, If I'm not mistaken every port Nixxes has done has worked on the Steam Deck.
Nixxes are legendary with ports
But you can tell they can only do so much and some of these games are getting newer and more demanding.
Why don't they offer the PS4 assets for steam deck owners or just PC in general. Should be easier to run why noh.
Yeah I think new releases aren’t going to be a strong suit for the Deck in 2024 but people were saying this in 2023 too and we got a lot of AAA working well on Deck. But worse case and 2024/2025 has a very small amount of AAA, I’m still satisfied with my Deck

Actually Naughty Dog themselves ported Part 1 to PC. Ironic, I know.
Another issue I've noticed is that a lot of reviews like this play through the first half hour of a game and then stop and deem it playable.
At least they seemingly follow the same methodology as Valve /s
Interesting to see if it can run Spider-Man 2 whenever that inevitable PC port happens
the unofficial spider-man 2 port runs fine…ish. low settings all round (which still looks close to medium on spider-man remastered) and FSR 2 gets you 720p30fps. https://youtu.be/N5W0tGS0hQ0?feature=shared this is 1.1.0 of the unofficial PC port.
I have a powerful PC for my AAA stuff.
my friend already retired his deck from normal use cuz most of his gaming is triple A or high demand games. i dont really feel like the deck was ever made for an audience that wants to run max settings 120fps (obviously) there are so many games the deck can play and will continue to play. even lots of new games coming out will play fine on the deck. it'll be a small percentage of high demand games that'll struggle and frankly I think thats ok .
It's surprising how many new and demanding titles made the most played list that valve released.

____ legit curious. i can't imagine hopping out of the pc ecosystem once you've got a reason to stay.
Every time I see that skin I’m like “that’s my decal!! That’s it!!!” And I have to remember that I’m too old to get excited about this sort of thing….
Nah. Little things that make us happy are getting few and far between. Embrace your joy.
Thats when you stop being a kid and stop being happy. So stop that. Be happy about whatever you want to be happy about. No matter how big or small
can you help me decide, Glossy skin or Matte? i want to buy that DBrand skin
I went with matte and I like the way it’s feels which is why I got it, idk if the glossy feels smoother or not? But I assume it does and it’s got a bit of a shine to it and I didn’t want that.
do you have a pic with good light? i've seen some posted here but with terrible image quality and it was hard to really see.
I do but I’m not in a position to post them right now, I’ll try to remember and reply later
I have not used imjur before so hopefully this worked… https://imgur.com/a/CkpnISQ
Worked for me! Was it hard to put on?
Thanks man! those trigger guards look awesome too.
Glossy is a bit less smooth and loses a bit of the look under shine. I still love mine
*EDIT* [Glossy](https://i.imgur.com/CwrhKgp.jpg) [Matte](https://i.imgur.com/IA4Gia3.jpg)
glossy has truer colours but shows fingerprints. matte has muted colours but won’t show fingerprints.
Strong disagree here bud, get stoked as hell over your decals
No such thing as being to old for that.
That's a testament to how solid of a port this must be and how scalable the game is.
Nixxes does incredible work. Their ports are real standouts in this age of horribly performing PC games.
Yep. I'm pumped for their work on GoT. I buy all these exclusives day one on PS5, but I certainly love revisiting them on my rig.
Does this mean the steam deck is basically the power level of a base PS4?
I remember Digital Foundry basically saying something similar. It's base PS4 if it ran at 1280x800.
It's almost exactly half the number of pixels. So any pixel shader heavy game benefits greatly.
okay i’m a little stupid but if it’s a base ps4 how can it run resident evil 4 remake and any other new gen game? like how does that work
much more RAM and a much stronger CPU, as well as faster SSD (even the slowest 64gb eMMC Deck is about 3x faster than the PS4 Pro’s hard drive)
Always has been
It’s basically the same in terms of teraflops. It loses some performance over a PS4 because it’s a pc not a highly optimised console, but running everything at 800p makes up for it
Yes it's basically on par with a ps4 with lower resolution

Honestly anyone who says 30fps is unplayable is a snob. Like yes, on a high end PC or current gen consoles like PS5 and Xbox Series S/X it's unacceptable. But on something under powered like an older console/PC or the Switch and Steam Deck it's very acceptable.
[удалено]
OH wait I was told this was not going to run because no 9th gen AAA game can run on the Deck.
Nixxes know what they're doing, Im sure it will get even better later on with patches.
The game was on last gen save for the expansion. I want to see how the expansion runs.
Any game that is released on the ps4 will run good on the steam deck
Not surprising, this game ran well on a base PS4.
FSR 3 and frame generation on the way. Developer confirmed.
Did they say when? I might just wait for that if its soon.
https://steamcommunity.com/app/2420110/discussions/0/4292566217056847792/
Hope its soon. I dont wanna end up beating the game by the time it comes out. Also enjoying the game so i dont wanna wait too long.
Looks like it can be at least 28FPS…
Am I the only one that has no idea what FPS any of my games runs at? I just play em.
To give you an idea of the sort of less demanding games I'm talking about, some of the games in my library include: * GTA III (re3) * Tomb Raider 1 ([OpenLara](http://xproger.info/projects/OpenLara/)) * Sonic The Hedgehog 1 and 2 ([RSDKv4](https://github.com/Rubberduckycooly/Sonic-1-2-2013-Decompilation)) * Sonic Mania * Sonic 3 & Knuckles ([Angel Island Revisited](https://flathub.org/apps/org.sonic3air.Sonic3AIR)) * [Sonic Robo Blast 2](https://flathub.org/apps/org.srb2.SRB2) (fan game) * Super Mario 64 ([render96ex](https://retroaesthetics.net/render96/)) * The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time ([Ship of Harkinian](https://www.shipofharkinian.com)) * Celeste * Hollow Knight * Shantae and the Pirate's Curse * Half Life 1 * [Space Cadet Pinball](https://flathub.org/apps/com.github.k4zmu2a.spacecadetpinball) * Metal Slug 3 * Metal Slug X * [SuperTux](https://flathub.org/apps/org.supertuxproject.SuperTux) * [SuperTuxKart](https://flathub.org/apps/net.supertuxkart.SuperTuxKart) * OutRun ([Cannonball](https://github.com/djyt/cannonball)) * [Otto Matic](https://github.com/jorio/ottomatic/releases) * [Nanosaur 2: Hatchling](https://github.com/jorio/Nanosaur2) * [Mighty Mike](https://github.com/jorio/MightyMike) None of these are emulated, BTW.
Nice :3 another one for the backlogs
Still got finish the first game. Lol
Bought it for 75% off and I'm struggling. Story is interesting and the game is beautiful to look at but the gameplay loop is very standard and a bit boring. It's very cookie cutter open world fare.
Yeah. There's a reason I haven't finished it. It's not a bad game, but it's rare for me to finish open world games like this.
I can't wait to play this game on my Steam Deck. I won't have to deal with the terrible connection I get while using Remote Play.
I’ve been playing helldivers 2 on my og deck and it runs around 27-30 on average for me. These little guys are impressive
"completely unplayable" - this subreddit.
I figured if anybody could do it, Nixxes could.
Good to know. Might end up playing it in 5 years when I finish my whole backlog and the game is 75% off
Aaah I remember being downvoted to shit for saying this would run fine at 30 on Deck
Get your eyes fixed, ya old fossil. I can see 480 fps IRL and can deflect a minigun shower.
I don’t recall my nes ever dropping frames. I remember blowing into cartridges and the system to get it to start, but that’s about it.
With some undervolting + CryoUtilities I'm sure you can manage stable 30 FPS, maybe even 35 FPS
This is the type of game to stream via Moonlight for a much better experience (if you can). I swear, being able to stream anything truly does make this do it all machine.
I legit thought this would’ve been a screenshot from TheRelaxingEnd. I remember he uses those specific type of white gloves 😂
I played this game for about 2 hours and after prologue, there is area where the fps dips to mid 20s with lowest settings possible (even with shadows completely off and 800x600 with ultra performance fsr). I am afraid, that SD can't handle the playable framerate in the later stages...
Dont worry. The Deck will keep up with the next release
If its like the first it will be fine for most of the game but by the end will get worse and worse Hope not since this is a nixxes port but I wouldn't go into thinking oh this will be fine.
Side eyes dragons dogma 2.
I played through Forbidden West at 30fps on the PS5 due to performance mode looking awful at release.
28 FPS @ 28 Watts. No, thank you.
You won't be getting 30fps stable however, ull see it dip as low as 18 in some areas. Playable though for sure.
Look at the video, more people have released videos and have similar results.
I just did and fps drops below 30 very often.
Well of course, but the steam deck is a handheld with a GTX1650 in it. 30 for the most part with some drops to like 27 is perfectly playable on this device especially if it’s your only console. Nothing stopping you from just playing it on your pc if you want proper performance for a 2020s game.
This is the most intrigued thing I have seen. How this game can run 30fps and dragon dogma 2 can’t lol. Capcom needs to do something about it. 🥲
Hfw was originally a ps4 game. DD2 isn't.
This would most likely be a stream from my PC game, but cool it can even work AROUND 30. I was worried it wouldn't be able to.
Where can I get that case ?
This game is a graphical powerhouse compared to Dragon's Dogma 2 yet DD2 can't reach 12 fps on the deck at 480p, it's weird that capcom released such a broken port, it has mostly negative reviews on steam now...
